‘Honor Killing’: Father Goes on Trial for Killing Daughter Who Was ‘Too Westernized’

The trial for a Phoenix man who‘s also an Iraqi immigrant begins this month after he’s been charged with killing his daughter because she’d become “too westernized.”

Faleh Hassan Almaleki, 50, faces life in prison if convicted of running down his 20-year-old daughter Noor Almaleki with his Jeep. The incident left Noor in a coma for weeks after emergency back surgery. When she eventually died in November 2009, the case was considered an “honor killing.”

KSAZ reports:

Faleh Almaleki moved his family from Iraq to the Phoenix suburb of Glendale in the mid-1990s. He and Noor Almaleki had a tumultuous relationship, according to police and court records, and her close friends.

At 17, she refused to enter into an arranged marriage in Iraq, enraging her father, according to a court document filed by prosecutors.

At 19, Noor Almaleki moved into her own apartment and began working at a fast food restaurant but quit and left her new place when her parents kept showing up at her work, insisting that she return home, the document said.

Later in 2009, she moved into the home of her boyfriend and his parents, Reikan and Amal Khalaf, shortly after she showed up at their house and said her parents had hit her. Faleh Almaleki regularly harassed his daughter and the Khalafs, once telling Reikan Khalaf that if his daughter didn’t move out of their home, “something bad was going to happen,” the document said.

And then on Oct. 20, 2009, Noor Almaleki spotted her father when she and Amal Khalaf visited a Department of Economic Security office in Peoria. She sent text messages to a friend saying “Dude, my dad is here at the welfare office,“ ”I’m so shaky,“ ”I knew I shouldn’t have woke up,” and later: “I’ve honestly never met anyone with so much evil.”

After hitting his daughter with his car, he sped off and left the country. He was later found and arrested.

“The investigation into these crimes revealed that the defendant was very angry with Noor for not living by traditional Iraqi values as she had, in his eyes, become too ‘westernized’ and brought dishonor on her family,” prosecutors wrote in a court document.

Faleh is being charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault and leaving the scene of a serious injury accident.

    Only the PC‘s say it’s a religion of peace. This is just another example that it is largely not a peaceful religion. The larger question is this….. does anyone really believe that most Muslims, not all, but most, can assimilate in any country but one ran by Muslim theology/Sharia law? Look where they’ve immigrated; England, France, etc-etc-etc. They follow Islamic dictates in all cases. We have to provide them with prayer areas at work, etc. Their religion even interferes with work, for crying out loud. They have to assimilate to the practices of the countries tha tthey move to. The Irish, Italians, Germans, Poles, etc, all came to America to become Americans. They can still celebrate their cultural traditions in their homes or neighborhoods. Not the Muslims, though. Some are ok, of course, but unless this country makes it clear that things like prayer rooms at work will not be tolerated, we will have the same problems that other countries are now experiencing. You must conform to our laws and traditions. If we allow every immigrant to have special exemptions, we will be a fragmented society, with squabbling ethnicities all vying for ethnic-based laws/exceptions. If you don’t believe me, just look at the southwest and what’s going on.

    Where are the muslim leaders who preach this nonsense? I suspect they live in the 11th century. If they want to live here they are accountable to our laws. We all must wait for the muslim community to grow up and reexamine their own guiding principles meanwhile fathers are murdering their daughters. Don’t they see something is wrong with a (G)god who demands such homage. It defies logic even when applied to the metaphysical.

    What I just don’t get is: if these eastern people don’t like western culture, WHY DO THEY COME IN THE FIRST PLACE?
    He had options – of all the places on the planet he had to come, he had to pick HERE?

Honor killings would stop if a few of these Islamic ass clowns who committed such crimes were executed, especially if Old Sparky was being used.       The name, “Honor Killing” implies that there was justificiation for the action. Why not just use the real name, murder or maybe “Daughter Slaughter”. “Daughter Slaughter” could be a plot for the first “Muslim Bill Crosby Show” that Katie Couric wants.       Its only a hate crime if it is someone other than a Mooslem attacks a Mooslem and/or their religion.       I agree with you that using the term “Honor Killing” is not correct. While the correct term for this action is “filicide”- parent murders child – the Muslim culture practices “siblicide”, which is a phrase coined by behavioural ecologist Doug Mock, since the entire family can participate in “removing” an individual who is deemed “unworthy” or “brings shame”.

      For those who point to the Old Testament and its Levitical laws calling for the death penalty for disobedient children here are the facts: Jewish historians have never found any evidence that any Jewish child was executed for disobedience. The law is severe to make a point and not a prescription for the death penalty.

      Islam is a counterfeit religion and this is proof.

      This guy will somehow get off of it for being a muslum and having his religion ‘endangered by the brutal hate filled American courts.’ Do not be suprised if Obama simply pardons him, or the Federal Attorney Generals office orders the case to be dropped immediately without giving any reasons.

      Also, the media can be expected to spin this in such a way as to blame the girl and her boyfriend for instigating the whole matter in the first place.

      This guy, if convicted, needs to be put in a cell, and the door welded shut.

      Only the beginning! They are less than 4% of the population yet we see several of these honor incidents every year. Countries with a higher % of them is experiencing even more than us. It will grow as their segment of the population grows. That is the reason they want Shariah law recognized because acts such as this are acceptable under Shariah. In any Moos lim country there would ba a secular tribunal and his action would be called justifiable and he would walk free. Is this what you people want in this country? Must be if you allow places like Dearborn,mi to be taken over by them and used as a starting point to force Islam on the people of this country. They are in no hurrry it has taken them 5 centuries to gain a foot hold in Europe and 2 centuries in this country. They will only expand like any accepted and endorsed cult.
