‘Honor Killing’: Pakistani Woman Electrocuted for Refusing Arranged Marriage

Relatives of a 21-year-old Pakistani woman are under arrest for allegedly electrocuting her because she secretly married a man they didn’t approve of, police told CNN.
Police arrested Saima Bibi’s father and three other relatives after being tipped off by an anonymous caller, said police official Muhammad Ismail.
Bibi – an ethnic Baluch – defied demands from her family to marry a Baluch relative and instead ran away about one month ago to the southern portcity of Karachi to marry a fellow villager, police official Rao Zahoor said.
Her father and several other relatives traveled to Karachi and duped her into coming back home. When she didn’t listen to further demands they electrocuted her, he said. [...]
Human rights groups say so-called honor killings – the murder of women accused of infidelity and dishonorable behavior – are a growing problem inparts of Pakistan.

Posted on February 10, 2011 at 3:24pmThis is first and foremost a PAKISTANI problem. A high percentage of the ones you read about either happen there, or are done by people from there.
This is a problem needing a solution through aggressive prosecution by the government, which will only happen if and when they decide there is a difference between good and evil, and that this is on the wrong side of that line.
By way of comparison, it used to be more or less legal to kill your wife in Brazil if you caught her cheating on you, provided you did it within 48 hours.
To this day women in large swathes of Africa have surgeries forced on them as children which have as their goal the eradication of the possibility of girls ever enjoying sex.
In my view, bastards need to be exposed as bastards, and publicly shamed. I have said this before, but the movie “The Stoning of Soroya M” is worth watching. The Left, of course, could care less about the rights of women in Islamic countries, but all people of genuinely decent tendencies need to take a principled stand on this issue.
