‘Horse’s Asses’: Multiple Sclerosis-Afflicted Cavuto Slams MSNBC’s Attacks on Ann Romney

MSNBC’s continuous string of near slander against Mitt Romney has just spawned yet another aggressive bit of push-back, this time from Neil Cavuto of Fox News. You may recall that MSNBC anchor Lawrence O‘Donnell recently slammed Mitt Romney’s wife, Ann Romney, for claiming that she participates in the sport of dressage as therapy for her multiple sclerosis. According to O’Donnell, “There are a lot of things you can do to try to deal with MS. But come on, dressage does not appear in any of the more traditional courses of treatment.”
Turns out that that assertion is breathtakingly wrong, as Cavuto pointed out while citing multiple clinical organizations that treat multiple sclerosis and consider horse therapy a very traditional, and often very effective form of therapy. Watch his takedown here:
As you can plainly see, Cavuto doesn’t pull punches in this clip. “You’ve got a disease in your name – maybe you should stop calling names,” he starts the segment.
He then proceeds to go right for the jugular, while still remaining preternaturally calm, calling MSNBC a collection of “horse’s asses“ and slamming them as ”condescending, sanctimonious“ people with ”incredible ignorance” of multiple sclerosis treatments. He then points out that the horse riding therapy – known as “hippotherapy,” according to Cavuto – is used to treat walking conditions associated with multiple sclerosis. Quoting from the “industry bible” on neurology, Cavuto says straight out that “this is a legitimate therapy.”
Cavuto’s stern correction only serves to confirm the generally low opinion of MSNBC which is beginning to percolate amongst the rest of the media. Glenn Beck, for instance, hammered the network over its smear tactics on his radio show today after savaging their most recent factual errors:
“You have no credibility at all,” Beck thundered. “The ratings are going to tank on MSNBC, because Americans are fair.”
On a side note, setting aside the numerous factual errors on the network, Cavuto‘s takedown misses a blistering example of hypocrisy on the part of Lawrence O’Donnell. To complain about how particular therapies don’t appear on the “traditional” list, when the Left has pushed for numerous untested medical ideas, such as embryonic stem cell research and assisted suicide. Neither of these is in any way “traditional,” and O’Donnell is not on record opposing either of them, so why the selectiveness?

Posted on June 20, 2012 at 7:48pmI have Multiple Sclerosis. (dx 5yrs ago, probably had it since mid90s) I can tell you from experience that some of the better treatments for MS are not medicine related. Physical therapy has done more for me than any of the drugs that are being pushed as treatments. If I had access to a horse to use for therapy, I’d probably do the same thing that Mrs Romney is doing. As it is, I can do aquatic therapy and dry-land traditional PT.
If anyone else here has MS, my advice, start exercising, if you dont use it, you WILL lose it. Exercising keeps your muscles healthy for when the nerves go wonky and hopefully you wont lose too much muscle tone while waiting for a flare to end. Plus, exercising triggers natural endorphins that help keep you from getting depressed. The only time I havent been able to use PT has been when I had a vision problem (similar to Jack Osbourne) and that was only because it hurt too much to move my head. (you dont know how much you move your eyes until your optic nerve decides to melt down and cause vision and balance problems. Optic nerve pain is the worst.)

Posted on June 20, 2012 at 8:37pmI would have never thought it possible to call someone a “horse’s ass” with dignity and class.
I am a big enough man to admit, I was wrong.
Neil? Thank you. Well said.
I took particular note of how Neil framed the actual victim in this travesty…
naive, well-intentioned, honest, viewers, who came to accept broadcast “journalists” as “honest” and, therefore, are deceived by such blatant lies and personal attacks.
One specific object of disgust should be, this would have required the SIMPLEST of research on the part of MSNBC. Most disgusting of all, however, is that MSNBC stoops to attacking people’s health issues!!! Attacking one’s weakness, especially when it is of no fault of their own, is beneath any so-called “news outlet”… PERIOD.
As for you, NBC Universal…
Ask yourselves, should this be fertilized, cultivated, and grown?
Or, should it be yanked out by the root for the weed that it is?
If, for political or other reasons, you choose NOT to yank it out by its roots, perhaps you would do well to remove your name and logo from it, divest it into its own private company, and allow it to fail of its own accord?

Posted on June 20, 2012 at 11:34pmERINLINDSEY, you made a very profound statement when you said, “exercising triggers natural endorphins that help keep you from getting depressed”. I’ve been trying to explain that to people for years. Too many times in my profession I’ve seen unhappy people turn to Doctor Feelgood for a happy pill like Xanax, which makes them feel better for a little while and then strings them out so bad that they feel like they’ve sold their soul to the devil. Exercise is a much better alternative. And you don’t have to go to a gym, work up a sweat, or strain your muscles. Just take a long, slow walk. Ride a bike for a mile or two. Or do a little Tai Chi a few hours a week. Get your heart pumping and your blood flowing. The endorphins go straight to your head, and you would be amazed at how good it makes you feel and how much it brightens your mood. I’ve never been on horseback in my life, but I imagine it’s much like swimming. The action itself forces you to use your muscles, but you’re not really straining at it.

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 6:38amYou have my complete admiration for handling an unbelievably difficult situation with composure and common sense. However, I fail to see how Ann Romney’s life style/choices has anything to do with anything. Whether she has MS or some other disease, she is a wealthy woman who loves horses; and her choice to be involved in dressage (or whatever else you might want to call it) is entirely her own business. She likes it, she can afford it, and the rest of the world should just butt out!

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 10:12amWhat is with the continual streaming problems with The Blaze, GBTV? All the time, EVERY DAY. It takes me at least two hours to watch a one hour program on GBTV. The Blaze videos will not load and if they do, it’s stop, go, stop, go, stop, go, reload, reload. Either that or you hear the voice but the video is not playing. On The Blaze, you have this constant, aggravating as hell, pop-up that keeps directing you to “Next Story”. So, you are constantly deleting that popup. If you happen to miss the tiny X, then you have to reload the story you WERE reading. I DON’T NEED YOU TO DIRECT ME TO THE NEXT STORY. I AM A BIG GIRL. I can find the next story I want to read ALL BY MYSELF. Then there’s the Irish Spring advertisement that floats across EVERY story and hangs there til you hunt for the X to delete it. Really, Blaze? GBTV. I love you Glenn, but you have got to address your streaming problems and loading problems. If it were just GBTV or just The Blaze, but it is on both and very time consuming. Now, for instance, I am trying to watch the above clips and it is constantly flashing like strobe lights. The second clip of Glenn won’t even play. I have to load and reload. It is very time consuming and discouraging to try and watch GBTV or watch videos or even load a page on The Blaze. And don’t even try hitting the back button on The Blaze. Takes forever.

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 12:09pmWatching seething psycho Larry O’Donnell try to sell the “dressage” talking point (wink..it‘s the rich guy’s sport and everyone knows rich guys are so out of touch, unlike hollywood elite partier Barack Hussein Obama) was uncomfortable to watch. It was desperation personified.
Trying to balance not insulting people with MS (and not appearing mean spirited to Ann Romney) while trying to score political points against her husband was always an impossible task and psycho Larry failed that task grand style.

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 12:26pmOf course the full statement at issue, has nothing to with MS, but if you would have watched the full segment on MSNBC, it was that Romney was using the horse as a $77,000 business tax deduction. Again, the truth matters and quick editing by FOx only proves that they are a den of liars.

Had to chuckle at your post. Just remembered what “the-lady-of-THE-house” said about a well-known supporter of this regime….who use to be “the-lady-of-daytime-talk-shows“ and something about a ”certain-gait” this lady has, as she would continually walk the halls of THE house.
And the gait goes on!
Ann is a class act. Have read the posts from people who have MS. A co-worker’s wife had MS and for years, she was able to function and she, like Ann, kept moving and “just-living” until the MS got worse….however, this lady was a real-champion and kept her “wicked-sense-of-humor”. She got this news of having MS in her early 20′s, shortly before getting married. Theory at that time, was for some reason, if a woman got pregnant & gave birth, strong possibility that would “pause” the advancement of the disease. She gave birth to the cutest “red-headed-orphan-annie” girl and only when her daughter became a teenager that the MS started to slowly advance. Her daughter & husband continued to have a great life with this “positive-attitude” lady. (they moved out of the area in the 80‘s so don’t know anymore).
Report Post »Whatever “deck-of-cards” we are dealed….NO ONE knows what “they” would do until something happens to them.
God Bless Ann & Neil.”When the going gets tough, the tough get going”.

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 1:09pmAmericans overwhelmingly regard the debate over President Barack Obama’s policy on employer-provided contraceptive coverage as a matter of women’s health, not religious freedom,
rejecting Republicans’ rationale for opposing the rule. More than three-quarters say the topic shouldn’t even be a part of the U.S. political debate.
More than six in 10 respondents to a Bloomberg National Poll — including almost 70 percent of women — say the issue involves health care and access to birth control, according to the survey taken March 8-11.
That conflicts with Republican presidential candidates Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney, who say Obama is violating religious freedom by requiring employers
– including those with religious objections to birth control — to provide a way for women to obtain contraceptive coverage as part of their insurance plans.
