If after listening to the following new music video getting play on MTV you find yourself confused, you’re not alone.
Below is a song by rapper Lupe Fiasco, a Chicago-born musician. But don’t think that his Chicago ties make him a fan of Barack Obama. He’s not:
“Gaza strip was getting bombed, Obama didn’t say sh**; Thats why I aint vote for him, next one either.”
Ok, so he’s probably a little more conservative (ignore the above “Gaza” line and just play along). Nope, not that either:
“Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist.”
Hmm. He’s also not a fan of radical Islam:
“Jihad is not a holy war, wheres that in the worship? Murdering is not Islam! And you are not observant; And you are not a muslim.”
Oh, so that must mean he likes Israel, right? Wrong.
“Israel don’t take my side cause look how far you’ve pushed them.”
Well, one thing is clear — he’s a 9/11 truther:
“9/11 building 7 did they really pull it; Uhh, And a bunch of other cover ups.”
I said you’d be confused. You can listen to an edited version of the song below:
The unedited lyrics are below:
[Skylar Grey]
It’s so loud Inside my head
With words that I should have said!
As I drown in my regrets
I can’t take back the words I never said
I can’t take back the words I never said
[Lupe Fiasco]
I really think the war on terror is a bunch of bullshit
Just a poor excuse for you to use up all your bullets
How much money does it take to really make a full clip
9/11 building 7 did they really pull it
Uhh, And a bunch of other cover ups
Your childs future was the first to go with budget cuts
If you think that hurts then, wait here comes the uppercut
The school was garbage in the first place, thats on the up and up
Keep you at the bottom but tease you with the uppercrust
You get it then they move you so you never keeping up enough
If you turn on TV all you see’s a bunch of “what the f-cks”
Dude is dating so and so blabbering bout such and such
And that aint Jersey Shore, homie thats the news
And these the same people that supposed to be telling us the truth
Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist
Gaza strip was getting bombed, Obama didn’t say shit
Thats why I aint vote for him, next one either
I’m a part of the problem, my problem is I’m peaceful
And I believe in the people.
[Skylar Grey - Chorus]
It’s so loud inside my head
With words that I should have said!
As I drown in my regrets
I can’t take back the words I never said
I can’t take back the words I never said
[Lupe Fiasco - Verse 2]
Now you can say it aint our fault if we never heard it
But if we know better than we probably deserve it
Jihad is not a holy war, wheres that in the worship?
Murdering is not Islam!
And you are not observant
And you are not a muslim
Israel don’t take my side cause look how far you’ve pushed them
Walk with me into the ghetto, this where all the Kush went
Complain about the liquor store but what you drinking liquor for?
Complain about the gloom but when’d you pick a broom up?
Just listening to Pac aint gone make it stop
A rebel in your thoughts, aint gon make it halt
If you don’t become an actor you’ll never be a factor
Pills with million side effects
Take em when the pains felt
Wash them down with Diet soda!
Killin off your brain cells
Crooked banks around the World
Would gladly give a loan today
So if you ever miss payment
They can take your home away!
[Skylar Grey - Chorus]
It’s so loud inside my head
With words that I should have said!
As I drown in my regrets
I can’t take back the words I never said, never said
I can’t take back the words I never said
[Lupe Fiasco - Verse 3]
I think that all the silence is worse than all the violence
Fear is such a weak emotion thats why I despise it
We scared of almost everything, afraid to even tell the truth
So scared of what you think of me, I’m scared of even telling you
Sometimes I’m like the only person I feel safe to tell it to
I’m locked inside a cell in me, I know that there’s a jail in you
Consider this your bailing out, so take a breath, inhale a few
My screams is finally getting free, my thoughts is finally yelling through
[Skylar Grey - Chorus]
It’s so loud Inside my head
With words that I should have said!
As I drown in my regrets
I can’t take back the words I never said

Posted on April 29, 2011 at 2:11pm*sigh* I’m really tired of this garbage. I don‘t care where he grew up or what his or his family’s income level is/was. He over-privileged and elitist and he doesn’t understand how lucky he is to be in a country that allows him to say things like this (aka nonsense, but who’s really listening anyway?).
Were he in the middle east he’d be at least jailed if not executed for “insulting” Islam. Here he can throw all kinds of names and indictments around and insult whatever/whomever he likes and the worst he can expect is for someone to reply to him with their opinion of what he said.
For example: If you’re not happy here butt-head, go somewhere else.
There you go. The peaceful discourse that can freely be engaged here in the US. LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT!!!!!!! moron.

Defamation of character for starters. The unauthorized use of GB‘s and Rush’s names in the song for profit. Just to name a few.

If either filed a lawsuit for that they would be laughed out of court. Nothing in this song is defamatory, all he is doing is stating his opinion, which he has the absolute right to do.
If you think this is defamation, then I guess Glenn Beck and Rush would be liable for it as well. Every day they make offensive remarks about Obama, calling him racist and communist. But, because we have something called free speech in this country, they have the right to do that, just like Lupe Fiasco has the right to say this stuff.

Racist is as racist does.
Not to overly generalize the what I heard more than once is black men refer to each other as “niggas” and to thier women as “hoes or bitches”. Now I for one couldn’t care less what they spend thier money on but when some spend it on illegal activities it creates a problem.
Stereotypying the situation doesn’t address the problem.

Posted on April 29, 2011 at 7:59pm@SWIGS
I wasn’t stereotyping anything, but I was responding to a comment that was stereotyping blacks as only spending money on “the hoes” and “the crack.” My point was that @ANGIEA, by insinuating that blacks will only spend money on hoes and crack, was propagating a racist stereotype. I however, was doing nothing of the sort.

Technically, they don’t meet the first requirement you lay out either. At least to anybody with a basic understanding of the English language.
But to address your point, such as it is, well frankly you’re correct. You see, my level of intelligence is such that I find it difficult to destroy and debase common words and understanding on the fly in such a way that I can deliver a monosyllabic word containing paragraph time after time, that rhymes and makes any kind of sense. My poetry, you see, takes time to develop, to ponder, in effect to create mental images that reflect not only some particular viewpoint but which also does so in a way that creates strong and beautiful emotional imagery in the reader’s mind.
Sure, it’s not direct like most rap which challenges us with such lofty visual imagery as “slammin a 40 while smokin’ a shorty”, but rather sublime and refined. I prefer it that way, thank you.

He did forget to mention AIDS and crack being a US gov’t/white race conspiracy to destroy the black community, though. That would have been the trifecta right there.

Posted on April 29, 2011 at 3:54pm@ REDENBLACK,
OK, I know this is a waste of time and effort, but open your mind here just a little and don’t be afraid. Your kool-aid drinking induced view of the Tea Party (thanks for calling it Tea Party) is totally irrational and way off from the truth. This is what the movement is about:
• Limited federal government
• Individual freedoms
• Personal responsibility
• Free markets
• Returning political power to the states and the people
Here’s the kicker: How can a movement that wants to limit government control, and protect individual liberty, be accused of wanting to control or affect anything you want to do? How can a movement that wants to take out the influence of federal politicians out of your daily life be accused of wanting to influence your daily life. Even if Tea Party people were elected in the majority their personal views won‘t effect you becuase they’ll be LIMITED. That‘s what the constitution say’s, limited powers. Your favorite social program or favorite agency or department can be instituted in your community or state if the citizens feel they need to be taxed for it. Some of the intentions of those social programs are good. They’re just not the responsibility of the FEDRAL government. They’re policy is one size fits all. That just doesn’t work.
The sooner people stop looking at the fed’s as their mommy and daddy the better off people will be. Do you really want freedom? Do you really want power? Then quit giving it away to corrupt politicians in Washington.
By the way, I don’t worship any man.
Hope that helps. Believe me, we have more things in common than not. We’re being divided by politicians for their personal gain. They‘ve got us fighting repub’s vs dem’s, right vs left, this race vs that race, rich vs poor, while laughing all the way to the bank. I refuse to be duped anymore.

Powerful message too… speak your mind or lose your right to speech, keep the government out of your lives before it takes it over…. although I don’t recall Glen Beck ever being a racist… Rush, yes, but Glen no. Great imagery in the video and a good message (for the most part) through and through.

Posted on April 29, 2011 at 7:32pm@Ghostoffefferson You sir are correct! However, a key aspect of Hip_hop is “freestyling.” That term sometimes is taken too lightly. It does take time, practice, deep thought, reflection, courage, emotion, and imagery. This form of art is practiced to make it spontaneous and direct. Some hip_hop artists do take time into writing traditional poetry which also takes critical thinking to develop. As you may have noticed, I do not use the term Rap. That is because there EXISTS a fine line between hip-hop and rap. To lump all Hip-Hop artists with gangster rapping thugs is stereotypical and a generalization in itself. Check out for yourself some other artists and their music before “judging them all.” A few hip hoppers that may change your mind. (Binary Star, Elzhi, Zion I, Pete Rock, Cunninlynguists). BUT, I do AGREE, most gangster RAP, that these kids listen to, is degrading, demoralizing, and satanic.
@thetreyman Well sir, you may have called me names and made generalizations about myself, but your opinion is nothing. I’m a 24 year-old college grad student and possess a strong intergrity. I think you have been misled in history. The forefathers that you may so much adore, did grow/manufacture hemp for the use of Industry and consumption. For thousands of years, Marijuana has been used by many prominent scholar/authoritative figures to enhance critical thinking. It did not become illegal until the progressive movement in the 1930s. It was majorly due to the fact that whites were scared into a ‘crisis’ and the Gov. could make more money. (just like the prohibition). You sir need to think outside the box. The narrow minded, hypocritical, facist, and indoctrinated ‘sheep’ are what IS ruining this country. We need to end Keynesian economics and RE-ENSTATE FREEDOM! It was legal for the first 150 years of our country’s history. But I’m not trying to seude you in any way, just saying that when sh*t hits the fan, are you really going to start a battle over a joint?

Posted on April 30, 2011 at 12:21am@thetreyman I agree sir. Moderation is key. But to disregard people solely because of their screen name or their beliefs in a certain aspect is wrong. You are stooping to the progressive socialist level. If I wish to partake in the consumption of marijuana, i should able to legally. Not because its an intoxicating drug, but because I should have to basic freedom to do so. What has happened, is the Government has replaced God and they think they can judge as if they were the supreme being (brainwashing you to do the same). I agree, everyday consumption can make you fat and lazy. But, it depends on the individual and if you let it make you stupid. Just like alcohol and pharmaceuticals, the effects are different for everyone. Moderation is key. To you, my opinions are going to be wrong and your going to think I believe im always right. Not True. I try to admit when im wrong and i pursue doing whats right. I’m a good samaritan Christian, but i guess you think not since my name is cause420…
