House Committee Hunts for ‘Harmful Rules’

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House on Friday instructed its committees to hunt down and eliminate government regulations that cause job losses and prevent economic growth.

The debate, which consumed nine hours over two days, was held because Republicans wanted to speak during televised floor sessions. But the resolution had little practical effect, since House Republican leaders had already told committee chairmen to search for — and destroy — harmful rules imposed by unelected bureaucrats. Several committees already held public hearings to spotlight the issue.

Democrats, in vain, suggested the Republicans forgo the debate and simply pass the resolution since both parties would vote for it. However, Democrats did nothing to shorten the time — going to the microphone repeatedly to say the resolution was unnecessary. It passed 391-28.

Republicans and representatives of the business community have been especially critical of Environmental Protection Agency proposals to regulate greenhouse gases and boiler emissions, Occupational Safety and Health Administration workplace rules, and proposals to carry out provisions of legislation to overhaul the health insurance system and financial institutions.

President Barack Obama has ordered a review of all federal requirements to see which regulations are no longer needed, and has started a dialogue with business leaders to discuss their concerns as the 2012 election campaign gets closer. House Democrats have made similar pledges, but have also argued that some regulations protect Americans’ safety and health, and prevent consumer fraud.

Before the final vote on the resolution, Democrats unsuccessfully tried to amend it to preserve standards for safe foods and drinking water and children’s toys.

Sponsor Russ Carnahan, D-Mo., argued that the rush to kill regulations fails to acknowledge “the financial disaster that was brought upon this country by greed and corruption on Wall Street. It fails to acknowledge the disaster of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. It fails to acknowledge toxic toys and drywall imported from China. It fails to acknowledge the increase in deadly food-borne illness from lax oversight of our food safety system.”

Republicans were not about to let Democrats change their resolution. Carnahan’s proposal was defeated, 242-178.

Heres a hint on this “house hunt”———1st take OUR monetary system back…………
    1) GET RID OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE–and repeal 1913 fed reserve act
    2) FF/US Constitutions states that Congress is to be the “overseer of the countries ”currency”
    3) get rid of fiat money—-that will take away the govts secret little “inflation tax game”
4)Put US back on either a gold standard or modified gold standard—just because wiener hates it..
    5) balanced budget—-pay as you go………..

Carnahan that these events occurred with massive government regulations in place with thousands of over-paid under-qualified regulators stifling American productivity.

Come on people, why are we fighting them? There is a peaceful solution to all this. Why don’t we just hand them the keys and relax? It’ll be over in a minute. Sit back have some beers, watch season ten or eleven of American Idol, which ever it is. They’ll just quietly build their Progressive, Marxist, Communist, Muslim utopia, they’ll only execute 150+ million people or so. This is a revised number, since Bill Ayers group said it would be 25 Million in the 60’s, I’m allowing for the increase in population. But what the hell, they’re only the ones that don’t fit the mold anyway, then we’ll be all set; those remaining will have a blast and a wonderful life, right? We are most certainly going to lose our unique country anyway; it’s inevitable, despite getting our warnings from Glenn and a few others. So let’s just go peacefully. How can we win? We don’t have the guts to get rid of the enemy from within our midst, so quit kidding yourself. How do you ever restore and keep the Republic when they stand there with a shredder ready to destroy the constitution and the Bill of Rights if you relax for one second, well how? I’m waiting. So our children and grandchildren end up fighting for food in the streets, so what, they’ve been totally spoiled and uneducated anyway, they don’t know the difference, they think jobs and money grow on trees, just ask some of them. Ever watch Jaywalking on Leno? They don’t worry about job killing regulations. So why should we care, screw the American Dream, we had it all, it’s over. Show me the camps; I’m ready for the ovens, tired of the crap. Let’s do it, no more worries, I am ready to celebrate. Absolutely Not!

March 9, 2010 FORMER House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of controversy.”

“In a democracy there is a centralization of governmental power in a simple majority. And that, visibly, is the system of government which the enemies of our republic are seeking to impose on us today. Nor are we “drifting” into that system … We are being insidiously, conspiratorially, and treasonously led by deception, by bribery, by coercion, and by fear, to destroy a republic that was the envy and model for all of the civilized world.”
Robert Welch, (1899 – 1985) founder of the John Birch Society

John Stuart Mills,(1806-1873) also warned of a second danger to liberty, which democracies are prone to, namely, the tyranny of the ,majority In a representative democracy, if you can control the majority (and get them to vote for, and elect, your candidates) then you can control everyone (because your candidates, once “democratically elected”, will pass whatever laws are needed for this, as was done by Hitler’s agents in the 1930s in Nazi Germany and seems to be happening today in the U.S.A.)
    Sound familiar??? Obama, Pelosi, Reid.

Another sign that the old guard R’s do not have a clue. The world is unravelling around their ears (because they were born deaf) and they can not seem to get the message. This is more of the same as when the former House Speaker Dennis Hastert in 2006 produced the 2007 change-horses in the dark. Old guard is still deaf, what was the tea party in 2009 screaming at a shrill octave? Look up Dennis and his ponzi business, thanks to a little-known perk given to ex-speakers. Dennis had the reins for many sessions. I suspect Speaker Pelosi also has a similar business in the making. John Boehner also gets this perk some day

Is representative governance doomed to repeat that which evades even the most sincere politician? House and Senate rules that are hidden from public review is the circle jerk SNAFU.

They created a new term of ‘saved jobs’ since it was obvious they weren’t creating jobs. The simple fact is government only creates government jobs which end up costing taxpayers. It is the private sector that creates jobs and the best way to do that is to have Government step aside, stop imposing rules and regulations that stymie corporations and to stop vilifying businesses because they make profits. I think the R’s are better at this then the D’s.

I agree with Conservatives who say that the government cannot and does not create jobs – Not even government jobs because for every government worker – there have to be numerous private industry employees working hard just to pay enough taxes to support each gov’t worker.

That is not to say that government can’t be useful at helping private industry create more jobs. Case in point – the Chinese gov’t is mostly filled with engineers (who are trained to produce useful items from raw materials), whereas the US gov’t is mostly filled with lawyers (who are trained to sustain themselves at the expense of others. Allowing lawyers to work in government has created a self-fulfilling “perpetual-motion” machine of lawyer employment).

In the USA it seems that gov’t only looks on business as a golden-egg-laying goose to be plucked, cooked, and consumed. The only businesses the gov’t here helps are those that donate heavily to re-election campaigns. If you are a business owner with a unionized workforce, then even though you might pay millions of dollars to the government in taxes, your duck is f*k’d because the union will own you – just ask GM and Chrysler who badly needed to go through bankruptcy court to be able to break the stranglehold of their anticompetitive union contracts…

And we let our gov’t employees unionize??? We are so cooked!

In China, the gov’t bends over backwards to support the growth of business and foreign investment. Their gov‘t policy is to corner the world market on precious metals and energy supplies so that China will have has all the strategic metals and energy they’ll need to produce the best goods at the best prices for decades to come.

What is our gov’t doing but taxing us to death and driving our industries into the arms of the Chinese? We have the highest corporate income taxes in the world!

A friend of mine with just a small business (fewer than 100 employees) was invited to visit China to discuss opportunities there. He went as much out of curiosity as anything else, and a chance to do a little sightseeing. Imagine his surprise when the wife of the mayor of Shanghai met and spent a whole afternoon taking him on a tour of their city and discussing all the opportunities they could make possible for him! Shanghai completed an average of 3 new skyscrapers/high-rise office or apartment buildings a week – every week for the past 20 years!!! Detroit might have built all of three over the last 20 years and they’re having trouble keeping those filled. That’s the difference between a city that is business friendly and a city that views businesses as taxpayers to be screwed over.

China means business in every sense of the word and all this petty infighting between D‘s and R’s is just fighting over the crumbs that are going to be falling off China’s table since the US Congress has not been serious about supporting business for years! Hell we can’t even drill off our own shores – but the Chinese are drilling there!

Enjoy the taste of that Peking duck because when it’s gone, it’s going to stay gone for a long time – Don’t you think?

Why is every regulation coming out of Obamas unelected unvetted czars a job killer? Because they need high unemployment, high prices to get the people to riot. They need this to push them to do what they want to do but need an excuse to do it. They need chaos. Then they can instute the form of gov‘t they want to ’save’ us. Tre R’s are right get rid of these regulations. Every regulation should be subject to Congressional review along with every Executive Order. Many prople do not realize that a regulation becomes law 60 days after it is published in the Federal Register. No one reviews it. Absolutely no one. If it is disagreed with you can file a law suit to stop it. Thta is not in the Constitution. That is rule by edict. The same thing kings do. The same thing dictators do. It must be stopped.

Government CANNOT create jobs because government does not create a PRODUCT; therefore, it cannot make the profit necessary to create jobs from a product.

It’s in Rules for Radicals by Saul Alinsky, Granof5. The Progressive Democrats are following their instructions on how to bring this country down.

No need to argue with me, Progressives~~I have Alinsky’s book right here on my desk beside the Holy Bible and the Constitution of the United States.

Government doesn’t create jobs. R or D matters not.

They just need to get the hell out of the way and stop trying to control everything.
Jobs will be created by We The People.

Stop the fingerpointing and let’s work together to get the government to follow our mandates. After all, both parties are at fault, and have been for MANY years! Let‘s all work together as We the People to go after both parties to do what’s right for the country. Are you with us?

“A sure sign the R’s have no idea how to “create jobs” ~~go figure”

Again, you throw a USELESS comment out with no context. Share with us your solution to job creation. My guess is that you will not because you have no clue yourself.

President Barack Obama has ordered a review of all federal requirements to see which regulations are no longer needed,.. this is a dog and pony show My understanding is there was a bill signed I beleive by Jimmy C that make it law for the President to do this every 10 years.. Just that NO other president has make a SHOW of doing so.. although I can see WHY he is since his REGULATIONS are KILLING us rather than making us SAFER..

      tifosa:

They will provide a balance by removing regulations which cost jobs, it’s better then doing what the Democrat have been doing by regulating and creating rules and laws that were never voted on via the EPA, OSHA and on and on.
