WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) — The House has passed a stopgap spending measure to avert a government shutdown this weekend. The legislation also refills disaster aid coffers drained by a series of recent storms, fires and tornadoes.
The measure passed the House with the unanimous permission of all members present in a chamber that was nearly empty because Congress is on vacation. It now goes to the White House for President Obama’s signature.
The measure provides $2.7 billion in disaster aid, less than both Democrats and Republicans had hoped for. A battle over whether some of the aid should have been “paid for’ with spending cuts elsewhere caused lawmakers to pare the measure back.
The stopgap bill funds the government through Tuesday, allowing lawmakers to return next week and vote on another stopgap bill.

Posted on September 29, 2011 at 3:59pmI don’t know how Washington, DC politics work. I don’t know how Congress works. All I know is that these Republicans are a bunch of spineless rubber stamping zombies for Dingy Harry and Chuck Shumer. Here is Harry Reid deep-sixing the Congress’ bill and drafting a senate bill. Look how quickly John Boehner‘s disciples approve Dingy Harry’s bill. What kind of crap is that!!!

Posted on September 29, 2011 at 12:27pmI read they took this money from the Dept. of Energy or was it the EPA who WERE going use as part of the ‘green initiave’. If true, then I say “Good for you House!” Defund those departments we have been screaming to you about that we want shut down completely or reigned in so tightly they squeek! Those in power ‘up there’ on the hill don‘t have a problem taking from SS so I pat the House on the back for taking that which would’ve been used against us to now be used for good. Maybe this is why Harry wanted to stop it?
