House Passes Republican Plan to Extend Bush-Era Tax Cuts for ALL Americans

The House on Wednesday passed legislation by a vote of 265-171 to extend the Bush-era tax cuts through 2013 for all Americans, not just those making less than $250,000 a year.

“Republicans want to preserve the Bush tax cuts across all six income brackets, ensuring that the top two rates remain at 35% and 33% next year. The party also wants to keep dividend and capital gains tax rates at 15% and the estate tax at 35% after the transfer of the first $5.1 million,” the Wall Street Journal’s Siobhan Hughes writes.

“The GOP has also tacked on a two-year extension of relief from the alternative minimum tax, which was intended to apply to the rich but is threatening to ensnare more Americans because it was never indexed for inflation,” she adds.

The House vote is directly opposed to legislation passed last week in the Senate by a vote 51-48 that calls for tax increases on America’s top earners.

“It’s time to put the politics aside,” said House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) “Raising taxes at this point in this economy is a very big mistake.”

Many analysts believe today’s vote is little more than a symbolic victory for the GOP-controlled House. And they’re probably not too far off in saying so.

We can expect the legislation to meet its demise once it makes its way to the Democrat-controlled Senate and falls into the hands of Senate Majority Leaders Harry Reid (D-NV).

Great job, Blaze, in not providing your readership with full information on this bill and directing them to a link that requires you to become a subscriber (for $25.96 a month) in order to read the full article on the other site, which is wholly owned by News Corp. What your so-called article fails to mention to your readers is that not included in this bill is an extension of the EIC, Child Tax Credit and an education credit, all of which are predominantly geared towards lower, lower-middle, and middle-class income families. These tax credits are set to expire at the end of 2012. And if they are allowed to expire, approximately 23 to 25 million Americans will see an increase in their end-of-year taxes. I would love to know what the average wage is of your readership?

Romney’s “candidacy remains tested by concerns over his business background and his reluctance to release more of his tax returns.” Both of these issues get to his credibility for some voters.
The sustained attacks by the Obama campaign on Romney’s tenure at Bain Capital have helped that concern along.
———————————–Romney’s own refusal to release more of than two years of his tax returns are contributing to the view that he has something to hide. And I contend that all of this is making it difficult for Romney’s economic message to break through.

Why should voters trust his plans for job creation if his tenure at Bain was about cutting jobs or shipping them overseas? ————————-Why should voters trust him to fix the tax code in a manner that would be fair to all and not simply the wealthy like him?

The tax-return issue is especially harmful because he looks shifty, like he has something to hide. His worry that his critics will use them to embarrass him, while understandable, is of no consequence to the American public.
——————————-They are asked to produce multiple years of tax returns for plenty of things less important than the privilege of being president of the United States. Romney is asking the American people to trust him with their lives and livelihood. —————————The least he could do is be transparent about his finances.

      But that’s part of Romney’s problem, isn’t

I say let it die in the Senate and shut down the government, if necessarry. The House needs to stand it‘s ground and force the Sentate to do it’s job. We haven’t had a budget in over 1000 days and have how many resolutions to keep doing the same old stuff. So, just stop it, go home, take the weekend off, and let the Democrats decide what they are going to do next.

I agree. I thought in our nation everyone was created equal and equal rights for all. So why should people who are more successful in making money be treated differently than everyone else. The government already rewards people who are not successful at making money by giving them free this and that, breaks on other things, and a head start over others. Why does a kid whos family makes 15,000 a year deserve a special program to get them into college but the kid whos family makes 50,000 a year doesn’t. The kids are equal, but because one family makes more money, they are basically told their kid somehow has an advantage over the other kid. Why do these politicians want to punish people for being successful and reward people for poor performance. In my opinion it creates a climate where it is better not to try as hard.

What we really need is tax reform. A flat tax would be great where everyone is treated equally. The current system is taxation without fair representation. If the tax is progressive then the vote should be as well.

I support a flat tax that is collected through a national sales tax. The federal income tax would be abolished. People with more money spend more money so in return, would pay more tax. People with less money buy less and would pass less tax. It’s a far cry from the IRS tax code that makes up enough pages to fill an entire 5000 sf house. With 50% of Americans paying NO tax, somethings got to give….

Pfft, another 1 year extension. Yep, those symbolic votes of the Republicans are really helping. /s If they had any balls they would have made it permanent. But NOOOOOO. Got to keep the yearly fight going so that the Dems can keep using this politically……………calling it a tax cut instead of a tax rate increase. Or, they can use the Obama MiniTru descriptor, a negative revenue enhancement.

compared to europe, we are sort of the best looking whore in town. when they panick or realize that the dollar is unstable, they will withdraw their capital and interest rates will skyrocket.

Also, consider the activity of the Fed. The Fed is accomidating every possible low intrest rate tool because they know a 2% increase will destroy our economy. Did you know that the Fed is buying 60% of our new debt???

You’re assuming government can create wealth,it can’t create wealth it can only destroy wealth through taxation which simply penalizes citizens for their wealth creation and allows government to waste our money on unconstitutional social programs.
