House Passes Three Bills Lifting Obama’s Drilling Moratorium

WASHINGTON (AP/THE BLAZE) — The Republican-controlled House has easily passed the last of three bills to expedite and expand oil and gas drilling.  While these bills promise to create jobs and expedite oil production, both the Senate and the White House stand in opposition.

In a 243-179 vote Thursday, the House passed a measure that would open up areas off the West and East coasts, Alaska and the eastern Gulf of Mexico to drilling. The Obama administration pulled back on leasing in some of those spots after the Gulf oil spill last year to further evaluate the environmental consequences. It never considered drilling in the Pacific.  FOX News has more:

Republicans say that the bill, along with [the] two other drilling measures passed earlier this month, would create 1.2 million jobs and lower the price of oil. The Congressional Budget Office says that the offshore lease sales would generate $800 million in revenue over ten years.

The bill directs the Interior Department to select lease areas based on how much oil and gas they contain.  The measure joins two others passed earlier by the House to speed up drilling and leasing.

House Passes Three Bills Lifting Obamas Drilling Moratorium

President Obama has a complicated history when it comes to domestic oil procurement.  While Obama originally supported expanding oil and gas exploration, the Gulf oil disaster changed his course:

In March 2010, Obama sounded like he wanted to expand the plan with more oil and gas exploration on the Outer Continental Shelf. But he left out the Northeast and West coast to appease political supporters opposed to drilling. The policy included expanded drilling in the Arctic and Gulf of Mexico.

The president then changed his mind about those plans after the April 2010 BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, and a six-month moratorium was instituted in the Atlantic and eastern Gulf areas — set to expire Nov. 30, 2010.

With all three bills unlikely to pass the Senate, they will probably fall legislatively flat.  That said, their proposal and passage in the House is a significant development in the energy independence dialogue.

One big mouth yelled that doing drilling now wouldn’t matter for at least 10 years.

Isn’t that the same thing other big mouths in DC said a decade ago and a decade before that?

What foreign countries are our elected officials trying to help – at our expense?

    Ya gotta start sometime guys.

I am pretty sure that Obambi will lift the ban on drilling now because it will be good to campaign on. But rest assured that if somehow he does get re-elected that ban will become in full effect again. Accidents on drilling rigs are just like flying in an aircraft. Everything goes well until something is missed or breaks then you have accidents. Hopefully we can get Obambi out of our hair forever.

We have a greater oil reserve in this Country than Saudi Arabia, so we should drill our own oil. It would bring 3 million jobs, and help to pay down the debt. That’s what I heard someone (sorry, I forgot his name) on Fox News tell us this past week-end. Whatever the case may be, we should drill our own oil and become self-sufficient again, and in the meantime, bring our jobs back to America where they belong and stop importing inferior products from other countries. Anyone who takes our jobs overseas is a traitor in my book. And…get rid of unions and pay our own people a FAIR WAGE, lower taxes, and lower the interest rate, and start caring about our Country and our own people. The rest of the world hates us anyway. And…all those who hate America and Americans…go back to where you came from. We don’t much care for you either. And…the next time you need help…cry to the UN and see where that gets you. Just sayin’. I’m getting tired of the whiners.
The democrats in the Senate, and the people in the White House will fight this thing tooth and nail, because they don‘t care about America and they don’t much care to produce jobs for the American people, or they would have done something to facilitate that in the last two years. We are paying Brazil to produce oil and build refineries with tax dollars, so that the American people can buy Brazil’s oil. How utterly STUPID is that, when we have our own oil; pay our debt with our tax dollars.

When we actually start to run out of oil the price will NATURALLY rise so high that other means will be discovered or invented, unless the government gets in the way because it has its own plan. Government innovation is the classic oxymoron.

But we haven’t come close to the end of oil, just the end of the really easy oil, the stuff that was begging to come out of the ground. Now we will have to do some convincing, except the ecowackjops won’t let us.

Some people just have no real understanding of the need, uses and production of energy. Solar, wind and other renewable sources are fabulous. However, combined they equal a tiny fraction of a drop in the bucket. Work continues to increase the amount of renewables in our energy pie. Matter of fact, we have been pursuing these and other sources for many years, hard to get around the laws of thermal dynamics. Plain and simple, we need oil most for food production. Petro-chemicals and fertilizer are petroleum products that are essential to the production of food.
Maybe someone will come up with a viable super clean energy one day or make existing energy more efficient. The argument is basically throwing the baby out with the bath water. No one wants to destroy our habitat and by the same token we don’t want to starve to death. A cheap plentiful source of energy is absolutely necessary for any nation to prosper.
Exxon just released there quarterly profit, it was a whopping 8%. It was billions of dollars but only 8% of there total revenue. Wonder where all the other money went? Lets see, payroll, exploration, shareholder dividends (yes it is a publicly held company), production, taxes and much more i’m sure.
SO BEFORE WE TAKE ADVICE FROM THE GALACTICLY STUPID ON WHERE AND HOW WE GET OUR ENERGY, MAYBE WE SHOULD ASK SOME QUESTIONS. “We have to save the environment and starve half the planet”. An exaggeration to be sure but a real issue when it comes to energy.

This thing about the Senate Dems calling up the Oil CEO’s to answer some questions is nothing but a show for the “useful idiots” to think they are trying to do something about the gas prices, remember 2005? Same show, but the Oil CEO’s do not influence the cost of oil, it is the FEDERAL RESERVE and Ben Burnake destroying the value of our dollar and therefore making the prices of energy “Necessarily skyrocket” to quote the Potif in Chief about his plan for our energy. It’s nothing more than a Cass Sunstein nudge to quit driving, and while you‘re at it quit eating that food you can’t afford at the grocery store and stop using that harmful AC in your house when it gets to 100F so you can die of heat stroke in your house, I mean these lunatics think the globe is having a fever because there are too many people on the planet and so this would help reduce the surplus population. 2. You can’t prove oil and gas fields until they are drilled. It costs millions of dollars in geophysical testing before the 1st well is drilled, and they won’t spend a dime in testing until the oil companies have leases in hand.

As a fellow Georgian I concur. If we can get it through the senate and that communist in the White House will sign it the price of fuel will drop instantaneously because the Saudis do NOT want us to have our own resources, it would put them out of business. Their plan will be to make oil so cheap it isn’t worth drilling here. Then they will stick t to us again!

      Liberal philosophy in a nut-shell:
      1) Don’t use your own natural resources…rely on hostile foreign countries for it.
      2) Tax the incentive out of the rich job creators, thus sending jobs overseas.
      3) Abort your babies.
      4) Limit your own country’s productivity by restricting “harmful emissions.”
      5) Don’t allow law-abiding citizens to possess firearms.
      6) Cut our national defense down to nothing.
      7) Allow anyone in the country who wants in regardless of their motive for being here.
      8) Borrow and spend. Borrow and spend. Then, borrow and spend some more.
      9) Teach that the United States of America is an oppressor rather than a liberator.
      10) Encourage unions, who promote laziness and entitlements.

Sadly, with the Islamic “takeover” of the middle east, which will inevitably end up with the U.S. being “cut off” from middle east oil supplies at some point in the future because of their hatred for us, we are approaching the midnight hour on drilling our own oil.

You have to understand the Commie Socialist agenda. This government does not want America to florish or even be productive. The communists in the white house wants America to be dependent on the dictators of the world. He needs unemployment to spread his socialism and dependence on him and his administration. It‘s too bad the lefties can’t see this. If we don’t elect people that are pro-America and pro-Constitution this next election, we are doomed.

You libs should read up on the past commie regimes and learn what communists do when they are done using you. That is why you are known as “useful idiots”. What is really disturbing is that this commie, socialist propaganda is being taught to your 6 year old in the public schools. (Public schools are part of the 10 planks of the communist manifesto)

But that is ok. When we are paying 5.00 – 7.00 a gallon and the libs are getting angry we can tell them who caused it. Not drilling here in national suicide. It will cause higher prices for everything, as well as higher unemployment and that will cause more foreclosures and also cause government to give out more welfare. That means more direct control of more Americans lives.

I think you are wrong and that drilling here will bring down the price… BUT lets just say you are correct for the argument. By drilling here the foreign dictators can’t cut us off. As for speculators, if your retirement fund has oil in its portfolio, YOU are speculating too. By drilling here, there will be less speculating on if there will be an oil supply in the future. If you had a clean legal water well in your back yard would you still buy water from the city? I don’t think so. It’s time to stop being dependent on foreigners for our lives.
