WASHINGTON (AP) — German automaker BMW AG is issuing recalls involving about 150,000 luxury vehicles to fix faulty fuel pumps that could cause vehicles to lose power.
One recall involves 130,000 vehicles, including the 2007-2010 335i; 2008-2010 135i, 535i and X6 xDrive35i Sports Activity Coupe; and 2009-2010 Z4 Roadster sDrive35i.
They have twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engines featuring BMW’s direct fuel injection system. The company will replace high-pressure fuel pump and update software.
BMW recalled 20,800 2008 X5 Sports Activity Vehicles with inline six-cylinder engines to replace the low-pressure fuel pump. BMW said there have been no reports of accidents or injuries.
An ABC News investigation raised questions about the fuel pumps on Tuesday.
Editor’s note:
TV Newser tells the story behind the story:
How is this a TVNewser story, you ask? Because the tip came in the old fashioned way, to a TV reporter who was recognized by a woman on the street as she was on her way to Starbucks.
“It was the viewers who brought this to my attention,” ABC News anchor/reporter Chris Cuomo tells TVNewser. “I was literally walking down the street when a woman approached me on her way to get coffee to complain about her faulty BMW.”
Here is Cuomo’s report:

Posted on October 28, 2010 at 11:56pmFUD! It’s so irritating when a news program jumps to portray a perfectly legit business as horse-blinded to consumer safety like this. Limp-mode is a common feature on most, probably all modern cars. In limp mode the engine computer resorts to fail-safe engine regulation when sensors go faulty or indicate a problem. In the case of a faulty fuel pump on a turbo-charged car, this likely prevents engine detonation in the case that the fuel pump cant provide enough fuel for combustion. Less fuel pressure gives to a lean mixture gives to a stoichiometric mixture gives to engine detonation! Pistons flying! This is a safety feature, there’s nothing unsafe about limp-mode, it just kills the cars horsepower.
It is however crummy that BMW is building cars with fuel pumps that give out.

Posted on October 28, 2010 at 3:01pmThe first BMW problem i’ve ever heard of. I hope it doesn’t foreshadow things to come. It would be awful for such a great company to start having problems.

Posted on October 28, 2010 at 11:08amCould it be that there is a connection between the Toyota and BMW bashing in that both makers are NON-UNION shops? WH and SEIU don’t like that kind.

Posted on October 28, 2010 at 5:26amAwesome. Sometimes it pays to complain, even if it’s to a reporter.
Glock45 Barack Obama aka Barry Soetoro has another alias as well. Soebarkah. Apparently his mother, Stanley Ann Dunham has him put on her passport as Barry Soebarkah and then when she was a applying for a green card for her husband, Lolo Soetoro, and her son Barack Obama she had Barry Soebarkah taken off her passport.
If you are interested in knowing something else about Barack Obama read Larry Sinclair’s book “Barack Obama and Larry Sinclair, Cocaine, Sex, Lies & Murder?” Larry Sinclair said he had two laisons with Barack Obama where they did cocaine together, among other things. It took him over a year to write the book and during that time I followed his detailed daily blogs where he was harrassed and threatened by the Obots on a daily basis and his publishing company had to back off because they were threatened with all kinds of things. In the end he had to start his own publishing company, Sinclair Publishing, Inc. to get it published. He kept his promise and sent me the signed book dated 8/25/09. He never changed his story, and he was honest about his previous sordid life of doing drugs and whatnot. The story is so detailed that it would have been impossible to make it all up. He said he wrote the book in memory of Donald Young, the choir director at G-d-damn-America Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s Trinity Church. Barack Obama had had a long-time affair with Donald Young and he had attempted to contact Larry Sinclair just before he was found murdered in his apartment on December 23, 2007. Donald Young’s murder was never investigated, let alone solved.

Posted on October 28, 2010 at 1:25amThat’s cool. Sounds like the reporter takes his job seriously.
This comment does not necessarily reflect the views of Glenn Beck, The Blaze, theblaze.com, Fox News or anyone else for that matter. The fat clown anchor at MSNBC can suck it.
Obama is now burning books like the Nazis did.

You can find numerous reports of the story if you don’t believe the video. Just because you are a loon who cannot accept the truth does not mean it is not, in fact, the truth.

Posted on October 28, 2010 at 1:22amI guess now the BMW can stand for Barely Moving & Working? Notice how so many “great cars” are suddenly found to have so many problems and covered up? One good guess as to the main reason for this – Can you say Mega-Lawsuit if anything happens.
Be honest up front with problems of this magnitude; also does anyone want to figure if congress is to demand an investigation of BMW as they did with Toyota?
