How Did the Israeli Media Cover Beck‘s ’Restoring Courage’ Event?

How Did the Israeli Media Cover Becks Restoring Courage Event?

Below is a brief overview of some of the coverage major news outlets in Israel have given to Glenn’s Restoring Courage event this week:

Ynet News reports that Glenn attracted more than 1,000 supporters, mostly Evangelical Christians from the U.S., at the Davidson Center near the Western Wall in Jerusalem.

They don’t explain that attendance was restricted in the Davidson Center.  Our ticket count there was 1,600 and there were 3,000 more gathered at the alternate viewing site at Safra Square.

Ynet’s article did focus on the leftist activists gathered outside to protest against Beck.

The protestors confronted Knesset Member Anastassia Michaeli (Yisrael Beiteinu) who was on her way inside to attend the rally.

The protestors followed her while calling out “racist” and “fascist”. When she realized they would not stop, she walked up to them and tried to explain her opinions. At that point a heated debate ensued. The protestors claim that MK Michaeli also made harsh statements. Michaeli’s spokesmen noted that the protestors spoke to her aggressively but did not get physical.

How Did the Israeli Media Cover Becks Restoring Courage Event?

Ynet’s Hebrew language site also focused on the Knesset member’s confrontation with Peace Now.  It took them eight paragraphs to begin talking about the event itself.  But they did devote a whopping two paragraphs then covering the event.

How Did the Israeli Media Cover Becks Restoring Courage Event?

Ma’ariv, also a Hebrew language site, touched on the rally itself, then referenced some of the protesters that were there, including the verbal scuffle between the Knesset member and Peace Now.

How Did the Israeli Media Cover Becks Restoring Courage Event?

Israel’s Channel 2 news began their report “The extremist American broadcaster Glenn Beck …” so you get a sense of how that report went.

Channel 1 news (IBA) reported that American broadcaster, Glenn Beck, gathered people together in a ceremony to support Israel. The report does mention that Glenn’s audience comprise Christians and American Jews but, unlike other reports, does not state that practically all of the participants are Evangelicals. Channel 1 was also the only outlet to mention the many “viewing parties” that were held to watch the events unfold.

Then, a less than flattering Associated Press piece stated: ”The conservative commentator has won fans among Israel’s far-right with his unabashedly pro-Israel, anti-Muslim rhetoric, and 2,000 people turned out to hear him speak next to the compound known to Jews as the Temple Mount and to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary.”

The rest of AP the article focused mainly on criticism of Glenn’s support for Israel and a rehash of past statements.  And highlighted the 1,200 Facebook fans of the Peace Now protest group.  It failed to mention that Restoring Courage has 32,000 fans on Facebook.

All in all, a mixed media exists in Israel, just as it does here in the U.S.

I’d be interested to hear/read, how supporters of Beck would describe religious cults to me. What are the characteristics of cults as you understand them, and what would a cult leader appear like?

Yes, mormonism is a cult. What has that got to do with the fact that the world is turning against Israel, and we are seeing the stage being set for the fulfillment of prophecy (Psalm 83 and Ezekiel 38 & 39, to name a few)?

      Cult
      From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article gives a general cultural account of “cult”. For its usage in the original sense of “veneration” or “religious practice”, see Cult (religious practice). For its use in a scientific, sociological context see New Religious Movement. For other uses, see Cult (disambiguation).

The word cult pejoratively refers to a group whose beliefs or practices are considered abnormal or bizarre.[1] The word originally denoted a system of ritual practices. The narrower, derogatory sense of the word is a product of the 20th century, especially since the 1980s, and is considered subjective.[by whom?] It is also a result of the anti-cult movement which uses the word in reference to groups seen as authoritarian, exploitative and that are believed to use dangerous rituals or mind control. The word implies a group which is a minority in a given society. The word was first used in the early 17th century denoting homage paid to a divinity and derived from French culte or Latin cultus ‘worship,’ from cult- ‘inhabited, cultivated, worshiped,’ from the verb colere ‘care, cultivation’.[citation needed]

The popular, derogatory sense of the word has no currency in academic studies of religions, where “cults” are subsumed under the neutral label of the “new religious movement”, while academic sociology has partly adopted the popular meaning of the word.[2][3][4]

Charles Manson and David Koresh are good example of Cult

How about a group of people who believe in their cause so fervently, they’d do anything to force their opinion upon others? That might be a cult. A group so convinced of their righteousness, they’d seek to shut down any discussion of differing ideas in the public forum.

      Sound familiar? It should.

A cult leader? Someone who writes books or stands up and preaches that same belief to silence others who have disenting beliefs.

Does that describe Glenn Beck, or is that a better description of the Atheist Movement?

BH – I live in the “rest of the world”, and believe me, no one is trying to take down Israel. There are Muslim extremists that would, but then there are also Zionists in this world. Fair minded people just want Israel to stop the illegal occupation of Palestine. I promise you, read some European newspapers online, and then really think about it.

All this stuff that Beck comes out with is just bizarre, and bears no relation to the political workings of the rest of the world.

How about this – take a week off from reading/listening/watching Beck, and find some European news to read. You’ll then realise just how absurd this “everyone wants to kill Israel” stuff is. Europe still remembers the massacre of a people, and we still have the bullet holes in our buildings and restructured cities to prove it.

I speak to you with only concern, Becks rantings dressed as love bear no resemblance to reality.

I’m really confused. Are you accusing me of wishing to shut down debate? Because I’ve come to a pretty stupid place (a right wing blog), to try and start that movement. You really have no concept of how warped your minds have become, do you? I have no stake in America, but the constant Rush/Fox/Beck brain washing is certainly a characteristic of cults.

I’ve come hear to engage, and maybe hold a mirror up to the absurd detachment from reality that this blog espouses.

Do you even know what a Zionist is, or is it just a label you use to dehumanize your opponents?

When the Syrians in Judea and Samaria stop attacking Israel, I expect Israel to leave them alone. If that doesn’t happen, I’ll join you in criticizing Israel. Until that happens, you’re demonstrating your willingness to be a tool of Muslim Extremists.

By the way, I live in “the rest of the world”, too. Man. Get a clue before you post.

If you would just listen to the man’s own words, instead of ingesting the spoon-fed garbage others regurgitate for you, you’d know what he represents. As someone who has the internet, I regularly read “European news sources”. In fact, if you read the AP, you’re constantly reading European news sources. Most of the stories and raw footage for our news networks comes from foreign journolists.

Seriously man, take your own advice and try getting some differing opinions. Also, try having an ounce of decency and change your username to something that doesn’t kowingly offend most of the other commenters.

You can’t see the hypocrisy you spew? You want us to listen to you, but you come in with a username intended to torque everyone off? Man alive the stupid is painful.

You’re right. It’s a really stupid waste of your time to come here to shut down debate. Conservatives love to debate ideas. Of course, we expect you to back up your assertions with facts and logic.

When Liberals say “debate”, what they mean is “I get to rant, and you nod your head”.

Now we’re changing the subject with more ad hominem attacks. First it’s “Beck”, and now it’s Rush and Fox News. Now, we’re being “brainwashed”. Yeah, I can’t think for myself. That’s why I turn on the T.V. and tune in to the show I want to wash, because I can’t control myself. I’m a mindles zombie.

No, I’m not. I just don’t agree with you.

Im sorry but you are Completely Wrong! Mormonism is NOT polytheistic. They believe in the trinity God The Father, God The Son and God The Holy Spirit, wherein God is God The Alpha and Omega, God Ordained and worked through and in his son Jesus to be our example, teacher and savior, God blesses and makes his presence (spirit) strong with people who live the teachings and examples of love and charity taught by Christ. This is not three gods, but three aspects of the one true God. Tired of hearing that polytheistic nonsense. Invite one of those door knockers in sometime, talk to them. you dont have to convert, just as you dont have to be ignorant. Mormons are Christians that believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God period. Now you say “OH OH but Joseph Smith wasnt perfect he did this that and the other thing” Yes well ‘ALL haved sinned and ALL fall short of the glory of God’ . Moses was a murderer, Solomon murderer/adulterer, Saul murderer/blasphemer, Matthew/tax collector etc. Since youre not a Christian, its doubtful you’ll be willing to actually spend sometime studying this, you know so you’d actually know what youre talking about, but hey if I ever need advice on how to troll a forum with inane unsubstantiated liberal talking points you’re definitely my girl.

I’m so tired of hearing that Mormonism is polytheist. Mormons worship one God, who is the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. These three individuals rule as One (Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord!). The God of Israel is the Creator of the universe and there is no competing god, such as those that the nations have tried to uphold in the past, and there never will be. Either we worship the only God that is God, or we turn to idolatry in some form.

The reason that anti-LDS activists insist on defining Mormonism as polytheistic has nothing to do with this world, but stems from the fact that Mormons insist on believing the Bible. The Bible teaches that Christians will be exalted: It teaches that they will become immortal, sinless, beings who are privileged to partake of the divine nature of God and sit with him in his throne, to rule the nations.

      Geessh! Enough already!

“To acknowledge the scriptural evidence that otherwise perfectly united members of the Godhead are nevertheless separate and distinct beings is not to be guilty of polytheism; it is, rather, part of the great revelation Jesus came to deliver concerning the nature of divine beings. Perhaps the Apostle Paul said it best: ‘Christ Jesus … being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God.’” -Jeffrey Holland

Mormonism does not have the holy trinity, the Christian faiths do. In the Christian faith God is not an alien and Jesus and Lucifer are not brothers, in Mormonism God is an alien from the planet Kolob or are the writings of Joe Smith false.

No where is the Bible is the Holy Trinity found. It is the human way of seeing that One God is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. When Jesus was baptized there was also the Holy Spirit in the form of a Dove and the voice of God from the heavens says “ This is my beloved Son” also to be taken as three separate beings.

What you have is a difference in Theology by all Churches as far as stating one or the other is Christian or non Christian from those beliefs is only mans view and perception of such.

Men have the right to believe and practice religion anyway they want. It is not for man to judge anothers belief. So until we individually find out on the day we die whether our faith and beliefs have been validated, we ought to respect each others right to believe what we may. And unless we are causing harm to people like Charles Manson, David Koresh, Hitler and the likes, accusing different religions of all sorts or ridiculous things, we should quit judging other religions for the Theological differences we have with them.

Put your energy into saving America from evil.

As far as O’Reilly, although the middle of the road thing bothers me somewhat, it is the constant interrupting of the guests he has on the show that really drives me crazy. Yes you have to move the discussion in the direction you want but my goodness, let the people talk otherwise you simply look like a bully.

I live in Israel for 31 years (originally from the States) and I view myself as a political pragmatist. I and most of friends and acquaintenances are very grateful to Beck for his unflinching support of Israel. His sincere and moving identification with our plight is a breath of fresh air in a hypocritical world of multiculturlaist leftist ideologues who give a pass to the mysoginist, anti-semitic, anti-Chrisitian islamo-fascist mainstream in the Arab world and even in Europe and campusses in the USA, alligned with a radical socialist vociferous minority which hates America, Israel and the values of freedom without compromises. Beck and his family and friends and supporters are welcome friends and guests in my adopted country and I would be honored to host him in my home in Jeruslame anytime. Thanks and G-d bless you and the USA and Israel.

JPMORGAN: Well said!! I have also noticed that Fox acts like Beck is dead! I’ve not heard him mentioned once! And I refuse to watch the five…I hate all the arguing that goes on when the left is WRONG. Fair and balanced? or should it be Right and Wrong! I’ve lived a long time..my whole life in freedom, now watching it slip through our fingers….I will stand to keep the freedom we have left for my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren! I stand with Israel! I too know God’s chosen people are right where they are supposed to be!

To those people I say, if you don’t like Israel, then move to neighboring country, especially the women. I hear burkas are just lovely this time of the year.

I don’t care any more about how the media covered anything. I mean, FOX, as far as I saw, showed nothing of this event…what up with that?!? As for Glenn: quit worrying about the media. They are proving themselves over and over to be shills. Just go do your thing – we might be small, but we’re mighty :D And just so y’all know: I’m an Independent; I don‘t ’believe’ in evolution as I see it as fact; I DO believe in God AND science (IMHO, just two sides of the same, wonderful coin); I don’t own a gun, but I do own a Bible (that I don’t “cling to” because it’s in my heart).

I wonder if Fox would have covered the event if Beck was still working there? My guess would yes.
If there wasnt GBTV there would have been no coverage. I gave up on Fox years ago. They only appear conservative given the competitors are so far left.
When its over the whole thing will have never happened in the eyes of the media.

There was probably no coverage on other channels precisely because of GBTV. GBTV would have had exclusive rights to this event. Glenn wouldn’t have wanted MSNBC trying to get in there and skew the viewpoint of the whole event.

Coming from Glen’s attitude. We have the power…over the media…and the Big Business that controls us…..If we stop using the media they cannot get their point accross…..if we stop buying all the products from the Big Businesses, thats’ products leave a “Garbage Footprint” I’m sorry…should that be “Carbon Footprint?”…………they will eventually not be able to keep controlling us! After all the media runs by ratings and the big business by our money.

I was at the Safra square and could not believe the coverage, I should not be surprised but still…I guess the question is how do you get through to these people? A friend of mine who was there with me could not understand why Glenn was preaching to the quire and I told her that although it was obvious to us this is the truh its not obvious to the Left in Israel or uninformed people anywhere. The problem is how do you get to the uninformed (I guess those on the left can not hear us cuse they are too filled w hate) how do spread the word when so many media outlet distort it. I guess the answer is what Beck said to us yesterday, be willing to risk much in order to voice the TRUTH despite the majority thinks otherwise, voice it proudly for it is your duty not to be afraid but to have COURAGE.

Glenn needs to understand that the Israeli media is extreme left. Ch.1 is paid by the tax payers therefore they almost never give opinions; they state the facts and move on for the most part. Ch 2 was the hottest thing since sliced bread in the 80′s because it was a private channel that did whatever it wanted. If you really want to know what Ch 2 is, think MTV meets MSNBC.

I was born in Israel and move here and became a citizen. I can assure you that if you want news from Israel, over 95% of the media is extreme left and report mostly opinion. Just like in the u.s., if you read the MSM all you can trust is where and when and sometime who but that is it.

I felt sad watching Glenn today, seeing a none Jew more proud of the Jewish people than the Jewish people are of themselves.

It was very fitting that Glenn spoke of Moses today. When Moses came to the Jewish people they too question him and his motives. Even after Moses performed the miracles from G-d they still question him integrity. I guess after 3000 years we still don’t know what good for us.

Thank you Glenn for all your help, love, devotion, and courage.

G-d bless you and your love ones

@Stand; Please don’t be afraid to spell God. Being PC just has no part in the new world. We need to STAND and NOT be ashamed or afraid. You are right, Moses proclaimed the truth and the people of Israel heard him for a few minutes, but then fell back into sin. We are ALL that way. When we are honest with ourselves, we know truth when we hear it. We need an example of Courage and we need to learn how to display courage in the face of evil. Glenn has been a good example of both. May God Bless him and his team and keep them safe wherever they travel.

It’s a respect thing, not to take His Name in vain. They don’t fully spell it. For us in the English speaking world, it seems silly because “god” is a generic word; capitalize it, it implies the Jew’s deity, yet I‘ve seen it used to refer to Islam’s as well. So, the Orthodox use the term HaShem (The Name), the One I bow to and worship as THE G-D!

OT, but a lot of people watching at our local viewing party are completely confused about how to stream GBTV onto their TV. They don’t get what hardware is needed, whether their computers and TV’s can do it, etc. This will really hurt viewership for the new fall launch unless GBTV can address this ASAP. They were just so glad we presented it so they could see it on a big screen instead of their laptops.

To get GBTV on your TV you will need a Roku Box. You can goto http://www.Roku.com to get one. Or most new Laptops have an HDMI out port. Just plug your TV into your laptop with an HDMI cable. then what ever is on your computer is on the TV.

It would be helpful if someone from GBTV made a video tutorial on how to get GBTV set up on your computer and/or TV through ROKU. Something like what Dish TV does to teach people how to use their stuff.

Go to GBTV.com/israel and there are 3 types of cable setups you can use from computer to TV. My computer did not have an HDMI connection so I used an “S” video cable and purchased a separate audio cable for $15 from Radio Shack. You can also use the 3 colored RCA jacks which gives you audio and video. “S” video does not provide audio. Go to the website and there are pictures that show you all of the options. Just match the ones that you have on both your computer and TV. You will need a wireless or hard wired connection with Roku, but it is great. Go to Roku.com

It will take something drastic to wake people up to the fact that evil doesn’t respond to pacifism. Those who believe they can pacify the Muslims by appeasing them are sadly mistaken. Leftists are the pacifists and cowards. Those protesting against the Restoring Courage rally, are the “useful idiots, and ought to be pitied. They haven’t escaped harm. They have us beat on border security and airport security, though!! Of course, we don’t have rockets coming at us everyday…so guess we can just ignore our borders….our laws too, apparently.
