How Much Did the Family Behind the Viral ‘Charlie Bit Me’ Video Make?

Your home videos posted on YouTube, if funny enough, could be making your family some major dough. The 2007 YouTube sensation “Charlie Bit Me” — which was filmed for the boy’s American godfather  –  not only racked up more than 386 million views but it earned £100,000 ($158,560) in ad revenue.

But the video of the lovable biter Charlie Davies-Carr isn’t the only one making it big. According to Daily Mail, YouTube says there are hundreds of families making six-figures off of their home-grown video creations:

The film, and other videos [the boys' father Howard] Davies-Carr has uploaded, have earned the family more than £100,000 through a ‘partnership’ with the website. The company monitors all uploads and if it believes a video will go viral, it contacts the person who posted it. 

Revenue from ads placed around the clip is then shared between the site and the film’s creator.

Mr Davies-Carr, 42, and his wife Shelley plan to put the money towards school fees for their children.

    Google has paid me around $500 so far on this “how to” video that I made and posted 3 yrs ago. I’m happy that it helps people. And, I like the fact that Google and I both benefit.     This is why I rarely click on any Youtube video that is “family related” especially if I can see they made a slew of videos. I pass. Let them get a job other than making stupid videos.

    It is the same reason I refuse to watch those dumb family shows like Sister Wives, Jon Kate plus 8 and the worst of the lot – 19 kids and counting which depicts a moron mother with an IQ of one she passed onto her eldest son and most of her children.

    Whether on Youtube like this family or on TV – they are all in it for the money and I refuse to participate in making them money.

      Yes drugs are bad, but if you don’t let people find that out for themselves they never will. I know analogy is a false form of logic but bare with me. Kittens(yes kittens) make approximately 40 distinct vocalizations. Full grown house cats make about 30. Full grown feral cats that have never been house cats, only make about 8. Why the difference? Because the house cat, even though its full grown never actually matures beyond adolescence.The feral cat reaches its full adult potential because it has to. No choice. Our nanny state creates the same thing. Look at how many 40-50 somethings collect toys from their youth. Something my Grandfather, born in 1893 would have scoffed at.We have created a perpetual class of adolescencents because they are never required to make the tough decisions.They are never exposed to the dangers that are supposed to come part and parcel with life. Let them do drugs. The smart ones will control it or eshew it all togther. The dumb ones will remove themselves from the gene pool.

    I need to teach Glenn Beck something. The Holy Bible is a consolidation of many, many books. At the End of the Book of Revelation it says (in the Book of Revelation)22:18 “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of prophecy of this book. If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book. And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the Holy city and from the things which are written in this book.”

    Moreover, that commandment only applies to the Book of Revelation.

    Just remember Glenn, you sought out me, because one of your brothers asked me a few years ago, “Have you ever heard of Glenn Beck?” Of course it’s a brother you only know in spirit.

      See it’s actually you who are dangerous with having a gun, and I know that just as much as I know it’s the psychologist whom is messed up in the head more than the patient. For example I went to a marriage counselor (and this is an example of most because I lived a long life), because my marriage to the people really stinks (of course I thought it was my actual wife, but it’s society that stinks). And while I looked into the room after I went to the bathroom, the marriage counselor was sitting their pulling out her hair, and counting the books on her shelf over and over again.
