Huckabee: ‘Anyone Who Thinks America is Still a Christian Nation is Smoking Something and It’s Probably Not Legal’

Video follows below.
After social conservative Rick Santorum was booed during a campaign stop in New Hampshire over his stance on same-sex marriage, former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee appeared on “Your World” with Neil Cavuto to bring some much needed perspective to the equation. In a nutshell? Huckabee asserts that America is no longer the Christian nation it once was, thus Santorum‘s chilly reception by young’uns on the campaign trail comes as no surprise. Moreover, according to Huckabee, anyone who thinks America is still a Christian nation is “smoking something” and that something is “probably illegal.”
Huckabee explained that the booing incident is merely a reflection of the new American mindset, saying, “If you take a strong Orthodox Christian stand, you have to understand we are in a post-Christian America. It’s painful to say that, but anyone who thinks this is a Christian nation anymore is smoking something and it’s probably not legal.”
Huckabee continued, “For the past 20 years, we’ve clearly drifted away from what I would consider Leave It to Beaver to Beavis and Butthead. We’ve gone from Father Knows Best to Father Knows Nothing.”
In the end, Huckabee astutely observed, “The truth is the people who were booing Rick Santorum weren’t going to vote for Rick Santorum anyway.”
Watch the interview below and weigh in with your thoughts. Has Christianity become a completely foreign concept in modern American society?

It is true that no particular brand of Christianity was established as a state religion like the Church of England but the basis for the Constitution and the people it would serve was Christianity. Take a look at the Federalist Papers and take a look at some of the wording in the Constitution and you will see Christianity.

Posted on January 6, 2012 at 9:37pmThe reason Jefferson mentioned the need for Separation of Church and State, was because many established Religions (Episcopalians, Methodists, Quakers, etc.) feared that the newly created federal Government would dictate and enact National creeds or doctrines for their Congregations, very much resembling Great Britain and its Church of England. Jefferson and many Clergymen further feared an ecclesiastical dictatorship, very much like that of the Holy Roman Empire, wherein Religious liberty was restricted, and Religion in general was harshly governed by the State.
I believe that Government should not be administered by Religion (Churches and religious institutions) and that Religion (however practiced) should not be regulated by Government. Rather, that State officials (elected Citizens) should be inspired and guided through Religion and morality, to be better able to govern and lead a free people, not to arbitrarily rule over them but to humbly serve them, under Just and enumerated Powers.

America was established by Protestant Christians, NOT Catholics, NOT Jews, NOT Muslims or anything else.

Posted on January 6, 2012 at 10:02pmPatrick Henry II you said “Is it worth fighting for?”
In EVERY generation that came before us each community had to decide how much corruption and evil they would put up with before trying to change it. Our nation was built by men who were feeling the same oppression that many of the earths nations feel today. They decided that LIBERTY AND FREEDOM WAS WORTH FIGHTING FOR and losing their fortunes, life, families, home, farms and livestock over.
To change the course now would be to tarnish their sacrifices and would be the action of a selfish coward!
But the truth is that the world is led by the dark forces of the Lucifarian type and if the good do not stand up against them then evil wins!

The use of Nation consist of both the People and the Government. Though the Government (a political institution) be not Christian, the People certainly are, and have, by far, influenced our form of Government the most. This religion and morality of the People was heavily reflected upon or adhered to by the actions and administration of our Government, who took its precepts and principles into serious consideration. Which led many Court decisions and political figures to proclaim this a Christian Nation. It cannot be denied that through all our history here in America, the People have been made up of an over whelming majority of Protestant Christians, and it is through their Faith and piety that we were best able to establish the greatest and most prosperous Nation to ever have existed in the whole history of the world.

Posted on January 7, 2012 at 9:13amWhat’s done is done. America made its choices via its representatives. And we have been sold.
Americans as a nation don’t have the will to “fight” any longer. We don’t even consider our selves “Americans” these days. We are every manor of hyphenated sub culture. But definitely not, American.
The reasons why and the real root of the problem is likely debatable to a degree. But that, too, is useless.
Yeah, sure we have young men and women who are ‘willing’ to fight and DO put themselves in the position to fight for their country. Their motivations are as varied as the people themselves. But in the end it “IS” for our country.
I don’t want to go into that any further here. The real point is that as GB has stated many times; America “IS” an idea. And for it to work the people who live here have to embrace the idea. Or enough have to that it works still. And those numbers are declining every day. Thanks to a government itself that no longer believes in the idea of America.
If you do ‘believe’ in the idea and live it, you are an American. No matter where you are. The freedoms and liberties once associated with being able to actually LIVE here provided an extra incentive. And our society was the better for it.
Government is turning off the gas on that flame. And it is slowly being extinguished. On purpose. And even that purpose is debatable. But that isn’t important. Only the fact that it “IS” happening.

Posted on January 7, 2012 at 10:41amLots of interesting thoughts:
Huckster is endorsing the establishment Romney. He derailed Romney when McCain was the establishment’s planned candidate. I am sure now that it was part of the plan. Why? Because every since the establishment GOP got “stuck” with Ronald Reagan (who the establishment still hates to this day) there has been a well contribed strategy to stop that from happening again. To stop this we will have to have community leaders like Limbaugh, Beck, Savage, Richard Land, Teaparty and others get together and counter this even endorsing in a plotted way in order to defeat the Ologarchy establishment GOP. Of course these other grups can just as easily become corrupt.
Is it worth fighting for? If we do it smart it is. Eventually it will come down to some very very extreme courage. The Tree of Liberty will again have to be watered. Period. This is now unavoidable if Liberty is to prevail. It is too late for the other as eventually happens in all societies. Although we must do our civic duty and civic triangulation. We need leaders, insiders and patriots.

Me: Do you go to church?
Them: Yes – We are (denomination)
Me: Say I’ve heard good things about this church – what is the head pastor’s (or appropriate title) name – I forget?
Them: ……crickets…..

Posted on January 7, 2012 at 11:47pmGrace is misunderstood by people of all religions, but truly it is quite simple. Faith without works is dead. Yet works“ justifieth a man not at all”.
Report Post »In Mosaic law, a man or woman might obey all of God’s laws (which were often the laws of “government”, as well), and expect that mere obedience to those laws set out by the ancient prophets, including those that foreshadowed the atonement of Christ (ie..animal sacrifice), would guarantee them a good standing with God, the Father. Christ and his apostles taught that mere obedience to the laws (which were punishable by and through the laws of their “government”) would not guarantee a man or woman eternal life.Only through faith in Jesus Christ, God’s Son, and his atoning sacrifice would a person be saved. It was necessary to teach these things to the early Christians so that they would understand that Jesus, through his infinite atoning sacrifice, had fulfilled Mosaic law. Jews and others who accepted Christ needed to go from being outwardly motivated to do the right thing, to being inwardly motivated to follow Christ’s teachings and believe/accept that his blood (rather than that of animal sacrifice, as was laid out in the Old Testament) would now be an infinite and eternal sacrifice and that their only sacrifice should be repentance of their sins. Faith in Christ is shown through our repentance (our works), but those works alone cannot justify us. Neither can we be justified without them – to some degree.

But should the people of America once become capable of that deep simulation towards one another, and towards foreign nations, which assumes the language of justice and moderation, while it is practising iniquity and extravagance, and displays in the most captivating manner the charming pictures of candour, frankness, and sincerity, while it is rioting in rapine and insolence, this country will be the most miserable habitation in the world. Because we have no government, armed with power, capable of contending with human passions, unbridled by morality and religion. This isn’t actually true. I have seen probably all of the Leave It to Beaver episodes and there are at least a few where the family is just getting ready to leave or just arriving back from church. There are also at least one or two where God is explicitly mentioned and talked about. Can’t remember if there are any where they are praying, but it wouldn’t surprise me. Little House does have more scenes involving church and God, though, but they weren’t absent in LITB. I’d hardly call the show “progressive” considering its overall morality.

Posted on January 6, 2012 at 7:54pm@Mike Benton. Your post is quite accurate. The founding fathers all said, this system of self government would only work if we remained a virtuous group of folks. They all did not agree on what religious belief to follow, but, they were mostly all Christians of some ilk. Benamin Franklin even told one person about the constitution. It’s a Republic. We’ll see if you can keep it. I think that was absolutely correct. Based on maintaining virtue. I think that is what made America so strong and how we could have possibly overcame WWII. God was on our side back then. The country was mostly church going. Progressives have taken it out of our country over the last 100 years. The moral decline is here. It happens to every society who takes God out of the equation.

Religious Doctrine belongs in your place of worship not in my living room as a law or regulation.
Santorum Love the constitution only in so far as it is in-line with the Bible, The constitution does not allow for the federal government to have any say in marriage, Drugs, or a whole host of other “conservative” issues, but Santorum will happily ignore the constitution to enforce his morality/religion on the population, This is not different than Liberals that want to ignore the constitution on Guns, or even Legalising Drugs (that is 100% a state issue, to make them legal or illegal)
People need to separate their PERSONAL VIEWS or Religion from public Policy, Santorum can not do that, and is therefore unacceptable as a leader.

This country’s success is a direct result of that foundation, Christian leadership and obviously the hand of God.
I do NOT want our next president to be anything less then Christian. If Rick is a Christian a true one and not a pretender he is who I would prefer. All the others may be Christian and true ones but two are big government progressives and the other is a loon.
I do not understand how Christians today can say that a president has to check his faith at the door or he does not qualify. If you think Santorum will reduce government at all, your in for a very big disappointment. Very big in deed.
I don’t know who Tomas Jefferson is but your talking about Thomas Jefferson, he believe in the moral philosophy of Christianity but rejected the church.
Here is a few Quotes from Jefferson to Chew on
“Where the preamble declares, that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed by inserting “Jesus Christ,“ so that it would read ”A departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion;” the insertion was rejected by the great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mohammedan, the Hindoo and Infidel of every denomination.”
-Thomas Jefferson, Autobiography,
“I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent.”
-Thomas Jefferson, March 13, 1789
In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own.
-Thomas Jefferson, , March 17, 1814
Jefferson was spiritual but not a fan of Organised Religion

The President, upon his inauguration, is the President of ALL Americans — not just the Christian ones. He MUST, OF NECESSITY, keep his religious preferences apart from his public policy.
This is not to say that he cannot be INFORMED by his religious beliefs — I‘m sure you’d agree that Jesus Christ would have abhorred torture, for instance, so a President who is devoutly Christian should likewise be four-square against that practice.
But, if you look at Rick Santorum, you’ll see a man who supports torture.
That is for starters.
Santorum is NOT a devout Christian. He is NOT a small-government believer. He is NOT a conservative. He is a misguided theocrat, and a progressive, to boot.

While I believe the People must be religious and moral, I don’t think any Government can even with every Power conceivable impose any such morality or religious behavior by law and force, and expect adherence and change by the people. Religion and morality must first come from the people, not Government.
“The religion which has introduced civil liberty is the religion of Christ and His apostles, which enjoins humility, piety, and benevolence; which acknowledges in every person a brother, or a sister, and a citizen with equal rights. This is genuine Christianity, and to this we owe our free Constitutions of Government.” – Noah Webster
Santorum, while a noble American and pious Christian in his pursuit to adhere to the Word of God, will impose his interpretation or his sense of morality through law and expect obedience by Governmental force. That is Progressivism.
“That religion, or the duty which we owe to our Creator, and the manner of discharging it, can be directed only by reason and conviction, not by force or violence; and therefore all men are equally entitled to the free exercise of religion, according to the dictates of conscience; and that it is the mutual duty of all to practice Christian forbearance, love, and charity toward each other.” – VA Declaration of Rights 1776

Report Post »People must either govern themselves or be governed by someone else. I realized that as a 5th grader studying history. I thought to myself, “How can our form of government work when other countries had to be run by a monarchy or some type of dictator-someone who usually made choices for their own good and not for the good of the people? So our form of government is run by the people and what’s to keep it from making the same selfish choices as a king or tyrant?” And right away the answer popped into my little brain. “Only if the people are unselfish, giving, wanting to follow what is right, will they make the right choices for themselves and their fellow countrymen. And that sense of right comes from following God.” Almost 45 years later, I still remember that idea and see it played out every day in this country. As man has turned from God and good, man has begun making selfish, greedy, wicked decisions that is ruining our country and the people of our country. Of course Santorum will not be elected! Because he doesn’t represent the majority of people in this country, who are selfish, greedy, and wicked. That is why Obama was elected. Because he is all of the above! I was not surprised when he was elected. After all, the president is the “representative of the people”. So, people, look to yourself for the necessary change!

Posted on January 6, 2012 at 9:53pm@Favored93 That’s my position too. I was referring to Santorum’s previous actions and sponsored bills, while in Office, which though well intended, do have signs of Progressivism.
I believe that the reason our founding fathers established a free society was so that the people may freely govern themselves by religion and morality. They were escaping the rule in Europe which was heavily run by Ecclisastical laws and greatly influenced by Religious institutions. We certainly must though elect public servants who acknowledge Almighty God and posses a Christian character.
As members were signing the Declaration of Independence, Samuel Adams, the father of the Revolution, said, “We have this day restored the Sovereign to Whom all men ought to be obedient. He reigns in heaven and from the rising to the setting of the sun, let His kingdom come.” After the public reading of the Declaration of Independence, Samuel Adams noted, “The people, I am told, recognize the resolution as though it were a decree promulgated from heaven.”
When these united States of America declared their separation from Great Britain, they proclaimed to the world the power to freely Govern themselves, independent of all foreign powers and forces, save by God, whom they appealed to as the highest authority. A godly society can only be achieved when voluntarily enforced by a religious and moral people.
I’m saying this against you. I’m just sharing what I believe and information I have.

If I believe that killing a human is wrong and therefore there should be a law against it, I CANNOT vote for a law that allows killing of humans! If you believe that killing is perfectly acceptable due to your lack of faith in a moral objective, you would probably chose to vote so that no law against killing of a human could be inacted.
I will work hard to not put my beliefs in your face, but you will need to do the same with your lack of belief! However, our forefathers understood that to live in a situation were there were not morals, was worse than living under someone else’s morals that at least used common sense and a belief in a God.

Posted on January 6, 2012 at 8:54pmThis has been a Christian Nation in the sense that the People were Christian, and therefore their Government reflected, through influence, the morality and religion of the People. Our Government or its Administration is and has not been Christian, and that is to say, it has never dictated by law or force any sort of Religion, creed or doctrine to the People. This was done in some colonies prior to our Nation, but was never adapted at a federal or national level.
In 1854 the House Judiciary Committee said, “in this age, there is no substitute for Christianity…That was the religion of the founders of the republic, and they expected it to remain the religion of their descendants.”
In 1892 the S. Court stated, “No purpose of action against religion can be imputed to any legislation, State or national, because this is a religious people … This is a Christian nation. There is no dissonance in these declarations. There is a universal language pervading them all, having one meaning; they affirm and reaffirm that this is a religious nation. These are not individual sayings, declarations of private persons: they are organic [legal, governmental] utterances; they speak the voice of the entire people. … These, and many other matters which might be noticed, add a volume of unofficial declarations to the mass of organic utterances that this is a Christian nation.”

Report Post »Where is “God” in the Constitution?
The mistake modern secularists make is obvious. They take a twentieth century concept like “secularism” and read it back into the Constitution. They take a concept that didn’t even exist in the eighteenth century and attribute it to the framers of the Constitution. Unfortunately, this is a very common mistake. The fact that the word “God” does not appear in the Constitution means little. It is actually a rather shallow observation. The reality is “God” is in every word of the Constitution, including the punctuation. Below the surface of the words in the Constitution, there are a mountain of ideas that made its formation possible. The belief that God exists and that all nations of the world are subject to Him sits on the summit of that mountain. As the Supreme Court of Florida said in 1950: “Different species of democracy have existed for more than 2,000 years, but democracy as we know it has never existed among the unchurched. A people unschooled about the sovereignty of God, the ten commandments and the ethics of Jesus, could never have evolved the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. There is not one solitary fundamental principle of our democratic policy that did not stem directly from the basic moral concepts as embodied in the Decalog and the ethics of Jesus . . . No one knew this better than the Founding Fathers.” by Ed Current
