As Jonathon noted, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin took a subtle swipe at First Lady Michelle Obama and her childhood nutrition initiative during her TLC show Sunday evening. The remark was hardly a debate over national policy but was apparently enough for former Arkansas governor and Palin‘s Fox News colleague Mike Huckabee to challenge Palin’s seriousness over the issue of childhood obesity.
In an interview with New York radio host Curtis Sliwa Tuesday, Huckabee — a man who has openly struggled with his weight in the past — suggested that he‘s on board with Obama’s national dietary campaign and distanced himself from Palin’s light-hearted criticism:

Posted on December 23, 2010 at 10:10pmWe all know that eating right is key to staying in good health and to keep your weight down. We just don’t want the government to force us into it. We need to hold ourselves accountable. It’s about government inteference, not the food itself. Anyone can eat junk food as long as you do it in moderation. Why doesn’t Obama quit smoking? Has he? Why doesn‘t he do PSA’s about how bad smoking is and to encourage parents to not smoke around their children.

Posted on December 22, 2010 at 3:23amHuckabee- YOU ARE A JOKE! (And your wife is…) And don’t waste any of our time running for president! No one takes you seriously! (Well, maybe liberals do, and only because they would LOVE for you to run in 2012 beccause they know they’d cream ya!) Stay home for 2012, as someone else said, we don‘t need your ’help!’ And whoever said you want to be everything to everyone was right! You are a dirt-bag, no different than Obama in that respect, because you want everyone to love you and your stupid-ass show on Fox (which I pride myself on having never watched)! So do us all a favor and keep your little gig going on Fox News on the weekends where you can kiss every guest’s ass (even Charlie Rangel‘s and Al Sharpton’s), and go around thinking you are presidential material (LMFAO), and falsely believing everyone loves you- not! Huckabee- YOU ARE JOKE AND I, NOR ANYONE I KNOW WOULD EVER CONSIDER VOTING FOR YOU!!!

Posted on December 22, 2010 at 2:36amLately Huckabee seems to be kissing the progressives butts. I haven’t been to impressed by that. When joy and whoopie announce publically that they like Huckabee it makes me wonder. He had Charlie Rangle on last week and I made the comment that ole Mike is leaning left lately. He says the right words but now I seem to question his sincereity. He obviously has big plans to run in 2012. He won’t get my vote. I want the people that we elect to keep saying NO to anything that the progressives try to pass. I am not voting for anyone that I think will back down. Things have got to be changed to get this country back on it’s feet. We don’t have the time or money to waste . Anyone that can‘t represent us doesn’t deserve to be appointed to any government office. They think that we will trust their judgement without question and go back to our every day lives just because we had success last November. Heck, we are just getting started.Huckabee is trying to gain popularity and win support but I think he is making some major mistakes that will cost him in the long-run..

Posted on December 22, 2010 at 2:30amWhat does religion have to do with this? As far as I can conclude the issue has to do with those in government saying one thing and claim they support something the people want one minute and then turning around (sometimes in the same breath) and talk out the side of their face and do the opposite. Those claiming to be conservative and practice being progressive. make promises and breaking them the minute they think no one is watching or noticing. passing laws, bills and regulations choking the breath out of the American people. I personally don’t care what religion any of them practice as long as they keep America free and have our prosperity as a nation at heart and way TOO many do not.

Posted on December 22, 2010 at 2:08amalthough my heart goes out to those who fight obesity, I do not believe the government should have anything to do with regulating food in any way. The government has gotten out of control to where they want to regulate EVERY aspect of our lives. Last last night, while pretending to debate the START treaty, the GOP in the US Senate betrayed their strongest supporters and, after promising us never to do so, gave unanimous consent to move the fake “food safety” bill (really, the “food… control” bill) S.510 to the House for lame-duck passage.

Posted on December 22, 2010 at 2:02amMike Huckabee’s statement is 180-degrees away from what I have believed about him. Anyone who thinks using “a government solution” to a personal (even unhealthy) lifestyle choice is better than any other solution to the problem leans too far to the left to earn my vote. In a FREE USA, education NOT regulation is the answer. When government legislation and regulation limits our FREE CHOICE, the correct definition for that style of government is, Communism.

We all know what good nutrition is. It’s when the government steps in and tells us what to eat it starts to become a problem.
We want big government out of it entirely! It’s not their business to tell parents what to tell their children to eat. Most of us know what to tell our children to eat.
We don’t need big government or Michelle Obama telling us what to do, or regulating us when it comes to our kids food intake. It’s none of their business.
Keep the heck out of our lives, and our children’s lives!

The Food Bill bleeds into everything produced with organic materials, not just your food. Oh, and don’t forget the thousands of jobs that will be lost due to Government agencies overburdening the small producers who do not have the funds or the manpower to keep up with regulatory requirements. Your precious Dems are balooning the size of government, and it is you who will end up paying the price, either through higer taxes or increased cost of neccessities.

Posted on December 22, 2010 at 1:28amChildhood obesity is indeed a problem in this country. However, government regulation is not the answer. Responsibility to make sure children turn off video games, get exercise, and eat well belongs on the shoulders of parents, not the government. Supposed parents who are responsible and whose children are healthy and not obese believe in allowing an occasional trip to McDonald’s. Why not, or are they to be “punished” for sins of others? Will government outlaw desserts on menus because some people have diabetes? Where will the line be drawn? This belongs as a PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY, Michelle and Huckabee, not government’s! Government regulation such as Michelle Obama promotes falls into the category of “group” punishment. Just because many have no will power or self-control should not mean others should have no choice.

Posted on December 22, 2010 at 4:30amGovernment education would be better served than regulation. How many really understand make healthy choices? I think most people have no idea the effects of the high fat high calorie foods have on us. We have all been raised thinking these foods are the normal diet. Our ancestors had no idea the difference. If we understand that a lower fat diet practiced as a lifestyle obesity would disappear. Try education it would produce better results.

Posted on December 22, 2010 at 1:56amAs Ann Coulter said, Huckabee might be the only true liberal Christian in the country. Idiot stands like his are why I will never vote for him for president. I even voted for a Mormon over him in the primary last time. I prefer a conservative Mormon (even though he is wrong theologically) to a liberal Christian. A conservative Mormon will not push his religious requirements on the country. A liberal Christian will. Liberal “religionists” have demanded we do our charitable duty to God by paying “our fair share” of taxes to the “poor.” They demand we bow our liberties at the altar of the green goddess of Mother Earth.
Being a Christian (defined as one who believes Jesus is God and not the spirit brother of Lucifer) I do not see it my duty to force everyone to perform their duty to God. You have your own conscience and will have to answer to God for it. What Michelle Obama and Huckabee want is to take authority away from parents and place it in the hands of bureaucrats. They do it for our own good. They are little tyrants and must be opposed. Palin was not just making a funny comment when she quipped about Obama and dessert. She was actively opposing tyranny.
I plan on organizing a homeschool bake sale for our homeschool group to teach the children about the proper role of government, the love of liberty, civil disobedience, and to protest the stupid fat kids law the president signed. Any little rebellion against tyranny will help.

In Iowa in early 2008 for the campaigning before the Iowa caucuses, Gov. Mike Huckabee, then the governor of Arkansas, at a college campus where he got a question about the DREAM Act. During a campaign season marked with escalating tough talk about immigration and enforcement, Gov. Posted on December 22, 2010 at 12:26pmAgain MANY on the conservative side seem to be thinking like the OBAMA supporters.. rather than looking at the facts.. just like they did with Bush .. these people are MODERATES at best.. I am saying this as someone who was a conservative DEMOCRAT most of my life.. Rommey isn’t any better.. BTW on a personal level I do like Hucklebee.. watch his show every week.. However,, truth be told the money we spend on school lunches is A WASTE of money.. not fating.. they are nothing more than happy meals without the toy.. heck the CHOCOLATE milk is the healthiest thing on the menu..

Report Post »Many (not all) conservatives voted for somebody like Huckabee in 2008, his name was John McCain. And the only reason some stomached it was because of Palin. You don’t know why people like her so much? It’s because of the do as I say, not as I do policies of this White House and Congress that she calls them on. There is no way you are a libertarian and can agree with this man. I agree with you on Ron Paul and many non-intervention policies, but to come to the aid of Huckabee in spite of Palin seems pretty shallow on your part. The FED already wanted to cut potatoes from the Fed lunch program, the POTATO. If you don’t think meat and milk is next (global warming and fat) your oblivious. I follow the mantra “there are always good intentions, but what are the results?”-Milton Friedman. Michelle is using our tax dollars to tell us how to live our life( eat food). Are you going to tell me that because Michelle said so, or her campaign, that people are going to put the cookie down? This is why people can’t stand her and Huckabee. I love how the left can’t stand a politician or figurehead preaching to them how to live their life through the words of Jesus Christ, but are quick to defend people like Michelle and Huckabee who do the same thing (through food, one example of many). This same government that helped bring down the family unit, the sanctity of marriage, and faith/discipline in the classroom now ponders why we have an obesity problem? It’s called personal responsibility, and it came from our parents and teachers. But why should I worry, we have Huckabee and the Obamas.

Posted on December 22, 2010 at 12:46pm@The Truth Burns – Don’t twist my words. I specifically said in previous posts I wasn’t defending him as a candidate, he is a RINO, etc. I am a libertarian. And I do not support Huckabee. Is that clear enough? Also the reason I don’t support Palin. So stop insulting me by saying I must be oblivious.

Report Post »In your posts you question other peoples motives of liking Palin, and then go on to assume she would be co-opted by neo-cons. Yet her resume proves other wise, especially compared to Huckabee. This is why I take you to task. I would also take you to task on the fair tax (which I have to admit may be better then what we have now) because it scolds consumption. And as we know that would dampen small business aspirations. And I really am concerned about your comment that Ron Paul is “our only hope”. What is this Star Wars? LOL. A true Libertarian and Old Right Conservative knows that it’s not about putting faith in the person, but the principals. If you think Ron Paul is our only hope, your in the same crowd of the progressives that elevate Obama to divine status.

Posted on December 22, 2010 at 11:32pmBlah, blah, blah. All politicians do is sidestep the real essence of issues, including Hucky. The problem is not too many calories, the problem is that these kids ain’t gettin rid of the calories. They need to shut off the tube & pc, give their lazy duffs a break & exercise the legs & lungs. I’ve been working for employers since age 12, am now 44, and have yet to find hardly any teens thru 30 year olds who can keep up with me. Why? Because everyone’s brainwashed & bullied by big brother. Can‘t make kids work or punish ’em, too mean & Uncle Sam will get mad. Plus we have a bunch of political “preachers” who turn into bleeding heart, liberal, politically correct idiots like the rest of ‘em. Losers. Get real, get a real heart, grow a spine, make ‘em work & behave, and take back America. Get some discipline or get screwed. Totalitarianists love non disciplined populations. By the way, my Dad was always pretty big, but he could move like a quarterback when he wanted to. It’s called old fashioned work ethics, not a bunch of pandering and weight loss drugs. And why would a preacher side with a woman whom wants to change our culture and HISTORY? That’s exactly what dictatorial, godless heathen do. Some folks will do anything to get elected. Posted on December 23, 2010 at 12:52amHuckabee is NOT realistic about today’s world (as far as the political ideaology goes). Now, michelle‘s diet plan versus Sarah’s?? I think a picture is worth a thousand words on that one! lol
Report Post »I must agree though, people are too fat these days and I mostly blame the self-esteem movement for this. We must tell our children (especially girls) that they are just fine the way they are, and it‘s OK to be ’full figured’. BULLSH**! There was a time we made our children go outside to play, and some mothers even told their children they would get fat if they didn’t stop eating junk food. You can’t tell your fragile little babies they might get fat, for there would be absolutely nothing wrong with that. So, which is it?! Do we want them to be fat and full of themselves, or healthy and just humble enough to be NORMAL? Once again, the progs and libs want it both ways because they never think about what happens if we do this, that, or the other thing. Consequences people, there are ALWAYS consequences.
Also, I blame the laziness of the parents themselves.

Posted on December 23, 2010 at 7:57amHuckabee unfortunately is another McCain he doesn’t take a stand on ANYTHING.. and his chances of any true run in 2012 are going by the wayside ….fast
When you take away another liberty from the American people you have no business running for office … preaching is what Huckabee does best… and thats what he needs to continue to do.

The man joined with McCain to get Romney out of the presidential election in 2008. Do you seriously think that we would be in this position had Romney been president instead of Obama? Instead, we got to choose from liberal progressive (Obama) and a liberal RINO (McCain). Result? Damage control is still reporting on situations all across the spectrum… let you know in 2012.
