Huffington: Assange is No Terrorist — U.S. Policy Just as Bad

Maybe something’s been lost in translation, but the following exchange between Arianna Huffington and Mary Matalin seems rather unbelievable.

In response to Matalin’s question about whether or not Huffington is willing to call Wikileaks founder Julian Assange a terrorist (she’s not), Huffington goes after U.S. policy in Afghanistan instead. Transcript via Hot Air Pundit:

Matalin: “You don’t think that putting innocent lives of our soldiers in jeopardy is an act of terrorism?”

Huffington: “I don’t know why you say that, I think that our government is putting the lives of our soldiers in jeopardy in Afghanistan for no clear national security reason.”

How’s that for “my truth?”

SPECIAL INVITATION TO ALL LIBERAL MEDIA. Once again it is time for our yearly Gala Christmas Party to be held at our expansive pig farm down by the gator swamp. Plenty of fun, games, and refreshment await all honorable attendees. The hogs are drooling because they can’t wait for leftovers. I’m sad to say however that the party date will be pushed back one day as I am trying to repair my broken woodchipper. That said, I look forward to seeing all of you great people. Come as you are, no RSVP necessary. I forgot to mention, I was unable to contact George Soros but if anyone sees him tell him he’s also invited. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

He isnt commiting treason, because he isnt a citizen. So he is a high tech enemy, and part of the entire war against the US. This War on Terror is making a drastic turn. Some of our enemies are using this War as an oppertunity to bring bring us to our knees. When we took our eyes off what needs to happen to win the war, the 2008 election, these guys moved in for the death blow. Acorn, Soros, the Obama adminastration, and a list of thousands, are all in this together. Not working as one entity, but all working for one goal. Destroy the United States of America and all we have stood for. They hate us, for no real reason except there passion and beliefs that if we all were the same, and sat at the same level of poverity, then the world would be better off. Have these people no idea what will happen if the world was full of starving pissed off people. We would be killing each other in the streets for a can of beans. Let the courts of the land decide if Assange is a terrorist or just a common criminal. There are most likely criminal charges to come against him here in America, and if he is bound over, let the folks of the land judge him by the evidence and if guilty then sentence him appropriately.

The information concerning our troops overseas and our allies should not have been released on a straight forward moral grounds; to endanger others for the sake of a story or to ’cause chaos’ in his words is just wrong.

      @AmericanSoldier

You are right, people just don’t like to hear the truth. Nation building is a progressive idea from the Wilsonian era. But many conservatives(as was I for some time) confused on what conservative means. I always thought that supporting troops meant you have to support whatever engagement they are in. I have since learned that supporting the troops means SUPPORT the TROOPS. Not to be confused with Supporting the WAR. There is a huge difference. We have to start taking accountability of what our govt does, even with wars.

The truly conservative approach to wars would be to get in and out as fast as possible based on pre-conditions before going into that conflict, with a declaration of war. Instead, what we have now is an ongoing conflict where once the first condition is met, we just find a new one. Guess what… there are always going to be problems in this world. It is not our duty to bankrupt our country to fix all those problems. Wanting small govt domestically is just as important as having a small govt internationally.

Probably signed up to be a “weekend warrior” then discovered there is no such thing as a weekend warrior, but only real soldiers. Doubly distressing is that he would agree with a foreign born bimbo who is just desperately trying to remain relevant much like Jessie “Jackass” Jackson, AL “Knife You” Sharpton, Bill “Milktoast” Maher and the rest. Huffy needs to go back to Greece where things are really looking up these days. One final point, I don’t know that Assange is terrorist, but he is another liberal nut case, actually he is just a closet **** crying out for attention and doesn‘t give a rat’s rear who or what he hurts so long as he can try to claim relevence (which he isn’t).

Assange is not a terrorist. She is correct that the use of the word ‘terrorist’ to describe him is inaccurate, at best.

However, Assange is, indeed, a clear and present danger to the United States of America, so the argument that he’s exercising Free Speech is bogus. His intention is clearly to harm and undermine America.

“Clear and present danger is a term used by Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. in the unanimous opinion for the case Schenck v. United States,[1] concerning the ability of the government to regulate speech against the draft during World War I:

The question in every case is whether the words used are used in such circumstances and are of such a nature as to create a clear and present danger that they will bring about the substantive evils that the United States Congress has a right to prevent. It is a question of proximity and degree. When a nation is at war, many things that might be said in time of peace are such a hindrance to its effort that their utterance will not be endured so long as men fight, and that no Court could regard them as protected by any constitutional right.” – Wikipedia

How do you not see the difference in putting people in harms way. If you truly believe we are still at war in Afghanistan for national security, you are absolutely blind. Afghanistan is NATION BUILDING. Nothing more. Nothing less. Conservatives USE to be against this, it use to be the Liberals with their bleeding hearts who called for interventions in other countries and for nation building.

Soros plant, now I’ve heard it all. Thanks for all the credit. If only I was being paid for this!

Yes, I am a soldier, active duty and in the INFANTRY. I’ve been to Afghanistan twice. I know first hand how things are over there. So why don’t you monday morning quarterbacks go sign up and see how much you enjoy patrolling IED infested streets every day. I joined as a wide eyes Republican cheering for Bush Jr. I opened my eyes as some of you here think you have. You haven’t. You are just as much asleep at the wheel as the liberals you so much despise.

You know who else were considered terrorist? Our founding fathers. One man‘s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter. Assange might be a liberal but I agree with him that an overbearing Government with no limits on power and absolute secrecy is dangerous and has no place in a free society.

You might think I’m a liberal. I’m far from it. I’m independent. I won’t let anyone or any party tell me what I believe. Too bad most of you are indoctrinated into the two party system. Both sides are hypocrites, plain and simple.

Often we didn‘t agree and didn’t like what we were given to do, but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, we did not get our high horse and agree with foreign born bimbo’s even if they are partly right. The only right part I see is that Assange is not a terrorist, just a attention craving narcissist. Our government is not perfect especially with so many liberals and dumocrats in power, but that is now beginning to change and it will survive. What would you like, some South American style like Chavez, how about Iran style, run by religious idiots, how about Greece or Ireland where they are broke by over taxation and too many handouts? If you are a true soldier, not just a uniform wearer, you will quit criticizing your government until you are a civilian and then run for public office and do something. What if you were asked as a soldier to fight your fellow Americans, even though you knew it was WRONG and that your govt was corrupt. Then what? The odds of this ever happening are slim, but we are not immune to having our own tyrants.

Then you have to ask yourself while your over there, what makes those people so different. Granted when your in a foreign land, things have to be handled differently. But Americansoldier is making valid points and probably should check out Adam Kokesh.
