Huffington Post to Readers: ‘Create Your Own Religion’

Disenchanted with the current religious options available for observance? If so, you’re in luck. Earlier this week, The Huffington Post launched a satirical campaign that invited readers to create their own religion. The contest, which has already stopped accepting submissions, will offer up a number of new “faith” options for anxious seekers. Below, you can read the initial contest information:
You’ve got the long hair, the nice bushy beard, and lots of beliefs, but you don’t have the 2.2 billion adherents worldwide. Or perhaps you’re chubby and like to sit cross-legged, but no one is making statues of you. Or maybe you’re a mediocre sci-fi writer that wants people speaking your psuedoscience.
Well now you can be the next Jesus, the next Buddha, or even the next L. Ron Hubbard. Sign up now to create-your-own religion. You name it, write down the beliefs, rituals, and holidays. We will then post the best submissions on our site and allow you to compete for followers.
The online news portal received 906 submissions, which will be added to a slideshow created to showcase each new religious system. Currently, there are 113 fictitious belief systems posted.
One proposed religion called “9th Order Of The Eternal Pringles” claims the following:
We the chosen of the ninth order believe that the universe was willed into existence by the holy barbecue flavored pringles. Long can form. He will come back in the age of guacamole to defeat the evil one; original flavor pringles. Short can form.
Then, there’s the “The Tea Party of America,” a religion that prides itself on taxing the poor, praising the wealthy and worshiping Ronald Reagan. Its rituals? “The handing out of the dividends checks.” And, its major holiday is Ayn Rand’s birthday.
There’s likely something there to offend everyone. You can find all of the proposed religions here. For those who may, indeed, find annoyance or offense in the initiative, USA Today’s Cathy Lynn Grossman writes:
Now, don‘t get huffy on Princeton’s former Associate Dean of Religious Life Paul Raushenbush who took over HuffPost religion this spring. It’s on the HuffPost comedy page, not the religion pages where folks would certainly know this cute idea is as old as Methuselah, or at least as old at Timothy Leary.
While it’s sort of an odd idea, it certainly seemed to generate some interest.

Posted on June 30, 2011 at 2:52pmUsed to wonder often why the bible says it’s easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to make it to heaven. Perhaps when the rich get richer they forget God and helping those in need. This does not mean you help the able bodied people who choose to live off welfare, it means the widows & children in need of a helping hand. We help too many who can help themselves!

Posted on June 30, 2011 at 10:56amWhy would liberals need another religion. They already have a religion, it’s called Communism. Their 3 gods in one are Lenin, Stalin, and Ho Chi Min. They have saints like Castro & Tito & a host of others. Their infant to worship is an aborted baby. They believe a mystical millions of years can cause rocks to become alive and eventually people. Their overall ideals and goals are to serve Satan, their real main god.

Posted on June 30, 2011 at 11:13amI kind of feel sorry for the agnostics and self-professed atheists among the liberals (I have known some social and fical liberals who attend church regularly). These people have nothing to turn to in times of trouble except their own, amoral selves. Of course it is society that is to blame for their ills, usually Christian. Though why they focus on the believers in Jesus as the Savior is beyond me. There are enough religions out there that anything else, done for comedy sake or seriously, that no one will ever come up with something unique or original. You “Grok?”

The key word in this entire article is “satrical”. There was a time when this country had a sense a humor. Now it‘s just populated with a bunch of hypersensitive cry babies who believe they’re religion is being persecuted by some big bad media machine. And the American way of life is circling the drain. There are no jokes in the Bible but there is an abundance of wit and humor. Some of the types of humor found in the Hebrew Bible include sarcasm, irony, wordplays, humorous imagery, and humorous stories and situations. Much of this humor can only be appreciated if read in the original Hebrew and not in a translation.

My religion– A God of your understanding
Doctrine===
Your own personal relationship with the creator. (one true religion)
Letting your conscience bear whiteness for right and wrong.
Trying to learn to Love one more person each day as a brother or sister.
Personal doctrine I would suggest===
That book of books written by 40 people from different walks of life over the course of 2600 years and still maintained synchronized flow from beginning to end (amazing)
John 14:1 1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
The way is found thru faith in the resurrection and obedience to the Fathers will.

And, this ‘very senior citizen’ is VERY satisfied that I have touched some folks along my road of life – and helped make their lives better – and so made mine better. I’m satisfied with my accomplishments and with how I have aged gracefully and will gladly leave this earth at the appointed hour.

- exercise causes global warming – you respirate too much CO2 & have a higher metabolism, so we need more fat people who have slow metabolisms – save the planet eat a twinkie!
- coffee production – we’ll have to shut down all the Starbucks, or at least tax them so the prices necessarily skyrocket
iphones – just 8 square inches of the stuff creates as much pollution as 7 SUV’s
kitty cats – feline urine is the most toxic substance on earth
Hey, if the inventor of the internet (ManBearPig) can make up all his crazy crap, so can we!

Posted on June 30, 2011 at 4:56pmYou know what I find….athiests are about the most miserable SOB’s on the face of the Earth. I speak from experience. Family members…..just mean spirited, surly, pessimistic train wrecks. Never have a nice thing to say and live life for themselves…..usually liberals who seem happy writing a nice check to a charity or to the tax man to help them “sleep” at night but totally disconnected from others.
I’m all for the 9th Order of the Pringles……I wonder if 5 cans can feed 5000 people?
