Convicted cop-killed Mumia Abu Jamal received a commutation of his sentence to life in prison instead of the death penalty this week just days before a massive December 9th rally planned to celebrate his 30th year of incarceration and call for his release.
The event is scheduled to take place in the National Constitution Center– the only museum in the United States exclusively devoted to the Constitution.
Mumia Abu Jamal’s 30th prison anniversary will be celebrated by guests including Cornel West, Michelle Alexander, Vijay Prashad, Immortal Technique, Mark Lamont Hill, Ramona Africa, Michael Coard, Louisa Hanoune, Amiri and Amina Baraka, IMPACT Youth Repertory Theater, and the African Dance Ensemble, according to Freemumia.com.
Author Michelle Alexander appears in a promotional video for the Mumia’s 30th Anniversary event. In that clip (below), she ties the convicted cop-killer’s plight to that of all incarcerated people, stating that:
“The struggle for justice in Mumia’s case is part of a larger movement to end mass incarceration and the demonization of poor people of color and all those who are willing to stand with them in their fight for social and racial justice.”
Below is the video promoting Mumia’s event, including one speaker who makes the claim that “the justice system has utterly and completely failed Mumia Abu Jamal.”
Mumia has expressed solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street movement in his radio broadcasts from prison, and it is expected that Occupy Philadelphia will show up at the Mumia event in full force.
And this comes to The Blaze from Pennsylvania political cartoonist Tim Hartman:

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 7:29amYes, people whose doubt is in serious question should not have the opportunity to challenge their death sentence. That is how they do it in Texas, right? Science and facts are irrelevant, all that matters is satisfying the blood thirsty mob who somehow claim to believe in Jesus Christ. Pro-life indeed.

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 7:53amNepenthe, trust me, I’ve been following this case for decades, this is pretty close to an open and shut case. Mumia is proof that you can be caught red-handed, smoking gun in hand, and with enough eyewitnesses to convict just about anybody, and you’ll still have your obnoxious vocal supporters.
I firmly believe that most of Mumia‘s followers do not think he is innocent and they just think it’s cool that he murdered a cop.

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 8:06amHey moron, the way I understand it went down he killed a cop in cold blood, they caught him with the gun and spent shell casings (revolver) and tied the bullets from the cops body through ballistics to the weapon. I missing the part where there is doubt about this POS’s guilt. I say he deserves exactly the same amount of mercy he showed toward the police officer…..fry his @$$ yesterday he has lived far to long!

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 10:59am@Nepenthe: As a PA resident my whole life, I know all too well the background and arguments made in this case, and what has and is going on here is an abomination. You, my friend, are an idiot. You talk about “serious doubt”??? How about there being absolutely overwhelming and convincing evidence to convict, incarcerate, and execute a cold blooded killer???
I’ll gladly change my view on your intellect when I see your FACTS on the case and your sources. Reading the actual court transcripts; referring to factual evidence presented; and reading the counter-arguments (backed by FACTS) to the “Free Mumia” propaganda might change your mind. Or did you just watch HBO, since reading something so boring and immaterial as court transcripts or books on the subject (ones that present both ends of the spectrum) is probably too much for you?
And, I still have to wonder why HIS OWN BROTHER, who was the reason Jamal got “engaged with officer Faulkner” in the first place, has never–in 30 years–testified, spoken up, or defended him???
Sorry, but this BS has gone on way too long. He should’ve met his fate years ago and be resigned to history in the same way others of his ilk have been: forgotten.
I highly encourage folks interested in a quick run of the facts and to debunk some of the insane myths presented over the years to go to http://www.danielfaulkner.com (not my site, but one set up by friends and family of Officer Faulkner).

Report Post »If you read “INJUSTICE”, by J Christian Adams, you’ll know just how much the DOJ is racially motivated.
I already knew, from the DOJ not prosecuting the New Black Panthers in Philly, amongst other things, that Holder and his boss (Obama) were settling a score with America…White America.
If you read that ONE book, you will have things come into focus.
Militant Blacks are becoming more militant, and its because of haters like Obama, Holder, the CBC (with its cast of racist haters like Waters, Jackson, etc).
All the above know that the DOJ is going to spin things in their favor.

Report Post »Taking the above as a given I have to say that your commentary equates to radical, close-minded nonsense. However you are right that some have been trained/raised to lean in said direction. I believe that you will find it is in our best interests as a culture to change/remove those negative influences that lead segments of our society to behave in a counter-productive manner.
Any legal resident of the United States, not engaged in behaviour designed to ‘fundamentally change’ our country into something it isn’t, should be embraced as a fellow -not judged by the behaviour of others.
My apologies to any that the following may apply:
The United States cannot exist in a Islamic world. The Koran’s dictates are opposed to the societal beliefs of our people. I am not speaking Theologically, but Secularly. Our freedoms are in contradiction with Muslim beliefs. ((Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Choice, Freedom of Religion are all counter to the Koran.))
The Bible calls for tolerance and understanding, love and compassion for your enemies. Violence is ONLY permitted for self-defence -presuming that God doesn’t want his people to walk blithely into the ovens.
The Koran calls for Conversion by the Sword, though a nuke would be more effici..en..t. uh-oh.

I don‘ ttake anything as a ’given’ nowadays.Your damn right its radical and I call it as I see it.I’m tired of the P.C. crap.I’ve been open minded for over half a century. There comes a time when you call a spade a spade(no pun intended),instead of beating around the bush and playing nice.I’m sick of playing nice.Whats glaringly obvious needn‘t be sanitized or made to look like what it isn’t.
The people in this article DISGUST me for many reasons, let alone the Cop Killer.Black, white, the color isn’t of major importance.I‘ve watched and read about these evil SOB’s since the early 60′s and they never change.A jungle mentality with a hatred of all things good, decent and organized/civil.

I think most of them do not actually believe any of that, they just defend him because they do not like the police, and Mumia’s a writer, a radio personality, and has put out albums.
Having grown up in Philly, I can tell you that the further you get from the city, the less likely you’ll hear much in the way of the actual facts surrounding this case.
I can‘t believe it’s been thirty years, I actually remember hearing about the murder of Daniel Faulkner pretty soon after it happened, and the man’s family has still not seen justice.
