Huge Tarantula in Studio Freaks Out TV Weatherman During Live Broadcast

Huge Tarantula in Studio Freaks Out TV Weatherman During Live Broadcast | Jim OBrien | Ray Cortopassi | WXIN TV Fox Indianapolis`

It’s possible that WXIN-TV meteorologist Jim O’Brien is playing up his fears for a little TV drama. But there is a certain look in his eye as his co-worker Ray Cortopassi taunts him that shows flashes of genuine uneasiness. For the rest of us it’s just a fun moment from the morning show at the Fox station in Indianapolis!

I couldn’t see the video, the picture was enough. My brother, Frank, brought home a huge bunch of bananas from the New Orleans wharves when I was a child and with it a tarantula. It was loose in my house and was quite an adventure. Mom had gone downstairs during the night and when she came back up the stairs she jumped over it, yelled to everyone to keep our doors closed that there was a big spider in the stairwell. We had no idea….. Well, it ended up in a large downstairs closet, that older readers will understand, Fibber Maggee and Mollie closet.. It was packed. So we went off to school with our great tale while Mom and my Aunt pulled everything out of said closet not finding it. So they looked around again and it had gotten into our radio and was visible in the bubble dial on front. My Aunt took the radio on the front porch with her pump bug sprayer and drownded our radio and our visitor as well…. The End.

One immature man with a tarantula and two people acting like school girls. They all need some time in the bosses office, including the idiot that booked the snake and tarantula on the show in the first place. This type of programming jumped the shark on the Tonight Show 30 years ago.

He’s not being dramatic….his voice broke. What man wants his voice to break? I used to be terrified of spiders to the point of making someone else come in and kill a house spider. I had a wolf spider jump out at me and I swear I jumped over the kitchen table. It was a little smaller than that spider, but mostly legs. I grew out of it when i had kids, and became the spider killer.

It’s not on my face, it’s not on my neck and it is smaller then my shoe. I’m in the city and smart enough to know how to get medical attention if I need it. Guess what, your fear is only in your head. Suck it up and think it through.

wolf spiders are smaller than your boot, yet, when you stomp them, they keep walking… somethings don’t just “smash” as easy as you believe. how many times have you handled a tarantula? ;)

I thought wolf spiders were big? Maybe the one I saw wasn’t a wolf spider. It was just a little smaller than that one. I finally had a friend kill it with my husband’s crutch (he was in a leg cast from the tip of his toe to “yahoo”).

Typical bully! He took it way to far … if I was the weatherman I’d stay clear of him for good. This guy was clearly a control freak with no clue for a time and a place. He flew past joke when he missed the cue of “man walking off his job on live television”. The jerk clearly checked out of reality and was in complete bully bliss controling everyone with fear and terror. His inablility to discern should be the question at the HR meeting to reprimand. The co-workers should have him pegged from now on … bullies are lonely people and this clip shows exactly why. What a jerk!

You are absolutely right. All this clip shows is a bully flaunting his power and taunting those around him. Those in the newsroom who were watching and laughing are also to blame for *just standing there* as bystanders. A bunch of them could have ended this rather quickly by cutting microphones and cameras from the bully, forming a human barrier of protection between the weatherman and him, and being someone who *stand’s up* for the victim. THIS, in my opinion, would take power away from bullies, and transfer it to the victims — if only the people standing around would choose to stand up for those at the lower end of the proverbial totem pole. We just need to embrace this sort of culture change in our society, to see successful results in lowering incidences in bullying.

I have a Chilean Rose Tarantula… They are pretty docile and takes a lot to make them mad (they will shoot the hairs off their butt before they would ever waiste their venom). She is in a big fish tank in my living room and makes for a great conversation piece! This guy is a wuss!

      Arachnophobia is no stunt.

And the one being unprofessional was not the weatherman leaving the studio to get away from it. It was the one holding the tarantula and threatening everyone else with it. He needs to be reprimanded.

There is one about that size living in the bush under my youngest son’s window, we named her Gwen. I draw the line when they get in the house (they like shoes), they eat the bugs that sting like the scorpians, centipedes and assassin bugs. In America, generally harmless.

Most tarantulas are pretty benign. they won‘t hurt you if you don’t hurt them. they will crawl all over you but not bite. Only when threatened do they want to use their venom. But, it still is freaky to have a spider that big walking around on some part of your body.

      BS…here’s the worlds largest spider.

Native to the rain forest regions of northern South America, these spiders have up to a 30 centimeter (12 in) long leg span when fully extended and can weigh over 120 grams. Wild goliath birdeaters are a deep burrowing species, found commonly in marshy or swampy areas. Goliath birdeaters usually live in burrows in the ground that they have either dug themselves or have been previously abandoned by rodents or other similar creatures.
