‘Humble In Our Convictions’: This Is Obama’s National Day of Prayer Proclamation

This Is President Obamas National Day of Prayer Proclamation

President Barack Obama has a message for America: Let’s come together to “pray for guidance, grace, and protection for our great Nation.” Why the religious overtones, you ask? Today is the National Day of Prayer, an annual event that is intended “to mobilize prayer in America and to encourage personal repentance and righteousness in the culture.”

This year marks the 61st observance of the initiative, which was created in 1952 by a joint resolution in the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. As is customary, Obama issued a proclamation in observance of the day.

In his statement, the president shared his views on the historical importance of prayer and religious protection. Additionally, he praised the nation’s Armed Forces and challenged all Americans to participate in showering prayer upon America.

Here‘s Obama’s address, in full:

Prayer has always been a part of the American story, and today countless Americans rely on prayer for comfort, direction, and strength, praying not only for themselves, but for their communities, their country, and the world.

On this National Day of Prayer, we give thanks for our democracy that respects the beliefs and protects the religious freedom of all people to pray, worship, or abstain according to the dictates of their conscience. Let us pray for all the citizens of our great Nation, particularly those who are sick, mourning, or without hope, and ask God for the sustenance to meet the challenges we face as a Nation. May we embrace the responsibility we have to each other, and rely on the better angels of our nature in service to one another. Let us be humble in our convictions, and courageous in our virtue. Let us pray for those who are suffering around the world, and let us be open to opportunities to ease that suffering.

Let us also pay tribute to the men and women of our Armed Forces who have answered our country’s call to serve with honor in the pursuit of peace. Our grateful Nation is humbled by the sacrifices made to protect and defend our security and freedom. Let us pray for the continued strength and safety of our service members and their families. While we pause to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice defending liberty, let us remember and lend our voices to the principles for which they fought — unity, human dignity, and the pursuit of justice.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim May 3, 2012, as a National Day of Prayer. I invite all citizens of our Nation, as their own faith directs them, to join me in giving thanks for the many blessings we enjoy, and I call upon individuals of all faiths to pray for guidance, grace, and protection for our great Nation as we address the challenges of our time.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this first day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-sixth.

As the religious join the president in celebrating this day, atheists and non-believers are observing their alternative to the event – the National Day of Reason. Rather than advancing prayer, the initiative is aimed at spreading non-belief, “reason” and secular tenets.

      I learned a long time ago that just because a person uses the same words as I do (such as God, prayer, etc etc etc..) that it is not to be assumed that they assign the same meaning to those words as I do. I remain unconvinced that when the president says “god” that he is referring to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. His proclamation does not make that clear and no where is Jesus Christ mentioned. Not surprising because of course the prez has to be p.c. and Jesus Christ certainly wasn’t p.c. in His “speeches”. I also don’t align myself with just anyone who wants to pray. To whom are they praying? Allah? a.k.a. the moon god? or some dead guy who had a nice philosophy? The difference is that among all the so called founders of world religions all have died, but only One has ever gotten up from the dead. Thats the guy I want to be with. Thats the guy through whom I will make prayer to God.

      why now, only because it is an election year. If I am not mistaken, he canceled the last one and did the day of Muslim thing. he is just not worth much that is for sure. Next thing you know we will see photos of him actually going to church. why ONLY because it is an election year.

      This is just another obvious photo opt. for the President. If his mother was on her death bed and he thought of picture of him by herside would get one vote he would have a professional photographer

      He passed on this last year. HMM! Think the election has anything to do with this. Obama is a pseudo Christian, and has actively worked against TRUE Christianity, re supporting gay marriage, abortion. In reality he is but another anti-Christ. A WOLF in sheeps clothing, as these actions PROVE.

      Hearing the word “humble” in the same sentence with Barack Obama is hilarious at best. This is the most arrogant man-child we’ve ever had as President. There is a great video called the hypocrisy of a President that came out yesterday. It about says it all when it comes to being “humble.”

    I, BARACK OBAMA….whoahhhh….is that humble…to whom…himself? He sure didn’t humble himself unto the Lord in this prayer as a Christian, bc he left room for other gods throughout the prayer. A POTUS allowing other gods to be spoken to in his own prayer may as well not pray. I know everyone has the right to choose but the president doesn’t need to express that in his prayer so much and speaking up for atheist in our nation is a disgrace on the National Day of Prayer. When does he realize that we are not a democracy?

      To be honest I would rather this man just come right out and say who or what be believes in and worships but saying he is “christian” defames my God and Lord.
      This man is the closest thing to the antichrist this nation has ever seen. We have NEVER in all our history had a President who has fought against the Christan faith as he has been doing…. fought against personal liberty as this man has been doing….fought against our right to life as this man has been doing!!!! He is setting himself up to become a socialist dictator while giving the American / Christian people lip service at best but most of the time he gives us his verbal backhand.
      Daily he says… “yes the constitution says I can’t …. but I am going to do it anyway now try and stop me….”
      Does he really think this kind of hollow lip service is going to make us line up and shut up?
      Pray America that 4 more years of this is only a nightmare and not a reality!

      This guy knows full well who and what we as a nation are! He knows we are NOT a democracy but a constitutional representative REPUBLIC!!!! He is constantly saying we are a democracy because that is what he wants us to be…..until he changes it.
      This man is a national disgrace and a traitor! I do not understand why our congress does not bring this man and his officials up on charges!

    Every chance the libs get to call America a democracy, they do. Pretty soon people start believing it, thinking, “oh yeah…” I mean, it just becomes normal. I don’t understand how people calling something by a completely different name can change the name. This frustrates me to no end…. Sick of hearing it fro elected officials, from the media, from tv shows and movies, “this is a democracy’ etc. Actually, it’s not> But pretty soon if you say it long enough everyone will believe you and then get their panties in a wad when we call it a constitutional republic again, thinking ‘oh no, they’re taking away my democracy” when it never was, and they’d rather it not be if they knew the truth!

      We are right to be angry in fact we would be wrong not to be. But remember God is good at taking care of what belongs to Him….This nation is not ours but His so….     JESUS GOD, it is so hard to pray for this man! I bet my prayers are not what YOU had in mind. Every now and then I try really hard to pray for him. (Clenched teeth). Arghhh!

    My heartfelt, deep-seated, soul prayer is for GOD’S forgiveness and restoration of our nation which will return to HIM. This is my heart’s desire. My head interferes often with this prayer as I realize so many are not at all interested in GOD or in HIS desire for AMERICA. Yet, I do pray on knowing our GOD IS THE GOD of forgiveness and miracles. In JESUS’ sweet and mighty name, amen.
