Hundreds of Wisconsin Cops Take Sides With Leftist Protesters Inside Capitol Building

A couple of days ago The Blaze posted our observations about officers in Wisconsin seemingly turning a blind-eye to the substance-fueled behavior of protesters inside the capitol building.

A police spokesperson told us, “That would never be able to happen.”

We are now getting a different picture of the police relationship with the leftist protesters.

The Green Bay Press Gazette:

MADISON — Hundreds of off-duty police officers and deputies joined protests today against Gov. Scott Walker’s budget repair bill that would strip most collective bargaining powers from about 170,000 public employees.

Police, state troopers and firefighters are exempt from Walker’s proposal, but even as some marched on the downtown Capitol Square, hundreds of other officers from around the state provided security.

They came equipped with riot gear, including helmets and batons, they said, but didn’t expect trouble.

From inside the Wisconsin State Capitol, RAN ally Ryan Harvey reports:

“Hundreds of cops have just marched into the Wisconsin state capitol building to protest the anti-Union bill, to massive applause. They now join up to 600 people who are inside.”

Ryan reported on his Facebook page earlier today:

“Police have just announced to the crowds inside the occupied State Capitol of Wisconsin: ‘We have been ordered by the legislature to kick you all out at 4:00 today. But we know what’s right from wrong. We will not be kicking anyone out, in fact, we will be sleeping here with you!’ Unreal.”

More from the Press Gazette:

Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Cpl. Matt Spence and Deputy Todd Traas stood guard on the Capitol’s northwest side directing pedestrians toward entrances to the building.

“We left at 3 a.m. on Thursday and have been (in Madison) ever since,” Traas said. Five Sheboygan County deputies were on duty Saturday.

They came equipped with riot gear, including helmets and batons, they said, but didn’t expect trouble.

“It’s been great,” Spence said.

Richard Daley, 62, of Green Bay, who retired from the Madison Police Department after 20 years on the force, came back to Madison on Saturday “supporting the fact that we all see this as union busting and wage suppression. This is a long-term, downward spiral of wages for working families.”

Wausau police Detective Cord Buckner, 42, stoically stood in the cold with an American flag wrapped around his face and holding a “Cops for Labor” sign as thousands of demonstrators marched around the Capitol.

“I‘m here to support all the unions’ rights,” he said. Saturday was his fourth day demonstrating in Madison since protests began, even though members of his union, the Wisconsin Professional Police Association, won‘t be affected directly by Walker’s bill.

“The aggregate effect on public employees will affect police unions eventually,” he said.

And it’s not just the police.

    These are not firefighters and police. They are inciters. Pass the bill. Fire them all and rehire based on merit. They others will be free to seek other employment. Like working for the Union.
    The greedy of these people to think that others should work three times the hours to pay their part time salaries and full time benefits will not cut it.
    I could not be paid enough to work with these whining ingrates. Privatize fire stations, schools and parks. I need a job.. And i don’t want any Union fighting for co-workers rights to just show up.

      I don’t where to start with your inflammatory comments.
      But I will say this like many of the commentators on this link be care for what you wish for …
      This about an end to collective bargaining in the State of Wisconsin and could easily escalate through out the nation.
      I really don’t think you want to have an American labour force that can no longer stand up against corporate tyranny which what we are witnessing in the United States.
      To better understand what industrial America was like prior to the advent of unions you need to look no further than a book simply named the Jungle by Upton Sinclair that examines the horrors of the meat packing industry or you can look at the world through Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens a world where children either worked in coal mines or were abandoned and ended up in gangs or as Victorian history reports sexual fodder for well too do gentlemen.
      If America banishes unions from these shores and destroys government agencies such as as OSHA and the EPA then your labor force will begin to resemble that of Chinese workers who have no labor rights and work 60 -70 hours per week – live in gender segregated housing and often have to risk their lives in unsafe working conditions- for example in construction- Should a Chinese worker become injured on the job there is no workers compensation , there’s no unemployment insurance and there is no socialized healthcare – depending on the severity of the injury he could easily end up as a street beggar or if a factory worker for an American company Guangdong Province is injured on the job the same fate awaits him or her.
      So scream all you want about privatize this and that and blindly listen to your corporate masters who tell you the real evil people are those ‘greedy teachers or lazy firemen’ who are destroying America- But in reality it is the greed and utter inhumanity of people like the Koch brother’s who are also active Tea Party sponsors and have done nothing to create a better world . Instead they spend every working day trying to destroy the EPA , OSHA and Unions , as well as trying to destroy the very middle class existence that many of you enjoy.
      The Koch brother’s and their ilk have one mission to create the same kind of labor environment that exists in China today where people fight over scarps casts from the masters of the universe.

      Being involved in a union for security of your employment is an unnatural psychological creation.
      Unionizing for safety and merit pay achievement base is one thing, We have passed the point where Municipalities, States and the Government have expanded the pay and retirement beyond what is possible due to the strong arm tactics of special interest. (unions)

      @ EngChina: I was under the impression that PUBLIC UNIONS were the only ones Governor Walker is asking to give up their right to collective bargaining … this request does not apply to the private sector unions. Will someone confirm my understanding or explain if I am incorrect?

      Okay, good, we know where conservatives stand – cops, firefighters, nurses, teachers – all idiots and communists and disgusting.

      Good, we’ll start from there. Wisconsin is scheduled to get about $3 billion in FEDERAL government funding for everything from Medicaid to transit to homelessness prevention. Here’s the deal we should put to the Wisconsin voters – Walker can strip collective bargaining (which still won’t fix his $137 million shortfall) but he’ll have to give up the federal money. All $3B. He’s a conservative. I‘m sure he doesn’t want all that stinky gubmint money.

      There you go. Problem solved. And all you retired patriots can do the same. Just think, if everybody who is morally opposed to Social Security and Medicaire just refused it, we’d have a surplus again before you could say Bill Clinton.

      Now, who’s gonna be the first patriotic Tea Party American patriotic patriot to step up and lead the way?

      Anyone? Who here actually believes isn in acting on the so-called convictions? Bueller? Who has the guts to stand on principle? Bueller? Anybody willing to sacrifice? Bueller? You know somebody asked Sean Hannity a similar question – if he’d be willing to consider means testing as a way to improve Social Security. he said, “Absolutely not. I’ve sacrificed enough.” BTW, when is gonna keep his promise to be waterboarded for charity?

      As a taxpayer in Wosconsin and not only that a taxpayer in Wisconsin that supports Gov. Walker I would be ok with him turning down that “gubmint” money. Gov. Walker is right, he has been right form the get go, and if he stays his course he will continue to be right in this. He is seeking the means by which to assure the balancing of the budget and giving the tools to others so they can do they same in their local municipalities.

      This shouldn’t turn us against all police officers and firefighters. But it is really disturbing to see that justice is not blind with the union supporters. It is only blind to their greed and envy. This is a HUGE reason why TSA should not be unionized.

      BTW…Gwad Dawg (It) never replies to anyone. It just comes on here and rants with little to no reason. They sad thing is, its ideas probably seems rational in its brain.

If I may – you’ve got an election and the only two candidates (no write-ins hypothetically) were a Christian offering higher taxes and regulations on business (and lets assume liberal ideas on everything else), or a Muslim offering lower taxes less regulations, and a typical social conservative agenda – who gets your vote?

      Haha, no. I’m glad you asked that. The truth is the few conservatives that I know and talk to on a regular basis don’t really like to discuss politics all that much. I much prefer hearing the viewpoints of regular people, not paid pundits. The anchors on MSNBC frustrate me to no end because they only want to demonize the other side and I know that average people from both sides have a lot more ideals and values in common than cable news would have us believe. Sorry, I get carried away with the questions, its too easy to type and click send on the net.

      I‘ve noticed lately that Obama’s minions in the media and blogs are trying to sneak in a little
      “ so what if he is a muslim” meme , mixed in with their regular bu**-licks .
      As 2012 approaches and Obama’s handlers need to decide who to run him against since running against Bush might not be very media-wise , and as his allegiences and loyalties are getting suspicious with his every action, I’m sure “ so what if he is a muslim” meme will gain some traction as the days go by.
      This question will always be thrown at Republicans too, just like every Obama-fluffernutter keeps asking Republicans , every chance he/she can get if they believe he was born here and is a Christian. We all know what the end game is here.

The Tea Party’s goal is to add good paying public and private sector jobs… with money we have already earned instead of selling our children into slavery via massive debt bubbles.     I am fed up with the Union Government workers getting all the perks and the rest of us footing the Bill.

The Police are sworn to enforce the law and defend the constitution of the US and Wisconsin but they would rather help the Commies in the union than perform there duty. If this happens in other cities and states then I fear for America. Can we depend on the Natl Guard to defend the Constitution? Can we depend on the Military to defend the Constitution? Or will they go over to the rioters like is happening in Libya where some of the air force and army are joining the rebels.

      No question some Natl gaurd are union members. I use to know a teacher who was in the Natl guard and who was in the teachers union. I bet alot of Guard members are in unions maybe not most but alot. Weather they will follow orders and support the Constitution or go along with the Commies I dont know.

      I firmly believe pensions are a thing of the past……soon to be replaced with the 401. Pensions cannot be sustained by governments, especially when they get to highly populated levels and at the 80 percent range (which is mindblowing.)     This is only about greedy public sector employees who earn far more than harder working private sector employees. I should know since I’ve worked union and non-union jobs. The laziest people I ever met were the ones who KNEW that they couldn’t be fired.

      NO, it’s when police enforce the law based on their own political ideology, that you have the problem. If they refuse to enforce the law, in order to benefit these people… would they refuse to enforce the law allowing harm to someone with an opposing view?

      That’s the question at hand. And the fact that the question is even being asked is grounds enough to fire these people, IMO. There’s thousands of law-enforcement majors on waiting lists to fill these spots. Same with the fire dept… hundreds of applications per job opening. they’re government inflated industries, so there’s plenty of supply to meet the bloated demand (unless you’re an inner city police patrolman). Just like there were plenty of construction worker jobs a few years ago.

    Being a cop myself (non union supervisor), and bassed on the response I am getting from the officers I supervise, I kind of expected this. It is too bad that these police officers have lost their sense of professionalism. They should be staying neutral.

    Another thing that I find interesting is that firefighters are allowed to wear their tax payer funded firefighting gear to the Capitol. If we allowed that in our department that would be a violation policy and procedure.

    I think it is best for Walker to just start laying off workers in the non essential areas of government. Who knows, we might see a state that can function better without them.

      I ,too, was a non-union supervisor for a law agency (not Wisconsin (just retired.)) I‘ve seen firsthand what the union can do for those whose performance is ’less than motivated’. Needless to say, I was not very popular,,effective, just not popular.

      So let me get this straight, the protestors were told to “GET OUT”…… said NO, and the police say…….YOU CAN STAY we WON’T throw you out???!! So who ya gonna call now governor???       Participating in the protest in uniform is clearly wrong. In uniform, you represent ALL the citizens of Wisconsin, so protesting in uniform is using such to further a political cause. I’m pretty sure they have violated some of their own rules and I hope they lose their jobs for it.

      Remember that the original police and firemen were part-time community volunteers. If private sector jobs continue to go away, public sector jobs will also be lost. Out of hardship, new friendships with neighbors will be forged and community resources will be pooled on a shoe string budget. As the system breaks down, we will step-up.

      Applicants who already passed the exam are being told they will have to take it again as passing scores will be lowered than the curve they were already graded upon.       According to Dayton’s Daily News, Keith Lander, chairman of the Dayton chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference is embarrassed by this. The DOJ is “playing games” by lowering the test score, Lander said.

      “Lowering the test score is insulting to black people,” he said. “The DOJ is creating the perception that black people are dumb by lowering the score. It’s not accomplishing anything.”

      I could not have said it better myself. All people of color should be outraged over this when we do not expect the best out of our public servants and punish those who do perform well by denying them the opportunity to serve and protect.

They think its ok not realizing the taxpayers are just like them middle class just barely getting by. And no its not a rich/successful persons duty to just pay more.       I have to wonder if Obama is ready to send troops in to ‘protect the protesters’ and declare a martial law in Wisconsin, thus inititating the potential for more unrest in the nation, more pressure from up and down the line, and it being exactly what they want.

      I believe there will be infighting, but in the end, i believe those National Guard members will be loyal and faithful to their families and to their governors (God willing, right-headed if not Republican).
      I also believe the only defence left to America from the enemy within is the National Guard, and the “militia”….those willing to take up arms in defence of their communities.

      Damn. This is such a sad and bad time we live in now….

There have been similar “disaster plans”(for the aftermath of nuclear war) at the ready but this one is more radical giving too much power to the president. BHO added teeth to it by the creation of the Council Of Governors.

      This is a very concerning story to see police take a side like this when they should be neutral. Worst off it probably wont get too much media attention except from sites like this.       Why is it that these people feel that because they made a career choice that entitles them to privilages.
      For some reason I hear teachers, cops, and firefighters, telling sob stories on how they educate our children or secure our streets, wasn’t that a career choice?
      If they think is too dangerous or too demanding than why did they choose to do that?
      If I work manufacturing the ammo they use to protect themselves which also happens to be dangerous cause is explosive, does that entitles me to higher pay, higher benefits and privilages?

      Since the unions claim to provide so much support for thier members, how about the union itself be in charge of paying for healthcare and pensions for it’s members. They can simply quadruple thier monthly dues and stop spending dues income on political expenses. Let’s see how many people want to be a part of a union when more than half their paycheck is going towards paying pensions for older union members…maybe they’ll realize why taxpayers are so upset.

They are suppose to “serve and protect” instead they are being “SELF SERVING”.       @ MYSACREDHONOR……………First let me say I love and adore our troops and have the utmost respect. Many in my family have served in several conflicts including the current ones, but I have a slightly different opinion than you. Check out how the military was used in the Katrina disaster and violated constitutional rights time and time again under the ruse of Marshal Law. I understand order needed to be maintained. But it was not necessary or lawful how they behaved in the wake of Katrina. It was truly shameful in my opinion and truly scary as well. If I would have been a service man I would have refused orders to carry out what they were instructed to do. CM me if you want but even our service men are going to have to start standing up to unlawful actions as well as the police. The only problem is that many are indoctrinated with the false notion that they possess all authority when they are carrying out their orders. I know there are still many cops and service men with a conscience and they are going to have to start getting vocal !!!!

      From details I have heard the smoke was pretty thick in there…..wait about two weeks and drug test via hair sampling…….pretty sure illegal substance abuse is grounds for immediate dismissal. I’d advocate for all volunteer fire departments. I know several volunteers who need the extra money :)
