‘Hunger Games’ Star Jennifer Lawrence: ‘Screw P.E.T.A.’. P.E.T.A.: It‘s the Animals That are ’Screwed’

Jennifer Lawrence Says Screw PETA | PETA Responds

As if some people needed another excuse to fawn over Hollywood’s latest phenom Jennifer Lawrence.

The star of the smash hit “The Hunger Games” is grabbing headlines yet again, but this time not for her acting, but for her comments about PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), the radical animal rights group.

In short, Lawrence doesn’t seem to be a big fan. In a recent interview in Rolling Stone, she summed up her thoughts in two words: “Screw PETA.”

Lawrence got candid when talking about a scene in her breakout movie “Winter’s Bone” where she is seen skinning a squirrel.

“I should say it wasn’t real, for PETA. But screw PETA,” she told the magazine.

PETA wasn’t too happy, and decided to attack the 21-year-old star’s age.

“She’s young and the plight of animals somehow hasn’t yet touched her heart. As Henry David Thoreau said, ‘The squirrel you kill in jest, dies in earnest,’”  PETA’s Ingrid Newkirk told Gothamist. “We are told that this squirrel was hit by a car, but when people kill animals, it is the animals who are ‘screwed,’ not PETA, and one day I hope she will try to make up for any pain she might cause any animal who did nothing but try to eke out a humble existence in nature.”

The young actress spent a month in the backwoods preparing for “Winter’s Bone,” and she seems to have fallen in love at least somewhat with the lifestyle: she told Rolling Stone that once she‘s done with her next movie she’s “thinking about buying a house. And a big dog. And a shotgun.”

This industry will not allow this kind of behavior for very long.

There is very little tolerance for non-compliance.

I am in the United states Army and every year they come around and Coerce us into giving money to some charity. It’s called the Combined Federal Campaign. Think United Way on steroids. Anyway they have this booklet that list all kinds of different groups begging for money. Now I don’t want to give anything at all. But they kinda sorta insist. I found P.E.T.A. and saw that they spend quite a bit on direct mailings. So I gave them $1.00 and checked the box to send me mail. I figure I’m taking money from them in the end. Jokes on P.E.T.A.

When I saw gay and lesbian groups on the CFC list, I never gave again. I like letting the chain of command know that it is the reason that I refuse to give to them. If there were white supremecy groups on there, the military would not support it. I view gay groups just as bad as the white supremecy groups.

First: Never give contributions to National Organizations…….give to your own local shelter, etc. Ask:: If it costs more than 10-15% of contributions to run their organization, they are too top heavy with overpaid employees, and are not in it for the cause or animals; it’s payday for them.

I used to hunt. I ate the meat. What is wrong with eating meat? I was an excellent shot and except for one time, I shot and the animal dropped and felt nothing. However, I’m against people shooting wildly and wounding animals. I’m also against people who let their cats and dogs breed and do nothing to stop it, putting more animals into the world to be put down after they’re no longer cute little pets.
Mostly, I’m against people who mistreat their animals, using them for their own personal angers. Those people are the sick ones.

One day I hope PETA tries to make up for the very real pain it causes most of the adoptable animals they take in, and all of the viable animals that die because PETA targets their industry. Where does PETA think working horses go when they shut down racing venues, carriage rides, etc.? Horsie Nirvana? No, they go to the slaughter house, or they are abandoned to starve when their owners can no longer feed them because their business has been shut down. PETA does more harm to animals than Jeffrey Dahmer did. PETA isn’t about loving animals, its about hating people.

Haha, I am taking an American literature course at the moment and studying Thoreau. I am having the most terrible time interpreting what it is he is saying. I find that I Actually agree with much of what he says, same with Emerson, but I keep finding others interpreting what they say differently than I understand them. I wonder if it is them or I who is wrong. I could argue much about the sentiment they may have and the reasons for them having it. They speak of natural laws, and I would say that senseless killing may be in opposition to the spirit of life, but then again, there life cycles do continually go around and around. Even if it only a bacteria that benefits from the kill, we would not survive with out bacterias. While I do say that the person who acted out upon the senseless kill, or kill in jest, is really the only one who pays the price. But it is his price that he pays as his actions take away from his own spirit, not anybody else. As I had expressed in my one post in class, I believe it is arrogant of humans to believe they are so powerful they can “kill the planet”, for mother nature will only recycle us as she had the dinosaurs, and continue on. Who knows, what I do know is I will probably have my analytical post for class determined WRONG.. hehe but I Can’t help myself.

For 23 of those years I’ve known the truth about PETA… they are duplicitous domestic terrorists who, by the grace of God, have been, to date, just inept enough to not do any irrepairable harm. Hunting, and wildlife management is critical to the health of the planet. I can only pray that the Jennifer Lawrences of the world connect with the Ted Nugents of the world, thus relegating the likes of PETA into the depths of nothingness.

@ConservativeVegan I know what you mean, but give the commenters a bit of a break. It is so rare we hear anyone in Hollywood who dares to be irreverent to the church of political correctness. I think most of them are just blowing off steam.

Look, I devote pretty much all the time I’m not at my job working with rescue groups and as your quotation marks around your description of PETA suggest, you probably agree that PETA is less about animals and more about using victimization as a political wedge for an entirely different agenda. PETA would prefer to kill an animal rather than domesticate it. That’s who they are.

The big problem and the one supported by some of the more upsetting comments here is that all rescues and animal support groups tend to get tossed into the same muck as PETA and the real work we do gets lost.

I invite all the more nasty commenters here to visit Mark Levin‘s web site and note that some real conservatives can find value in God’s creatures and still be conservative.

TRUE conservatives see this world as a rare jewel that needs to be preserved. We are to be stewards – use the world’s resources as needed but do it with restraint, “conserving” it for our kids and grandkids. Isn’t it PETAful (couldn’t resist, sorry) that the collectivist icons of recent history – the USSR, those nations trapped behind the Iron Curtain, China, North Korea – and the poorest and “closest to nature” countries in Africa, have such abysmal environmental records. Through our industrial wealth and technological prowess, the US has been able to clean its air and water like few other countries. Yes, man as a herd can be stupid: the bison kills from trains in the 1800′s; hunting that drove species to extinction, but WE have learned, and, yes, some that initially cried the loudest were the tree-huggers. I will give them that well deserved credit, but the Gia worshipers today have gone off the deep end. They see mankind as a virus on mother earth that must be eliminated and controlled and, of course, THEY, the ENLIGHTENED ONES, are just the fools to do it. PETA and related groups are only using the emotional tug the left has so effectively used for years to rial up the “99%-ers” and others for the sole purpose of gaining and exerting power for power’s sake. Logic? There IS no logic, no time for transition. Look at the clean energy push: cut oil use cold-turkey with no established alternative. THAT nuts; THOSE are the fools driving us to destruction.

      Conservative Vegan -

      I respect your dietary choice.

The comments from the posters mostly reflect the reaction to the often arrogant and supercilious attitudes from vegetarians and particularly PETA supporters towards that those of us who are omnivores.

While I personally follow a live and let live philosophy regarding dietary choices, many of the PETA supporters do not. Years ago, while on an errand in a nearby city, I was confronted on a public sidewalk by several angry PETA supporters who were furious that I was wearing “leather” docksiders. Aside from their rudeness and obnoxious behavior, I ended up having the last laugh since my docksiders were 100% synthetic.

And regarding animal liberation, my two cats would like to say that while meals still are not served on their demand in this household, they enjoy the attention of three companions, have run of the house which they believe is their fiefdom. Trust me, their overall health and living conditions have improved tremendously since they both came in from the street a few years ago.

Actually, the quote is a good one. PETAs use of it is disingenuous at best.

I don’t think many conservatives would condone killing squirrels for fun or “jest.” For food (as the movie, no doubt, represents), but not for mere target practice. Most real conservatives respect God’s creation even while we flourish because of it. It is one thing that makes us respect freedom and individuality. Without that respect we descend just as quickly as the Marxist into violence and totalitarianism.

Really? Of course I know it’s fake.
My point is how PETA isn’t concerned with human deaths in movies inspiring murderers, yet worried that animal deaths in movies will inspire animal cruelty.

Remeber the old saying: Meat’s not meat until it is the pan”? PETA will starve to death because they don’t know how to get into the pan.

I have never met a hunter who isn’t very concerned with wounding a deer. We want clean kills. We don’t want our prey to suffer.

The plight of animals doesn’t touch my heart. That humble existence in nature includes killing and eating other animals. And if they can swing it, those poor critters will kill and eat PETA. Makes me smile just thinking about it. Though it’s still not heart touching.

Use a fermented pumpkin to get the squirrel drunk ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0so5er4X3dc ) and it would have a nice taste when stewed.

My cat kills squirrels for two reasons: A) a snack; B) they are very noisy when in a multitude and she is irritated by that chitter. You wouldn’t believe how they quiet down when one is caught! She leaves drunken squirrels to me, because she thinks that is the only state I can hunt them down. Which is considerate of her.
