Huntsman Pounds Perry on Global Warming & Fed Slams

WASHINGTON (AP) — Presidential candidate Jon Huntsman is pounding away at rival Rick Perry‘s skepticism of manmade global warming and criticism of the nation’s central banker, saying those stands hurt the GOP and make the Texas governor come off as a not so serious national figure.

Huntsman, a former Utah governor who was President Barack Obama’s first ambassador to China, has trailed in early polls nationally and in early voting states, leading his campaign to pledge more aggressive attacks on the top candidates.

Perry, who entered the race last weekend and has surged to a prominent role, has provided Huntsman with an ample opening to take shots.

Perry said in New Hampshire this past week that he didn’t believe in manmade global warming, branding it an unproven scientific theory. He also defended the teaching of creationism in schools because evolution “has some gaps to it.”

“When we take a position that isn’t willing to embrace evolution, when we take a position that basically runs counter to what 98 of 100 climate scientists have said, what the National Academy of Science has said about what is causing climate change and man’s contribution to it, I think we find ourselves on the wrong side of science, and, therefore, in a losing position,” Huntsman told ABC’s “This Week.”

Huntsman said he couldn’t remember a time when “we actually were willing to shun science and become a party that was antithetical to science. I‘m not sure that’s good for our future and it’s not a winning formula,” according to interview excerpts released Saturday ABC. The full interview is set to air Sunday.

Many conservatives question the evidence that shows climate change is happening and the government solutions to stem it.

Perry also took on the Federal Reserve and its chairman, Ben Bernanke, when he said the central bank’s leader would be committing a “treasonous” act if he decided to “print more money to boost the economy.” Such action, the governor told a crowd in Iowa, would amount to a political maneuver aimed at helping President Barack Obama win re-election.

Huntsman said he wasn’t sure that “the average voter out there is going to hear that treasonous remark and say that sounds like a presidential candidate, that sounds like someone who is serious on the issues.”

Trying to put Perry’s broadside in context, Huntsman said “people are crying out for us to get back to some level of sensibility and this just kind of perpetuates the name-calling and the finger-pointing and the blame game where we want solutions.”

“These sideshows,” Huntsman said, take “us that much farther off the ball” from the focus of fixing the economy and creating jobs.

      believing that “global warming” is not man-made, does not shun science. Scientifically, nothing is concrete or “proven” to show that it is man made. This is typical lib/dem/progressive way of arguing. They have a side of an issue that is not proven, but it can be used to further their destruction of America, or push towards socialism, or globalism. They then sit back, and call non-supporters, the non-intellectual.

      We can have global warming, without it being man made. We know for a fact that some of the so called science was skewed, and they intentionally misrepresented the truth. Global warming can be natural, the earth does have cycles of warming and cooling. Back n the 70s, we had the global cooling scare by scientists.

      Libs do the same stuff with evolution. They are deathly afraid to actually sit down and debatet the topic, because there is so much that they do not know, and a real debate brings that out. Instead, they sit back and call names.

      I think most conservatives believe that global warming is a hoax, just a way for Al Gore to get rich. If these global elitists actually believed the oceans were going to rise, and that we were responsible, why would they themselves have such a large “carbon footprint” and buy luxury homes on the coast? This just proves that Huntsman is Obama’s boy.

      The fact that humans are increasing in number on the planet will add to global warming. However, the earth has had ice ages over the ages–ice forms, ice melts–and that is a natural cycle. There are so many other factors–volcanic eruptions, sun flares, etc.–that affect the earth’s temperature more than human activity ever could.

      So far the ONLY candidate that looks like they would actually DO something for the American People is Bachman, the rest are there to divide and conquor.

Therefore, isn’t it arrogant of us to think that we are singlehandedly changing the earths climate when 2 or 3 good volcanoes in a row could do major damage?       If Huntsman’s mind is small enough to think that compromise towards tyranny (i.e.global warming/innocent fed) is of value he is sadly mistaken. Compromise is only of value if it is towards Liberty.

      The large eruption of the Tambora volcano in Indonesia in April 1815 caused what was called “the year without a summer,” with snow falling across the United States in July in 1816. And we are arrogant enough to believe that we can do damage to the earth. One volcano did this……It’s not rocket science to see that the silly God that we believe in could forever change the climate of our earth if He so chose with a couple of good volcanic eruptions.

      Who‘s paying the scientists’ paycheck…who’s providing the grant money…and who holds the purse strings for future ventures. These scientist have shown they are willing to skew their findings to fit their hypotheses and therefore everything they espouse is questionable. Weather is weather, it’s cyclical. I’ve now lived long enough to know that the long held “safe topic”, as opposed to politics or religion, is no longer that. Never have I heard the words, “Well this is certainly the most average summer/winter we’ve ever had.”

      @STUCK IN CALIFORNIIA Thank you for the link. I don’t think that there is much difference between Rick Perry and the Mitt Romney. The only thing that I see good about him is that he doesn’t buy into the evolution mentality. I know it’s not really relevant, but if there was such a thing as evolutuion, then why are there still monkeys or apes and how come scientists haven’t obseved any of them turning into humans. I think God created monkeys to see how many people would make monkeys out of themselves thinking that. (lol)

      You better check Ms. Bachmann’s voting record before you start saying she “is” a Constitutional candidate. She voted FOR the Patriot ACT and the second one as well.

      People!!! Get informed. Make an intelligent decision. Ask yourself this when you look at their voting record as you SHOULD because they always say one thing and do another, “What does the Constitution say on this?” What are the powers the Constitution gives the legislature to make laws on?       So much ignorance on display in these replies.

      The overwhelming majority of climate scientists disagree with most of you. You cling to ‘climategate’ as if it somehow invalidated all the evidence in support of the theory of human-induced warming – when that is absolutely not the case – go look it up. You accuse mainstream scientists of being motivated only by a desire for funding while ignoring that fact that most of the ‘decline’ reports are clearly fabrications funded by the fossil fuel industry.

      The comments about the very short-term impact of volcanic eruptions, and year to year temperature fluctuations are absolutely irrelevant to the actual science. Plus many seem to miss the fact that climate change does not imply a temp increase everywhere. It’s effects vary across the globe. I guess those kind of details are too bothersome to factor in to your thinking.

      Some of you also throw evolution in here, because I guess somehow it’s all the same thing right ? Just a marxist plot masquerading as ‘science’ ? Those who did make reference to evolution in this comment thread clearly don’t actually understand the theory itself, or they wouldn’t ask such ridiculous questions about it. Go look it up and if you still have doubts then ask questions about the actual theory itself, instead of the infantile simplification of it you seem to have sucked up.

      This is why we need Ron Paul. All these political issues are just distractions, and vote buying topics. Government should just move aside and let the people deal with these issues. The Ron Paul movement didn’t grow in numbers of “Druggie Punks” that the media likes to try to portray all Ron Paul supporters. If you re-watch all of Glenn’s shows from the past two years, you will see that Ron Paul stands for what this country was founded on. He has truly had the “Courage” of his convictions. He has not wavered in anything he has said. No doubt that this man will fulfill his oath and “defend the constitution”.

      Huntsman on “This Week” this a.m. : “I wouldn’t necessarily trust any of my opponents right now, who were on a recent debate stage with me, when every single one of them would have allowed this country to default… if we had defaulted, Jake, this marketplace would be in absolute turmoil…“Right now this country is crying out for a sensible middle ground. Right now we have people on the fringes…. We have zero substance.”

      He supports creating a competitive tax code that phasing out loopholes, lowering the rate, and broadening the base. He also said that another important step would be to work toward energy independence.

      Yep, he’s the guy. That’s where the Rove money will go.

      In the 70″s, we were buying 4×4′s becasue we were told the next Ice Age was upon us, the winters of 77 and 78 made scientists claim the earth was cooling and might not turn back. Now, to globalize the economy and bring the U.S. down with the rest of the world’s economies, we’re sold this “man-made, global warming” bunk – when the cooling takes place, we’re told “oh, we meant climate change”.

      Glad Perry has some stones to stand up to this idiocy – I like him more and more.

      Fact: The tree ring data has been further called into question not just because of the ridiculously small number of the sample( less then 10 ) but we now know that tree ring production is also effected by animals feeding on the bark of the tree. So tree rings can be affected by Drought,heat,cold and being feed on.

      FACT:

      There is more evidence that goes against global warming than there is that supports the theory. The theory of global warming was caused by whack scientists who actually faked their own data just to try and get away with it.       FACT:

      The existence of evolution is another crazy theory that cannot be proven due to the missing carbon based element in any explosion. If the big bang did occur than how did it occur with out the existence of some previous based matter, and if was some sort of matter before a big bang than where did that come from?

      I would also like to point out that as an LDS member myself I don’t see how Huntsman could believe in the theory of evolution. It goes against everything our church believes in and just makes me wonder what Huntsman is trying accomplish.

Now that he has outed himself as an “anthropomorphic global warming” dupe, he certainly can’t be a serious candidate.       As far as the Federal Reserve, the are quasi-Federal at best, and promote the interests of Wall Street and other multi-international banks and profoundly not the interests of the American people, lending money out for practically free to large and small bankers with the result that deposits of the American people earn as little as 1/20 of a percent. If that is not robbery, there is no such thing anymore.

If Everyone would just educated themselves and look up Agenda 21 and the Sustainable Developemnt and Smarth Growth agendas and see how far all of the Presidents of the US have implemented the UN Agenda into our lives and so many “sheep” of people suck it up under the guise of saving the earth from us humans.       As far as Huntsman and Perry and Romney for that matter, they have all implemented UN agendas in their states, they all are supporting the same agenda that Obama is killing the country with.       I agree with the other posters who are piling against Marcus J. Isn’t it obvious that there is a massive cover up being performed by the scientific community as a whole? In fact, what gives it credibility is that the enormity of posts/comments like ours that really show that America is not willing to listen to such nonsense! Global warming? Pshaw! I just went outside yesterday and it was cold outside! One other observation would be that other countries are trying to adopt green energy and conservation. Well, America is the greatest country and I say that we do not have to bow to inferior people that are born in Canada/Germany/Sweden/China who also do research. If you really want to know my opinion, I say we should open up the scientists’ finances! Let‘s see how much money they all gain from doing this ’research.’ I bet it all goes to their fancy schmancy green mansions! Who’s with me??

    I’m not sure what Hunstman and his people were thinking but it, evidently, had to do with a plan to turn off conservative, actual science minded, voters. For him to attack Perry for holding to actual scientific principle vs. more feel good, junk science. From what I gathered, Huntsman‘s entire argument with Perry isn’t that the science actually proves/ disproves man made global warming, but rather, that it isn’t popular with the masses to question it.

If you put a Therm on the top of a blacktop parking lot sheltered from any wind it will skew the readings.       We are talking about Huntsman, why are you bringing Mitt Romney up. Mitt’s position is very sound on global warming, he said man has probably contributed to global warming but too what extent he has no idea and neither does science. I think that is a very reasonable position.When Mitt was Governor of Massachusetts he withdrew his state from a National Greenhouse Gas Registry initiative because of the increased costs that would case his State’s residents. I believe this shows that Mitt Romney has an opinion on global warming but is very reasonable and hesitant when it comes to Governments role on the issue.

    The second challenge that Huntsman has about Perry is his views on man-made global warming. Perry said in the same N.Y. Times article, http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/08/18/perry-parries-hecklers-in-portsmouth/, that “I think the record is still out on whether global warming is man-made or not. I’m a skeptic.”

    This question of if he believed global warming was man-made was from State Representative Robin Read, a Democrat who sits on the New Hampshire Science, Technology and Energy Committee. Mr Perry gave a reasoned response, considering how many scientists have spoken out in the last 5 yrs whom also question mans role in global warming and the number of global warming researchers whose methodology has been challenged .

    Ever since Huntsman was governor of Utah I knew he was a RINO. Now the rest of the country gets to see it. Mr Huntsman is challenging Perry on statements he made at a single event that was covered by a New York Times reporter.     Ms Bunce using her son, Sam, to try to hurt Mr Perry with what she believed to be a ‘gotcha’ question about evolution. He gave a very reasonable response since he does not have a biology degree and I assume neither does Ms Bunce. But she was not asking him about his thoughts on micro evolutionary theory, which has clearly been proven by rigorous scientific testing. She was asking Mr Perry through her pawn, Sam, about his belief’s on macro evolutionary theory. This theory includes a belief that the earth is billions of years old and all life on earth has evolved from primordial ooze over hundreds of millions of years. Ms Bunce seems to be unaware that macro evolutionary theory is still a theory because it is still unproven after about a century of research. It is still full of holes and no more proven than creationism theory.

      I was amazed when Perry answered the Child/woman’s question and said he did not believe in
      the man made global warming. Minutes later Huntsman tweeted that he believed in evolution and the Scientist about global warming. Then said Call me Crazy…… I DID,,,,,, I CALLED HIM CRAZY IMMEDIATELY….. AS I THINK MOST ON THE RIGHT DID ALSO….. I absolutely could not believe he
      tweeted that and thought that was helping him….?????? I believe Huntsman lives on another planet.

      I bet his Dad is ashamed of him.. I was and I don’t even know him nor do I want to.

    At this point in time anybody that still believes in global warming is a fool. This whole climate change was and still is only about one thing MONEY and LOTS OF IT!!! If you think for one minute that men like Al gore are worried about the earth your an idiot.

    Please take just a little time to look up a man that started all this crap at the UN to begin with his name is Maurice Strong and he has set up car factory’s in Chine just waiting to fill the market for little cars that we all MUST drive to save the earth according to him and the IPCC at the UN.

    One more thing the UN says that rich country‘s must help poor country’s with what, ya you guessed it MONEY, TONS OF MONEY, the UN planes to tax us (Steal our money) and sent it to the poor country’s but not before all that money finds it way to the middle men at the UN so they can take their cut.

    Next it will go to the poor country‘s but before it makes it to the very poor people at the bottom who it’s supposed to be helping the leaders of the country will take their cut , so in the end the people who are supposed to get the money will end up with 5% of whats taken from us.

    Perry – is a liberal, he is a do-do-crat running as a conservative.

    Romney – O-bummer light, can you say Romney care and RINO.

    Bachmann – is unelectable, she can not get the women vote, the black vote, and when the men in this country figure out she can not walk and chew gun at the same time, she will not get their vote either.

    Paul – is the guy down the road you don’t let your kids near ( although he has good ideas, he will not get the vote for his looks alone )

    Huntsman – Sorry to say but yes in this country religion has alot to do with it, and while there is nothing wrong with his religion, well, i am one person, 50million other people think differently.

    I hate to beat a dead horse but we need to talk to as many people as we can and send a message that not only we need to get rid of people like Huntsman but also every progressive, communist, socialist and just about any other person who does not have the best interest of the nation. I hate to say it we must talk in our churches at every town hall in our community constantly and furiously. Drive people to trustworthy sites that provide political scorecard. It would be a disaster if we let any stone unturned.

    But prepare for the intimidation attacks. I have already seen a shift in some site where rhetoric has been tone down. One such site is http://www.FrontpageMag.com where the words communists and socialists have got me censored. I believe we should protest vigorously about this. We must be factual and keep profanity out of our rhetoric but not allow this kind of censorship to take place. As our good reverend would say, “Resist we much!!”

      Did you see the Democratic debates when Clinton ran for President the first time? The in-fighting between the Republicans so far is nothing in comparison. Clinton was downright nasty to the other Democrats. He was especially to vicious towards Dukakis.
      The Liberal media only points their fingers at the Republican disagreements and they try to hide the Democratic ones every primary.
