Huntsman Takes Shot at ‘Toxic’ GOP Race While Dropping Out, Endorsing Romney

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (The Blaze/AP) — Republican Jon Huntsman has dropped out of the GOP presidential race and has endorsed Mitt Romney.
Huntsman said the former Massachusetts governor gives the Republican Party its best shot at defeating President Barack Obama in the November general election.
After staking his candidacy on New Hampshire, Huntsman finished third in the primary there last week. He faced a likely defeat in South Carolina’s primary on Saturday.
“As candidates for our party’s nomination, our common goal is to restore bold and principled leadership to the White House,” he said. “Yet rather than seeking to advance that common goal by speaking directly to voters about our ideas … this race has degenerated into an onslaught of negative and personal attacks not worthy of the American people.”
“At its core, the Republican Party is a party of ideas. But the current toxic form of our political discourse does not help our cause,” he added. “Today I call on each campaign to cease attacking each other and instead talk directly to the American people.”
Huntsman’s resume had suggested he could be a major contender for the GOP presidential nomination. But the former Utah governor and diplomat found a poor reception for his brand of moderate civility, which he had hoped would draw support from independents as well as Republican moderates.
Huntsman announced his decision Monday in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Posted on January 16, 2012 at 1:40pmI really feel sorry for anyone that sent this guy money and really thought he had a chance. As are as his “toxic” comments. This is coming from the same guy team that made the horrible video with his daughters and tried to frame Ron Paul for it.
Another one down
Cain – gone
Bachman – gone
Huntsman – gone
Gingrich – soon to be gone
Perry – soon to be gone
Santorum – soon to be gone
This race is really between evangelical Ron Paul and Mormon Mitt Romney.
Dr. Ron Paul with real spending cuts, bring our troops home to protect our borders, and stop the government social engineering. Not to mention he will stop the Patriot act, NDAA, take the regulation off the American energy companies, stops the EPA, and sends the power of Washington back to the states.
Or
Romney who has changed his views on practically everything to make himself more appealing. He has been for bailouts, abortion, and gun control. Romney doesnt bring our troops home, wants war with Iran, and his budget proposal only cuts 30 billion from the budget first year.
I understand there isnt the “perfect candidate”. Certainly Romney looks the part but his actions prove he is just like the past leaders that got us into this mess. Ron Paul doesnt look or sound it, but his ideas are what we need.
Vote for real change. Vote for Ron Paul. Remember if the media is against someone, that more than likely means the person they are attacking is right.

Posted on January 16, 2012 at 2:25pmWe are all entitled to our opinions. But, many of the opinions on the Blaze have me scratching my head. As Republicans, I would think our #1 goal is to defeat Obummer.
It would be great if a 100% Conservative candidate could win the general election.
It would be great if a 100% Libertarian candidate could win the general election.
In reality, the chance of the above is slim.
If the purpose is to defeat Obummer then we need a candidate who can defeat
Obummer in the general election.
As Sean Hannity said, “I would vote for a potted plant if it could defeat Obama”.
Why are you all dumping on Romney when he is our best hope!
Maybe you would rather have Obama than Romney.
And please, spare your “they are the same” comments.
That is just not true.
Many of you are acting like spoiled brats. If I can’t have THAT candy, then I do not want any!
I do not believe for one second that those spewing hate against Romney, will like it if Obama
wins.
You are in dreamland if you think that Paul, Gingrich or Santorum can be successful in a general
election.
Romney may not be 100% to your liking. But part of a pie is certainly better than Obummer !
Next time you want to post a negative comment about our best hope, please think twice.
Then again, maybe many of you are Democrats in disguise.

It doesnt matter to me who wins if it isnt Ron Paul. He is the only one saying anything different. If you took a voice modifier and listened to Obama or the debates there is only one candidate that you could tell apart from the rest and that is Ron Paul.
So I am not in the “anyboby but Obama” camp. I am in the “anybody but a progressive, fake, globalist, big govt spender, social engineer, freedom attacker, war monger“ camp”.
So as I stated earlier, Ron Paul’s supporters believe in him and we are tired of the same old direction we have been going. If the rest of you refuse to wake up and steer this ship in the right direction then it will be MUTINY!!!!!
We are going to vote for Ron Paul so either get on the side of the mutiny or get four more with Obama.

Your line of reasoning is exactly why we keep getting candidates like Bush, McCain, and now Romney.
You also seem to think there is a big difference between Obama and Romney, when they are simply two different sides to the same NWO coin.
Romney has changed his positions more than he changes his holy underwear, and since he now says a few nice things about the constitution and the free market, you buy it hook line and sinker.
Romney spits on the Bill of Rights with his backing of the NWO’s NDAA and the immoral TSA.
Many just like myself have finally faced reality…and unless we hold their feet to the fire, we will continue to be offered nothing but a bunch of NWO shills who spew bold faced lies about their REAL positions.
Romney and his ilk talk about the Constitution…as they stomp and spit on it.
Take a look at just a few of Romney’s blatant flip flops, and then tell us if actions speak louder than empty words…used to fool people just like you.

“I WILL VOTE FOR HIM in the General. (This is why I expect the same for Paul supporters if he isn’t the nominee!)”
The reason you expect the same from us is because you do not understand how we got to where we are. You do not. I cannot emphasize this enough.
The Federal Reserve permits government to grow without you knowing. That’s its purpose. That’s why it was created. That has always been its goal.
NO OTHER CANDIDATE understands this. You are about to lose your country to the Marxist/Keynesian lie that government can help the economy grow. It can not. It never has, and never will – it can only benefit one group at the expense of another.
For 100 years, our country has been slave to Marxist ideology, and this is the reason we have a Dollar crisis.
Our country WILL be destroyed if we do not return to sound money, and Ron Paul is the ONLY one candidate who wants to do this.
Romney is also a Keynesian. Regardless of whether you think he was only for mandatory state-level health insurance or a general government mandate as Obama prefers, is irrelevant; They both believe government can help. That’s the problem.
Obama and Romney (or even Santorum) are NOT significantly different. All of them will lead to more economic turmoil and bigger government.
So, no, I will NOT vote for Romney if he gets the nomination. I will write in Ron Paul.

Why?
Bush was replaced with Obma, and he ended-up being no different (groping by the TSA, spying via the Patriot Act, indefinite detainment of American citizens without trial, and wasteful wars). Likewise all indications are that Romney will continue the same polices I just enumerated.
As for “beating”
Recent CBS Polls show that Romney will be defeated by Obama (~300 to 235 electoral votes), and that Ron Paul is the only one with enough support from blacks and young people to put Obama out of office

Romney doesn’t do anything that causes dramatic swings in his support.
He doesn’t have anything in his past that the left can use to vilify him, e.g. Herman Cain or Newt.
He is incredibly consistent, which is why you have seen his enemies try to turn this strength into a weakness by casting him as a “flip-flopper,” usually by comparing out of context statements which, when put in context, end up promoting the same position.
He is well spoken, forceful but not hateful, and he isn’t a loose cannon that say things that might alienate entire groups of voters (like “poor kids should work as janitors”). This quality becomes clear when you look at the obvious desperation in trying to find something to use against him. – “I like being able to fire people,“ and ”$10,000 bet.”
Now, I‘m sure you’re thinking “Ron Paul has these qualities and more.” I like Ron Paul, and I would happily vote for him. The problem is that some of what he says is volatile to most ears that don’t understand his position. The first thing I ever heard him say was “we asked for 9/11.” I understand what he means now, but I didn’t then. The average Joe looking up from his Doritos long enough to vote won’t understand, and the media sure isn’t going to help.
Bottom line is, I want to be sure about getting rid of Obama.

Perry is a likable guy but a bit forgetful but has a great tax plan for the middle class. Santorum seems likable enough and he is a sharp debater and I like his tax plan for the middle class. I find him the most honest and consistent. Romney is the golden boy by Wall Street bankers as he promises to protect their wealth. He will make no changes with taxes however for the middle class. He is the only candidate that I can say will not make things better for me tax wise and maybe healthcare wise as romenycare is equal to obamacare. I will vote for anybody but Romney. The ads had nothing to do with it. If it was the ads that caused him to drop in Iowa, then why did Newt’s numbers drop nationwide at the same time? Why did his numbers drop in South Carolina and Florida long before ads even starting running? The ads are an excuse for Newt to blame somebody for his own failings.
“Romney will make no changes with taxes however for the middle class. He is the only candidate that I can say will not make things better for me tax wise…”
Have you looked at Romney’s tax plan, or are you just “guessing” because he was CEO of Bain?
“… and maybe healthcare wise as romenycare is equal to obamacare.”
Romneycare is not equal to Obamacare; they aren’t even close to being the same thing. To say that they are is ludicrous on its face.

Posted on January 16, 2012 at 12:41pmHuntsman is equivalent to Bush…Golden spoon and all. He has a liberal education from the top liberal schools, sees the world through rose colored glasses, never had any worry about making a living, and he has no common sense as we know the meaning of common sense. (He is probably a real nice guy.) In years past, we had a phrase to perfectly describe his type and that was “Little Lord Fauntleroy”. Go ahead and google that phrase to learn about him and most of the other elites that have brought us to the brink of collapse.

Posted on January 16, 2012 at 12:35pmI think Mr Huntsman proves that if your going to buy an election you better have plenty of money. I’ll bet daddy decided that sucking sound in his check book was a little too annoying to waste the family’s fortune on junior’s dream of being a king.

What are they then? If they personify the Founding Fathers then none of these candidates reflect those ideas. The more these people open their mouths and talk and the more I study Americas original intent the more I realize how screwed we really are.

Just goes to show you that money doesn’t buy happiness. I just hope he doesn’t decide to try and get back into Utah politics. Please go buy a sailboat like Geraldo and sail around the world or something for world peace.

Posted on January 16, 2012 at 12:09pmI am greatly disappointed with Huntsman’s endorsement of Romney. The Progressives in the GOP are circling the wagons around protecting the globalist elite and their New World Order where global political power trumps sovereign nations and liberty.

Posted on January 16, 2012 at 12:20pmRINO’s stick together. it seems that as long as the party plant gets in, it doesn‘t matter if it’s republican or democrat, just so their policies all stay the same. Both parties are so far left that it‘s not a matter of who’s in power, because other then the R or D everything else stays the same. We need someone to take us back to the center, I don’t want extreme right or extreme left. Find someone who will follow the constitution.

Anyone who thinks there is a world of difference between the R‘s and the D’s needs only to look at the NDAA and the molestations handed out by the NWO’s TSA.
Ron Paul is the only exception, and even nnelG is trying to destroy him.

Posted on January 16, 2012 at 2:39pmOh no, tell your friends, the guy who wrote most of the letters in the Bible used to be someone who had people thrown in jail, beaten or killed for believing in Christ. That Paul guy, used to be Saul.
People are never allowed to change, or have a bad past.
Stop reading the blaze or listening to Glenn Beck because he used to do drugs and was an alcoholic.
Stop listening to many preachers or Christians, because they used to have a bad past as well.
Stop taking financial advise from most millionaires, because they used to be just average too.
Do you see my point, or do I have to keep on going. I don’t have a problem with you posting the link, but try to stay on topic, I believe this article isn’t about Santorum. I know he has a past, we all do, I have a sneaky suspicion that you have a past too. Right now, you are no better than those that post the dating site garbage on this site. As I said before, go back to huffpo, troll.

Posted on January 16, 2012 at 12:32pmIt’s NOT “Toxic!” It Is America’s Responsibility To Vet Our Candidates. And, if getting to the truth gets messy — So What!
Romney has the money to be the least vetted candidate out there. Others do the dirty work, while Romney wears his innocent face. If it takes a lot of Shake‘n It Up to find Romney’s real face — So Be It!
If anyone doubts the necessity of getting it down to who the candidates really are, Take A Look At The Occupy-er In Chief! BHO Still Isn’t Vetted! BHO Is A Corrupt Sociopath! And, He Is So Fired In November!
Be Wise America! Stop Drink’n Down The Romney Kool-Aid and Ask The Questions and Do The Research Until You Find The Answers. Romney Is Another BHO!

Posted on January 16, 2012 at 1:10pmYOUR SENSEI, Huntsman fails in so many conservative qualities much like those you mentioned. We are down to not much better in my humble opinion. Even had Huntsman won the nomination I would have held my nose and voted for him just as I did for Nixon, Ford, Bush 41, Dole, Bush 43, and McCain. Dang near had to wear a gas mask to vote for him. Regardless, I voted for them because they were in my opinion the far lesser of two evils in each election. So, anybody but 0bama is again the lesser of two evils.

We are broke and have had endless wars by picking the lesser of two evils candidates.
Its for mutiny!!!!
Ron Paul supporters are going to vote for him even if we have to write his name in. So either the candidate is Ron Paul. Or the “better than Obama” selection not Ron Paul will lose.

Posted on January 16, 2012 at 3:20pmMARTINEZ012577, I’ll only vote for Paul if he happens to be selected as the candidate. I would view him as the lesser of two evils, but not by much. While I agree with him on a few topics, I disagree with him on far too many. I also disagree with your simplistic view that such votes have gotten us into wars. The first president I voted for got us out of a war…that a Democrat President got us into, followed by two others who continued to proliferate it. Allow me to explain. Truman sent the first 300 troops to Vietnam from the 101 ABN Div while we were still engaged in Korea. Kennedy sent more troops disguised as advisors, and Johnson simply escalated the combat. While I agree that we cannot continue to try to be the world’s police, we also cannot become the proverbial ostrich either.
