Hurricane Isaac’s Winds So Strong It Forces Weather Channel Reporter to…Tebow on Live Television

New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow got a shout-out he probably wasn’t expecting during a Weather Channel report this morning. While broadcast meteorologist Jim Cantore was reporting from smack-dab-in-the-middle of Hurricane Isaac’s wrath, he did a curious thing — he Tebowed.
Cantore, who was on-air live from the streets of New Orleans, was visibly being tossed and battered by the storm. As he described the scene as having “some of the strongest winds” he’d seen all morning, he admitted that it was “really hard to stand up.”
So, rather than continuing to fight against the vicious weather, he squatted down and entered into the famed prayer stance that has solidified Tebow as a cultural icon. While some viewers might have assumed that the stance was accidental or by coincidence, Cantore’s comments solidified the connection.
“Whatever it’s worth, I hope I‘m makin’ Tebow proud,” he proclaimed.

Posted on August 29, 2012 at 3:51pmIt’s called kneeling. My gosh, you’d think that Tebow invented it.

Posted on August 29, 2012 at 8:42pmNot invented it but one of the very few who is willing to stand up, and kneel down to show his faith. That takes nerve in this day of athiests who are so afraid of a God they don’t believe in that they fight it at every opportunity and in some cases claim that God makes them physically sick.

Posted on August 29, 2012 at 10:56pmYour an idiot. Do you have a clue if any of these players is atheist or do you just assume that any person who gets in trouble is an atheist. I guess in that case I should assume that every horrible quarterback is religious.

Posted on August 29, 2012 at 3:00pmTWC and the rest of the media could save a fortune by just using stock video of ANY hurricane. It all looks the same. And they could avoid having one of these bozos swept out to sea. Then again, let ‘em keep doing it…

Posted on August 29, 2012 at 1:55pmHistrionics may boost their ratings, but I’ve seen first hand how it skews perception of the storm. I’ve seen weather people stand in what amounts to a normal ocean wind (cue the terrible sound that it makes when it passes over a microphone), gripping their gear for all it’s worth, and then the moment the scene is over, they turn loose and walk away. They make theater. It’s their job. I’ve had my straw hat blown away by the beach wind on the prettiest and sunniest of days. And beach winds blowing across the microphone has ruined more than one personal beach video.
I wouldn’t mind all this except that it is dangerous in two ways. First, you have people who don’t know about storms panicking. Panic in a tense situation is never good, but it sure drags in the nervous viewers! I don’t like to see peoples’ fears exploited for ratings. Second, there are those, like me, who want absolutely accurate, bottom-line information, and the theater is dismissed for the hyperbole it is. It is not good for weather people to cry wolf and then leave real and true danger unperceived by an audience jaded by their over-the-top grabs for viewership.
I learned early on to concentrate on actual visuals, radar images, projected path charts and technical updates. Yes, storms get bad and it’s not all histrionics, but that is all the more reason they need to keep it a little more real so that viewers know the situation for what it REALLY is. That would be the responsible thing for

Posted on August 29, 2012 at 1:39pmI liked his tribute to Tebow but I can’t understand why every broadcast network feels it is their duty to have someone standing out in the storm. In this case you could see from the camera how bad it was without having someone stand there. This seems pretty darned stupid to me although if I were younger I’d be out there just to see what it felt like.

Posted on August 29, 2012 at 12:40pmI will say, that the people that did not evacuate are selfish, ignorant people. They ALL had a WEEK to rent u-hauls, and get ALL their belongings into it, and LEAVE. I mean, How STUPID and SELFISH ARE these idiots????? Seems like they WANT their insurance companies to have to pay for EVERYTHING….even that which they had PLENTY of TIME to SAVE!!!!! DISGUSTING!!

Posted on August 29, 2012 at 2:07pmBefore making such a sarcastic comment, it would behoove you to know the demographics of those that did not leave. Did you ever consider that some might not have the physical or financial ability to rent that trailer, load up their stuff, and go? And where should they go? I’ll concede that there likely were some that were just as you described, but also just as many that simply had no way of accomplishing it, plain and simple.

Posted on August 29, 2012 at 11:13amCantore is an absolute glutton for this. He often refers to himself as “Mr. Weather.”
I remember about 15 years ago, my roommate and I were laughing our heads off at him on the North Carolina coast during some hurricane or another. He was FACING THE WIND and of course the raindrops were hitting him in the face and eyes (do these jerks not know what safety glasses are for?). He was doing his live broadcast as these tiny H2O projectiles were pelting him at fastball speeds, and he couldn’t finish. He stopped in midsentence and turned away, whimpering “my… eyes… it’s like getting hit with tiny rocks…” DURRRRRRRRR! You’d think Mr. Weather would have known this before he endeavored to try to blind himself.
I have no pity for media types who put themselves in harm’s way for no reason by self-glorification. They are ridiculous, and that’s not courage, it is vanity.

Posted on August 29, 2012 at 11:05amWe can credit the repressive drought for keeping this hurricane from getting worse. Looks as though the dry air is being sucked into the core and is slowly killing Isaak, preventing it from growing much past low CAT-1 strength. In a way, it’s unfortunate because the area needs more rain and moisture. Hopefully this will push north into the Kansas-Missouri-Illinois area where cities are restricting water use.

Report Post »Another example of this happening is when Jesus was about to be taken to Pontius, the pharisees and disciples were around Christ when one of the pharisees asked for Jesus. He responded, “I am He”, and at that instant, everyone’s knee hit the ground. (I picture this like an atom bomb/mushroom cloud going off).

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 2:36amMinor correction/clarification. The AV1611 has that as I am (he) (“he” being italicised). Italicised words in that translation were added by the translators for grammatical clarity (in thier opinion). The Textus Receptus has the phrase as “legei autois ego eimi”. A bit lacks i not being able to type the greek here, but transliterated “TELLS THEM I AM” with the indication contained that the speaker is Jesus. “I AM” of course refering all the way back to Moses and the burning bush. There are about seven other places in John’s Gospel that the insertion of the pronoun “he” changes the nature of the exchange. In John 8:58 “Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.”. The reaction of the Pharasees make it clear they understand that he is claiming Diety at that point.

The local news showed the actual protest, there were about 50-70 people, but the National news had them all crowd together and took a very tight shot. after the actual story got out, I believe it was ABC, came out and made a correction, of course after they had been embarrassed.
