Hurricane Looters Caught on Video During Local TV News Report

Over the last 24 hours Hurricane Irene caused four deaths, extensive flooding, and widespread power outages across Virginia. While most residents banded together with local, state and federal authorities during the storm, two men decided to rob the home of one of their neighbors. The suspected thieves are now behind bars after walking behind a live local newscast as they stole an iPod speaker and alcohol from the home of a neighbor who had left during the mandatory evacuation of the street. WVEC 13 reports:
“Police say the two men stole alcohol and an iPod speaker system from a home in the 3200 block of Sandfiddler Road. The men live just a few blocks away in the 3200 block of Sandpiper Road.
It happened shortly before 4:00 Saturday afternoon as 13News was reporting live at the scene where several homes had been damaged during a small tornado. It turns out, the photographer caught the looters on video.
Police had been patrolling the Sandbridge area because of the storm and were able to get to the scene quickly. They chased one of the men on foot and also found the second man at the same house.”
The man who walks by has in his bucket the allegedly stolen alcohol. Patrick McGuire, 29, and Charles Andrews IV, 22, are now being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center facing burglary and grand larceny charges.
WVEC reports that the stolen items were recovered and returned to the victim.
Other brazen Hurricane Irene looters in Virginia Beach are still on the run. Store security video caught two men breaking into a jewelry store on Virginia Beach Boulevard stealing $2,000 worth of jewelry. The store’s owner hopes that releasing the video will lead to an arrest and told WAVY 10;
“All I can tell these people, if they’re watching is…get a job!”
