NEW YORK (The Blaze/AP) — Jon Stewart gleefully struck back Monday night at the former CNN host who was fired after calling him a bigot.
In his opening spot on “The Daily Show,” Stewart told his Comedy Central audience that, after taping last Thursday’s edition, he had heard Rick Sanchez interviewed on a radio program.
“I think Jon Stewart’s a bigot,” Sanchez was heard declaring in the taped replay.
“Omigod!” Stewart glowed from his anchor desk. “Rick Sanchez knows my name!”
Stewart replayed another excerpt from the radio interview where Sanchez sneered, “I’m so glad that (Stewart) grew up in a suburban middle-class New Jersey home with everything that you could ever imagine.”
Grinning slyly, Stewart said Sanchez “really nailed what it was like growing up in central Jersey in the early ’70s, the fortunate son of a single mother in the education field.”
Then, after playing back the portion of the interview where Sanchez questioned whether Jews should be considered an oppressed minority, Stewart, who is Jewish, acknowledged that had made him angry. He was angry, he explained, because “The Daily Show,” which doesn’t tape on Fridays, couldn‘t make sport of Sanchez’s outbursts until Monday — “and there’s no way this cat survives the weekend at CNN.”

Stewart was right, of course. By Friday afternoon, CNN had announced Sanchez was “no longer with the company.”
Sanchez, who was born in Cuba and had worked at CNN since 2004, was host of the two-hour “Rick’s List” on CNN’s afternoon lineup. He had done a prime-time version of that show in recent months but lost that time slot as CNN prepared to launch a new show featuring former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer and columnist Kathleen Parker. It premiered Monday.
Several times in the past, Stewart had poked fun on the air at Sanchez and what Stewart called “his extremely pokeable show.”
Another poke on Monday: Stewart played cleverly edited clips of Steve Carell as foolish boss Michael Scott from “The Office” interspersed with strikingly similar real-life clips of Sanchez chatting up CNN co-workers.
“Carell is leaving ‘The Office’ (after this season), NBC is looking to replace him,” trilled Stewart. “Sanchez is available!”
However, Stewart ended the Sanchez segment by suggesting that the media may have over-hyped the incident. “If CNN got rid of Rick Sanchez because they didn’t like his show, fine — we weren’t that crazy about it either,” said Stewart. But for “Jew baiting?” “I’m not even sure Sanchez believes what he’s saying.” Stewart then played a clip of Sanchez calling out a “real” bigot.
“Rick Sanchez, consider yourself unbusted!” Stewart yelled.
Longtime newsman Bernard Goldberg agrees. Appearing on last night’s “O’Reilly Factor,” he said Sanchez became merely expendable after the departure of CNN president Jon Klein. Speaking as “a charter member of God’s chosen people,” Goldberg told O’Reilly, “I don’t think he should’ve been fired… nobody gets fired in television unless management wants them fired for some other reason anyway.
According to a report from Mediaite, Sanchez has apologized to Stewart. Sanchez’s wife posted the following message on her Facebook profile:

Posted on October 5, 2010 at 12:54pmUh oh Rick miscalculated . He thought his minority status (he’s not white ,really ? Cuban I guess)outranked Jon’s minority status (Jewish ,he’s not white either ? really?)and he could attack him no problem ,guess not .It’s complicated being a progressive ,you have to know who you can attack based on where you stand on the PC scale .Jon is a leftwing darling so he gets a few extra points and Rick looks really white so he looses a few points ,had he been a little darker skinned maybe he could have pulled it off . Now had rick been a black (sorry, African American)female ,lesbian ,transvestite he could have attacked anyone up to and including THE ONE Barrack um um um Obama.Rick chin up there is always MSMBC and they will take anyone if they can bring viewers and we all know Rick can bring atleast 5 or 6 of them with him ,doubling MSMBC’s viewership. I prefer being a simple right leaning guy and just taking people for who they are and treating them accordingly

Posted on October 5, 2010 at 10:34amI do beleive that Sanchez acted STUPIDLY.. but that’s nothing new.. I watched him a couple of times personally I found HIM biased AND self-serving.. but that’s just my take since I know how to use the remote I just turned him OFF.. I do however wonder if the MEDIA wasn’t carrying a message he wanted to get out or he missed a promotion due to his BAD ratings that made him go after them.. I do like it when the liberals strike each other with race and bias however.. since they are the ones who claim the REPUBLICANS and T.E.A. parties are the ones who do that.

Posted on October 5, 2010 at 10:28amYou’re right. Beck has never been guilty of this… oh wait.
Beck on his famous “Obama is a racist” quote:
“I don’t want to retract… I want to amend that I think it is much more of a theological question,” Beck said. “He is a guy who understands the world through liberation theology — which is oppressor and victim. Racist was, first of all, shouldn’t have been said. It was poorly said.“ After referencing his ”big fat mouth,“ Beck acknowledged ”that’s just not the way people should behave. And it’s not accurate.”
Amend not retract? Sanchez could probably give Beck a lesson in the art of the apology.

Posted on October 5, 2010 at 9:10amIf I had to put up with John Stewart every say, I think I would lose my mind. I’d watch wild animals kill each other before I would watch John Stewart. The few times I have seen him, he is arrogant and I don’t find him funny!
As for Rick Sanchez, maybe being a talking head is not the career for him. I only saw him once and he was very intense in my opinion. If every one of the nitwits got fired for down talking Glenn Beck, who they fear do to his popularity and intelligence, we would have no one in the news rooms.

Posted on October 5, 2010 at 8:46amI watched him a few times when Ol Shep was on and ranting about BP. Like he actually knew what was going on. But I had to go back to Ol Shep, Rick didn’t ask the right questions when he was on the air. Hopefully he will find another job, but it probably won’t be anchoring somewhere unless one of the medias is really hard up for an anchor. Then it won’t last. But I have to agree with Stewart on this one. He shouldn’t have been fired for these comments. I have heard a lot worse from other anchors. He got canned because his show wasn’t getting the ratings that it should have.

Posted on October 5, 2010 at 8:42amI find it very interesting that Sanchez’ wife defends his remarks because he was tired. Perhaps all the people that both Sanchez and Stewart have ridiculed and made fun of could use the same excuse. Television hosts are responsible for their words and actions just like anyone else. I personally think many of them are just highly paid bullies. I see nothing funny about the so-called comedians and hosts who bully. We are fighting such people in our schools, why not the media? Get rid of the ones who hurl insults and bully. It isn’t funny or entertaining.

Posted on October 5, 2010 at 8:40amThis reminds me of Saturday night live and they consider this a form of news. That s why people are so confused today between the spinning of words and all the stupid news anchors using words as weapons . I hope it will get all of them fired so maybe we can get back to the truth and not their opinions .

Posted on October 5, 2010 at 8:34amPoor Rick, he thought because he is a Hispanic man (protected species) he was given wide berth. He could taunt and spew hate because he was untouchable. Hey Rick, the tide is turning, now the hateful will be dealt with with quickly and swiftly. You guys are always pointing the finger at conservatives saying that they hate. No, the conservatives simply and always point out the facts. True, sometimes the truth does tend to hurt and offend but it is always true.Maybe now that you have some down time you can search for yourself, your inner self and maybe have reality slap you in the face.

Posted on October 5, 2010 at 7:59amI have never seen Sanchez’s show, but from what I have heard of his comments it does sound like he may have a future at MSNBC. Most of the shows I have seen there don’t sound much different than what he had said. I would guess that CNN was looking for any reason to axe Sanchez and didn’t have the fortitude to tell him outright so they used a “crisis” of opportunity.

Posted on October 5, 2010 at 7:53amWhat?! That whole bit and no mention of Glenn Beck? Stewart is slipping. Must be nice that you’re whole schtick is predicated on picking apart other peoples words and then over-reacting when they respond to your ridicule. Do you have to go to college for that? Given the talent required, I think it might be a program on Obama’s recent community college push.

Posted on October 5, 2010 at 8:44amI hate to say it, but we hear people all the time criticizing Glenn having never heard his show. Let‘s be careful we don’t start leaning left without realizing it. Never seen or heard Sanchez but don’t agree with the things (in print) that he says, and think his wife making excuses for him is pathetic. If anyone ought to be tired and a little loopy it’s Glenn with the schedule he keeps, and yet, he doesn’t make stupid comments. As for Jon Stewart, I still don’t think he is quite the person he portrays himself to be. At least I’d like to think that since he is living the capitalist dream.

Posted on October 5, 2010 at 10:24amFirst of all, Glenn Beck makes stupid comments all the time. My all time favorites: saying the President has a hatred of white people and suggesting a Muslim congressman might be working for the enemy. He has apologized for those comments, so clearly he does say stupid things.
Secondly, how did Beck even get into this conversation? No one wants to give Stewart credit for giving the Sanchez the benefit of the doubt and playing clips where Sanchez denounces racism? For saying that Sanchez does not even believe the terrible things he said?
Of course, we know that Beck definitely isn’t one to give his enemies the benefit of the doubt, or to even present their comments within context, so I see how this “high road” might be unfamiliar to many of you. It seems to me that Stewart has just given Beck and his ilk a little lesson on how to be a Christian and “turn the other cheek.”

Posted on October 5, 2010 at 2:21pmIt’s easy to see why Beck came to that conclusion about Barack Hussein Obama. Obama says everything you need to know how he feels about whites in his books!! Progressives didn’t really believe Hitler actually believed the things he wrote in his book either.

Posted on October 5, 2010 at 3:43pmWhich progressives are you talking about? Perhaps FDR and Truman, those guys who defeated Hitler?
What Beck said is indefensible, and just plain stupid (he has said so himself). Perhaps you shouldn’t swallow everything you hear from that guy.
