‘I Am Going to Shoot You’: Third Explosive Canton Cop Video Emerges

Remember Officer Daniel Harless, the Canton, Ohio, police officer who was caught on video threatening to kill citizens? Well, he’s back in a new video that some say corroborates the notion that he has abused his power and built a track record of violent threats.

Back in July, The Blaze brought you the first disturbing video. It wasn’t long before a second clip featuring Harless’ death threats on citizens emerged. In the latter footage, he purportedly yelled, “I’ll kill every one of you motherfu**ers!” Below, you can watch this older video that The Blaze featured earlier this summer as a reminder of just how intense his threats were (warning: language):

Now, after an anonymous source tipped off the Canton police chief, a third offsetting video has been made public. Newsnet5.com frames the events that occur in the clip as follows:

Officer Daniel Harless and his partner pull a car over for no apparent reason. After interrogating the passengers inside about their activities, you hear Harless threaten one passenger.

A police officer’s voice (it appears to be Harless’) can be heard saying, “If you scratch you balls wrong, I’m going to pull my gun and I am going to shoot you.” Below, watch the recently-released dashboard video (the death threat can be heard around 4:50):

WEWS-TV has a full report on this new threatening video:

As it turns out, Harless is no stranger to internal affairs investigations. He’s apparently been cleared of 18 of them since 2001. But despite these issues, Chief Dean McKimm has claimed that “there was no evidence Harless was a problem.”

In addition to angry responses from concerned citizens, William E. Bartlett, the man who was threatened in the first video, set off an internal investigation when he filed a formal complaint against Harless.

As a result, internal affairs has found the Canton cop guilty of breaking three rules: deportment, cooperation with the public and treatment of individuals in custody. Here are some highlights from the internal affairs report, as published by CantonRep.com:

“Officer Harless’ conduct … has brought disrepute upon himself and the Canton Police Department.”

“The volatile attitude that Officer Harless displays (during the traffic top) … has gained negative national media attention towards these officers and the Canton Police Department.”

“The Canton Police Department’s operation and efficiency has been impaired due to negative phone calls and emails that have been fielded by its members (regarding the case).”

This report, which is clearly unfavorable to Harless, has been given to Safety Director Thomas Ream. A disciplinary hearing is set for September 7 during which the controversial police officer’s fate will be decided. His punishment could range from 30 days off the job to being fired.

Back in June, Harless was put on administrative leave, but has now begun using his sick days. In either event, he will continue to receive pay until a decision regarding punishment is made.

Steroids make your muscles big, but they cause rage issues and shrink your wee-wee. Someone should have warned this sorry excuse for a public servant. Normally I tend to side with the cops, but when they stop acting as an officer of the law, and become the law unto themselves they’ve got to go. Just the part in the original video where he threatens to “put lumps on” the female passenger if he sees her again should get him jailed for vilolating her civil rights, instead of only reprimanded or fired. His partner should be the one facing reprimand for not speaking up.

      .
Harless had 16 complaints from citizens.
How many times have you complained about cops? Me neither.
So for 16 people to come forward, he must have abused 200.
I‘m no longer surprised at the Harless’s on the force.
I’m surprised and disappointed that no other cop complained.
“Hey, this guy is going to kill someone, and I won’t be part of it.”
      None. They covered for him.
The Chief needs to be fired too.

I agree with your post Secret Squirrel. This guy is a loose cannon and will probably go postal when he gets canned! Perhaps that’s the reason the Canton PD has kept him on. Unfortunately I don’t see a very good outcome with this lunatic of a police officer. Canton PD should have done something about him a long time ago. They‘ve stated they don’t approve of his behavior yet have kept him on. Someone will die at the hands of this guy and Canton PD will have blood on their hands.

As an ex-cop, I’ve seen a lot of cops like Harless.

Foremost, this is about Fear, which manifests the Anger behind his actions. Anger and Fear are essentially the same response to a situation. Anger is the outbound reaction and Fear is the retained, imploding form of the Anger. In other words, he‘s overreacting because he’s SCARED. And he’s been scared all of his life; hence, he’s been overreacting to thing and using Anger as a way to express that Fear, all of his life.

Wow. I’m not sure where any of that came from.

You do know we had a long period in our history, and even further back if you go by European history, without “cops”. There were Shire Reeves (Sheriff) but the onus of defending oneself and one’s property fell on the individual, primarily, not the omnipresent state. Research anglo-saxon laws and customs. This uniformed cadre of thugs we call police are a very, very modern invention.

Real men carry guns and have honor and provide for their own safety. They don’t need a roid rage idiot with a state badge to feel safe.

This individual’s behavior is dangerous and out of control. We have every reason to be concerned that this conduct will escalate until someone really is hurt at some point. The Chief obviously has not so far given this issue the serious attention it deserves. Please make sure he gets the point…

In every occupation, there are bad apples, there are also good people trying to do an honorable job. What I am trying to get across is we should not paint all as bad because of a few screwballs. Get the bad cops out and reward and respect the good cops.
And I add this; Not all truck drivers are good drivers!
Since 1914, my great-grand father, grand father and father was never on the wrong side of the law and never had a problem with the police or highway patrol. If they were to be pulled over, it would have been their own fault. That is what they taught me and I listened, and I prospered from their good example.

The problem with cops like this guy, even if he is fired from this department another department will hire him. As a matter of fact i saw a program done by Dateline on another cop just like this one who was fired for the same thing, he just picked up and mover one county over and that department hired him. The point of this was, there is no nation wide data base listing bad cops that department’s can go to to check out a new hire to see if they have had any problems before they hire them other wise these guys will keep getting jobs in law enforcement over and over and we the public pay the price.

typically every cop on the force knows what is going on, and ignores their duty to enforce laws against their “komrades”. That alone tells you everything you need to know. Usually some cop pipes in about how its rare, and people that are scared of the cops must have done something to deserve police assault. All of which shows more of how the cops protect their own

Time to either clean the ranks, and start arresting your fellow cops when they do something like this, or be prepared for the eventual backlash from the public.

Many cops are good people, but the trouble is that the bad ones are increasing in numbers, and with all the new laws put in place by our traitorous politicians, it is a recipe for disaster. Years ago, I would think nothing about my safety if I was pulled over by a cop without witnesses, but now, I would give serious thought about the chance of being attacked or killed by a thug who happens to be wearing a badge. Folks, its just a matter of time before your safety will be in just about as much jeopardy having a cop accost you, as it is to have the stereotypical punk wearing a hoodie.

@HOLOGRAM5……actually, it’s not a bunch of “crap” as you put it. I have had several friends and relatives who have served in law enforcement, and many people like you think it would just be a simple thing for the good cops to get rid of the bad ones…not so….The good cops are quickly becoming a minority within the ranks of the law enforcement community. These people are surrounded by bad cops, bad supervisors, bad policy and in many cases, their own unions. When you are trying to keep your job, make a living for your family and hopefully do some good, its made much more difficult to stand up for whats right, when you are constantly the victim of the pressure to conform that is ever present.

In law enforcement today, if you are a moral person, you either keep your head down and do the best you can, or you get out….there is no choice to do something grand like stand up and fight the corruption you see, because you know that if you do, you will be totally outnumbered and open to having your career and reputation destroyed.

It wasn’t “us” who allowed communism to gain the foothold it has in this country today. It was the so-called “greatest generation”, whose ideas that “government can do no wrong” and “government will save us” led them to not question the actions of their leaders.

Eisenhower warned them of the problem. They did not listen. They sold us down the river.

Years ago, before the interstate highways were completed, Canton had a reputation as a monumental speed trap for those crossing the state. The speeding tickets were a major source of income for the city. (Speed limit was 35 miles/hour.) Now that the interstate has taken away this major source of income, they’ve got to do SOMETHING to replace it.

I’ve done background investigations for wanna be applicants. It pained me to see one get through that gave a black eye to the whole of LE. You did your best but some could just hide from the polygraph questions and even the interview with the shrink that they had a latent tendency for excessive control/power manipulation. As I don’t do that at all anymore, I just say: This is one out of control man and no way should he be allowed to carry a weapon in or out of uniform. He is whacked.

Just a question from the end of the video…is the guy that he pulled over last, and conditionally threatened, is the same guy that fought with him when he had arrested him previously and attempted to bite this officers finger off? That’s how I heard it. I’d have to say that if I were an officer and knew that the guy I just pulled over was the guy that attempted to bite my finger off, I’d be setting the stage to my advantage quickly. I do question the history of his temper and even question the wisdom of pulling this last vehicle over. However, with only the segments of video showing the stop and his outbursts, and no video of what preceeded those things, its tough to make a truly educated call on it.

Not disagreeing with you or defending him. I’m just saying there is a lot of supposition when we only get to see a few seconds of a several moments long video clip. What did the officer say he pulled the guy over for, does the video support that. What does the partner say. This happened in December, is there any evidence from the traffic stop that there was impaired driving, warrants for his arrest, vehicle matching the description of a vehicle involved in a crime. We all know that things can be taken out of context and it would be nice to know the facts.

Not disagreeing with you or defending him. Just saying that without the whole video and knowing all of the facts, its supposition. With just a few seconds of a video clip, out of context, who really knows what happened? What was the reason he was pulled over? Did the video support that? Was there subsequent evidence of an impaired driver or a warrant on the owner. Did the vehicle match the description of a vehicle used in a crime? Is this a high drug/prostitution area and the occupants were acting suspicious? Obviously the officers history comes into question, but knowing all of the facts goes a long way.

I work in CLE but live in Lorain County. I have no sympathy for them thought. There are crappy people living in crappy conditions with crappy cops who often are injured or killed by the crappy criminals. The crappy government and crappy courts promugate the situation. Point being is that every single one of them get exactly what they deserve. Once you get out of Cuyahoga county Ohio is pretty cool. But that county is awful. In the Soviet Republic of New Jersey, the police do not act much different than the SS or Gestapo. They now have the same immunity as the German Gestapo and Stasi had.
