‘I Apologize’: Bristol Palin’s Bar Heckler Buckles Under Negative Media Coverage (Plus: Bristol Responds)

The dust finally seems to be settling on the epic verbal battle that unraveled between Bristol Palin and heckler Stephen Hanks. Just days after Hanks got into an altercation with Palin, then reiterated his offensive comments, he is now curiously apologetic.

As you may recall, the 47-year-old attacked Sarah Palin’s oldest daughter last week, calling her mother “evil” and a “whore,” among other unbelievably offensive insults. You can watch the original battle unfold here:

And below, find a TMZ interview with Hanks, who, even a day after the dramatic exchange, appeared more than unrepentant:

In an official statement released to E! News by Hanks’ lawyer, he has now decided to apologize for the incident. The statement reads:

“Having had an opportunity to view the camera footage of the incident this past Thursday at the Saddle Ranch Bar & Chop House in West Hollywood, and having reflected on the incident over the weekend, I have come to the conclusion that no matter what my feelings are towards Sarah Palin, I should not have expressed them towards her daughter, Bristol Palin. [...]

I am very passionate about politics, and believe in equality for all Americans. I expressed my feelings in an improper manner in the heat of the moment, and allowed my emotions to get the better of me. [...]

I apologize to them for my poor judgment that night, and to Bristol for any hurt my actions may have caused her. I wish Bristol success with her television show, and much happiness in the future.”

Palin’s camp also responded, with her rep telling E! News the following:

“She was approached in a confrontational and inappropriate manner when two men aggressively shouted expletives aimed at her in reference to her mother.

Bristol responded to the unprovoked verbal assault by calmly standing her ground and defending her family.”

And directly, via Facebook on Tuesday, Palin also decided to address the controversy in her own words. Below, see a screen shot of her full comments regarding the matter:

So it seems the entire drama has come to an end, with Hanks accepting responsibility and apologizing. While his statement may be a few days too late in the eyes of many, it’s better late than never, right?

      The power of the MSM to malign a person forever in the eyes of the general public should not be underestimated. Us normal folks would not think about making false accusations and trying to convince others that our opinions are in fact…facts. This hate filled man as she puts it, is the by product of hate spewed by the MSM towards Ms Palin and her family. This guy has fallen for it just like so many other millions of people around this country have. It just shows you that history can repeat itself when a propaganda campaign against a person or persons is set in motion. Those of us who know our history will be reminded of the campaign the Nazis launched against the Jews who up until the 1930s got along well with their German counter parts. They were shocked as well as we are that bad things began to happen against them in small steps at first. The Left is getting meaner by the day, they look for ways and methods to attack the right and moral in this country. We stand in the way of their ultimate power over the rest of us. Once they get that power, they will crush this country and those in it. Sarah, a none too bright failed politician with a terrible temper, and not much common sense (I mean, who gets on a plane to fly across country when you are in labor? That is just plain odd.)       I believe it‘s her stance on issues such as DADT’s repeal (she wanted it kept in), same sex marriage (against), same sex benefits (against). As her daughter pointed out though, it’s one thing to attack positions and another entirely to attack the person. I have to admit, Bristol’s write-up on the entire thing was really well-done. I don’t care for the Palin family (whom I firmly believe are riding the GOP train for money and popularity without actually contributing anything), but Bristol did a great job here.

      GONZO…you’re forgetting that during the 2008 campaign, it was a homosexual in West Hollywood that hung Palin in effigy at his home. My first instinct is to say that homosexuals don‘t like Palin because she’s contentedly Christian. As you’re aware, Homosexuals as a whole have an issue with Christianity because Christianity doesn’t accept the sin of homosexuality. Added onto that, she’s a steadfast conservative. Conservatism is anathema to the unhinged left which relies on emotional responses rather than thought.       When they drink the kool-aid, they develop Palin Derangement Syndrome [PDS]. It’s really easy to spot. They start foaming at the mouth whenever anything that has to do with Sarah Palin is mentioned. Actually, I‘m surprised the guy didn’t have a full blown grand mal seizure right then and there because he was actually in the presence of a family member. I wonder how long his decontamination isolation lasted?

      As for his apology, well, I don’t believe a word of it. He issued it AFTER he talked to his lawyer who probably informed him that he was in the cross hairs for a major harassment lawsuit. And based on the video, he’d probably lose. The apology was clearly scripted because he maintained that he had the right to free speech. He does, there is no doubt about that, but what he doesn‘t understand is that he doesn’t have the right to launch an unprovoked verbal attack on someone. Well, he can if he wants, but as he’s probably aware of now, actions can have unpleasant consequences.

    The BEST part of this article was reading Bristol’s statement in the photo.

    Now, an inquisitive mind would ask, was he under any pressure to apologize? Legal pressure? Community pressure? Media pressure? Or, did he genuinely have a change of heart?

    Let’s hope he opened his heart. I know I prayed for him to do so.

    I can never seem to get to the “rational discussion” level with people like this guy, who are hardcore HATERS, with NO rationale for their hatred. They won’t even begin a conversation. Usually, they say something like, “you’ve gotta be kidding!“ or ”you’re not serious!?” – but, they will not engage in a logical conversation/discussion/debate.

    They live emotionally, they think emotionally, they vote emotionally. They do not use logic in their day-to-day lives as we do. We logically understand that tax hikes will impede job growth. I can’t understand why gays are 1) SOOOO angry and 2) believe they must be liberal. I have several gay friends that are incredible people, but bring up politics and they foam at the mouth..

I know a lot of parents struggle these days, that there are parents who have raised their children in church..and that some of these children will still be tempted and fall into this lifestyle.       “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind….
      (10) Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.”

      This man has some problems but Jesus did warn us to cast the beam out of our own eyes before attempting to cast the beam out of others.

      Ashes to Ashes… There are many translations of the Holy Bible. It seemed appropriate to include the KJV version as well. Usually the people who are the most vile and disgusting, are the ones who need our prayers most. Keeping our thoughts and actions pure (casting the beam out of our own eyes) is a daily quest – not a one time event. As far as I can see, no one is walking on water yet. Please pray first before you take offence as no offence was intended to you personally.

From the NKJV, we can also add Lev. 18:22: “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.” Lev. 20:13 “If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination…” Romans 1:26-27 “For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of thier error which was due.”
      And in Jude 7: as Sodom and Gomorrah, & the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality & gone after srange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.” (from Gen. 19)

      Judges 19:22 “As they were enjoying themselves, suddenly certain men of the city, perverted men, surrounded the house & beat on the door. They spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, ‘Bring out the man who came to your house, that we may know him carnally!’”

      This is in addition to 1 Cor. 6:9-11. It’s the Word of God and not our judgments or opinions or accusations. Yes, this is so unpopular, often unknown, but is the standard of Truth by which will be used

My comment was not to justify or condone the gay lifestyle but more in the area of being merciful toward this man who has gone so far astray. For some reason, the thought of Mary Magdelene came to mind. Rather than condemning him, just think how he would benefit if we would pray for him instead?

      @LOVINGAMERICA When this first aired, I watched this video and instead of being angry..I cried , I did pray for them, my heart broke for these young men as I could see their condition. I merely stated what the Word of God says about who will not enter the kingdom of heaven. It is Yashuah’s Word..not ours. It is our responsibility out of love for others that we share that Word. Otherwise..we could just keep our mouths shut and let people continue down the road to destruction. It is good to pray.. it is also good to instruct in the ways of the Lord.
