‘I Love Joel Osteen!’: Cher Angers Gay Fans After Tweeting Praise for Popular Christian Preacher

Pop singer Cher has already made it known that she cannot stand Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his “right wing racist homophobic women hating tea bagging masters” (she tweeted this back in May). But, on the flip side, the music legend loves Christian Pastor Joel Osteen, a popular televangelist who is well-known for his positivity and charm (two attributes that have clearly captivated the songstress).
Cher took to Twitter on Monday, where she posted positive accolades about the preacher. To her surprise, many of her fans became angry, citing Osteen’s views on gay marriage as a reason why the star — whose daughter Chastity Bono (now “Chaz”) recently went through gender re-assignment surgery — shouldn’t support him.

“I love Joel Osteen, hes example of Christian!,” she Tweeted on July 2. “He makes Every1 feel welcome 2 his church no matter who they R! 1st book like this I ever bought.”
She followed this tweet up with another message about Osteen, writing, “I know this Sounds CRAZY Coming From ME, But he’ Cool, UpBeat, wants u 2 have Fun, He’s Funny & Not Preachy! don‘t care if ppl think I’m UnCool!” (editor’s note: spelling kept in tact for both tweets).
This, of course, was met with a great deal of angst from those who disagree with Osteen’s assessment that homosexuality is a sin. Here are just two of the initial responses to her tweet proclaiming her love for the popular pastor:

Cher then affirmed her support for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community, tweeting in response: “But I’M NOT. Proved this MY WHOLE LIFE. We have a BOND. Christians have a hard time but we can change this.”
The celebrity singer then concluded her tweets for the night by again arguing that she was not being betraying her gay fans when she exclaimed her support for Osteen, saying: “But gay pple have stayed w/me through 40 yrs when every1 else left! If i broke our bond & u hav no love 4 me anymore this is my last txt.”

Fortunately for her fans, Cher did inevitably return to Twitter and has been happily sharing her views since the incident unfolded.

His message is pure and he has helped many a person to come to Christ by helping them understand what Christ was actually saying. Nothing else matters to me. He celebrates the GOOD NEWS; he doesn’t interfere with Doctrine; he has never professed to be anything other than a man who believes God made us for a specific reason and purpose known only to God. Joel and Victoria are great ENCOURAGERS.

Posted on July 4, 2012 at 10:42amI have been to Lakewood Church here in Houston and it is run like a game show. He is a motivational speaker and not a preacher. He is the first “preacher” whom I know that has a huge multimillion dollar home in River Oaks. His wife is one of the rudest people on the planet and the church asks you to submit a w2 with your application to join the church. There was a scandal when they first bought the Summit about them selling seats in the front for thousands of dollars and them offering to do the financing as well. A lot of the info has been wiped or scrubbed from the internet but if you research it you will be amazed at what you can find. He is like the evangelical preacher in Fletch Lives wanting to build a Bibleland amusement park.

These used car salesman, turned preachers run around with a Bible in hand, but no not what is says. The Lord warns about leaders in sheeps clothing and when all they can say is, “Jesus loves you, you know they are lying because the real God is not a loving God and you are warned in many places in the Bible. The Bible says to “Lay by instore as you have prospered on the first day of the week(Sunday). This is the only time you can give back to the Lord, and that money is to be used for the Saints – Not good old Joel.

It has no formal membership. People come and people go as they see fit. No one badgers them or asks for any financial information EVER. Furthermore Victoria Osteen is a beautiful woman inside and out. In fact, she and Joel are two of the most genuine and down to earth folks you could ever know. Sorry, but your comments reveal far more about your own heart than theirs. His message is simple and inspired in large measure by Paul’s writing in Romans 2, where he says “it’s the goodness of God that leads you to repentance”. Notice it‘s not God’s judgement or righteousness, but His “goodness” that produces repentance. If you’re looking for someone to remind you of how sinful we all are, there is no shortage. Have at it. But it won’t produce real repentance. One can only truly repent when they have HOPE. And for those of you who pride yourself on knowing and obeying the Word of God and still like to rag on Joel, I suggest you reread Philipians 1:15-18. If Paul could rejoice even when others were preaching from “envy & strife“ and ”selfish ambition”, why can’t you rejoice when a guy like Joel, who loves Jesus and people as genuinely as is humanly possible, is able to reach millions with them message of hope found only in Jesus Christ. Which, by the way, he makes clear at the end of EVERY broadcast.

Remember that this guy attended ORU for a couple of years majoring in something like video production, and is said to have dropped out. Had I the choice between a board certified MD, and a fellow that dropped out two years into medical school, I know which one I’d choose to do my surgery.
Speaking of surgery, do you think that Joel always had that Jack-O-Lantern mouth, or was it surgically accomplished? I know of at least one other televangelist that had that procedure done (on purpose!).

Cher you need to know the Love of Jesus Christ , you must accept Christ into your heart to be your Lord and savior , all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. God is willing to forgive all sins, but you must confess your sins and turn away from it, you must love God more than your child, spouse or anyone or you are not worthy of God. If you cannot do these simple things then the Lake of Fire is your destiny for eternity. There is so much hate in this world and we all get caught up in it at times.

Posted on July 4, 2012 at 9:19amIf and when you go to a “church” and come into the Presence of a Holy God and you feel no repentance in your heart for sin and no remorse for sin, then it is not a church, it is a social club…there are so many false teachers out there today preaching false doctrine without the Gospel message which is Christ died for my sins, he arose from the dead and now is in heaven waiting for that last person to admit that they are sinners and need Him…Cher, God is loving, but He is also just…Joel Osteen preaches only part of the Gospel and is an abomination because he does not preach against evil, which is rebellion against a holy God…like Judah, we as Americans, have allowed ourselves to be sucked into a dark hole and we have married into foreign gods and profaned the sanctuary.

Everytime we give or sow seeds into the kingdom of heaven it is an effort to reach more people. I have found that you cannot out give God and every penny I have ever tithed has been multiplied back to me. If you don’t want your blessings I will take them off your hands. As for the “cotton candy preacher” remark, you attract more with a drop of honey than a gallon of gall (basic bible 101)
