‘I Will Not’: Rand Paul Refuses to Shake Opponents Hand, Launches Attack Ad

Rand Paul is furious over a recent attack ad by his Democratic opponent Jack Conway. So much so that he refused to shake his hand at a debate on Sunday, and has released a new spot calling Conway’s ad “shameless,“ ”disgraceful,“ and ”gutter politics at its worst.”

(See our original story and Conway’s attack ad.)

Conway’s ad is based on published reports from an anonymous woman who claims that Paul, while a member of a secret society at Baylor University, tied her up and told her to worship an idol called “Aqua Buddha.”

“We have serious problems in our country … and he’s descended into the gutter to attack my Christian beliefs,” said Paul at a debate last night.

But new video has surfaced showing that Paul was so upset he refused to shake Conway’s hand after the debate:

(H/T: Gateway Pundit)

During his closing statements, Paul explained his decision:

When this debate ends you will notice that I will not be shaking [Conway's] hand tonight. I will not shake hands with someone who attacks my religion and attacks my Christian beliefs. These are something very personal to me, my wife, my kids, we take it very personally. And I will not be associated with someone who will attack my religion. This election will be about the future of America, who has the best vision. We will try to keep the debate on a higher tone. I hope you will leave my church, my family and my religion out of it.

Paul continued his assault on Conway’s ad with an ad of his own on Monday, asking “What kind of shameful politician would sink this low to bear false witness against another man, just to win an election?”:

“This man would,” the ad says.

    So, Paul is above reproach? Has he answered the allegations? His “holier than thou” attitude is not becoming. God is a Big Boy and can take care of Himself. The Pauls, though they might say the right things politically, are a bunch of sniveling little wussies

      Wasn‘t Huckabee that played interference for John McCain so that Mitt Romney wouldn’t get the nomination. Because of Huckabee’s handiwork Commie Obama was elected president. I won’t soon forget the betrayal of Huckabee. I have no intention of ever voting for him. You would have thought John McCain would have offered him the spot of running for VP as payment for Huckabee’s betrayal of conservatism.

      Why does Mr. Paul carry the burden of proof? What if I made random or encriminating allegations about you? Are you then guilty until you prove yourself otherwise? C’mon, the burden of prrof always rests on the plaintiff!

      @GRINCH
      Nice revision of history. You should be a textbook writer. Here’s the bottom line: The country doesn’t want to elect a Mormon as President. We like our Presidents to be Baptist or Methodist. Plain and simple.

      @NEILING
      These weren‘t criminal charges and we ain’t in a court of law. This is a Senatorial campaign. If one cannot stand the heat, one had better get his ass out of the kitchen. If Paul won’t answer the allegations (and maybe he did already, I don’t know) it makes him look like he’s got something to hide. Simply refusing to shake his opponent’s hand and demanding that his “religion” be left out of it is childish and he sounds like a crybaby.

      @Huckabee Gingrich 12

      “The country doesn’t want to elect a Mormon as President.”

      Ya, I forgot how tolerant some of you good people really are. The bottom line is this Huckabee had a snowballs chance in hell of securing the nomination. Had he gotten out of the race Mitt Romney might have chance. Huckabee’s irrational hatred of Mormons and his pride is directly responsible for that RINO McCain sowing up the Republican nomination. Huckabee cost us the presidency!

      But, thanks for your letting your anti Mormon attitudes be made known.

    I’m convinced Rand Paul will win, along with other GOP candidates, if only because of the horrible Dem ads.

Socialists Progressing away from the Constitution toward socialism/communism…After all yobama said the Constitution is fundamentally flawed and America is fundamentally flawed. Thus they are pushing “Fundamental Change” aka socialism…government by elite for the elite where the lazy and illegal get everything at your expense…Lets start a new movement where by those that are on welfare lose the ability to vote until they get a job…

      http://www.aquatots.com.au/aquabubbas.htm for any one who wants to check it out.

      Seems to me that this lady who was supposedly tied up and told to worship the idol Aqua Bubba needs to get her story togeather a bit better; for if she was tied up and detained against her will, why does she not press criminal charges?

      Only in the contradictory narcissistic world of the liberal does it make sense to want to shake hands with someone after you’ve failed to cut off their right arm.

      And then, the word “shame” used in Paul’s ad, it‘s something liberals don’t know . . . It’s as foreign to them as knowing the fruits of truth and honesty . . . morals and ethics.

      Agreed. When someone says they are of a Christian faith and act in a way that is consistent with it (e.g., goes to church), then no one and certainly no opposition candidates should question, much less attack, that faith. Similarly, about one-third of Republicans ought to apologize to Barack Obama for their persistent claims that he is a Muslim. If they do not, then they are hypocrites to defend Rand Paul while continuing to question Obama’s faith.
