ICE Agent Shot in South Texas While Conducting Surveillance

(The Blaze/AP) – Dozens of law enforcement officers picked over a miles-long crime scene bisecting a rural South Texas town Tuesday, collecting evidence after a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent was shot while conducting surveillance.
The Monitor reports Kelton Harrison, 32, is in stable condition after being shot twice early Tuesday in Hargill, Texas. The agent was conducting surveillance related to an ongoing criminal investigation, ICE spokeswoman Nina Pruneda said. The agent was taken to a local hospital and underwent surgery.
The shooting occurred in Hidalgo County, Texas, close to the Mexican border and a known drug-trafficking route. The Monitor also reports three suspects were being held for questioning late Tuesday afternoon, however, no suspects had been formally arrested or identified.
The shooting apparently shares similarities with a Hidalgo County sheriff‘s deputy’s ambush by suspected members of the Gulf Cartel in October as he was investigating a kidnapping, the Monitor reports. Authorities refused to say whether Harrison’s attack was related to drug cartels, however, one investigator told the Monitor that the agent’s investigation was related to a group of human smugglers and drug traffickers based near Hargill.
Texas state troopers blocked several miles of the main road through Hargill. At one end investigators with metal detectors walked through tall grass around a small white house. Officers from local, state and federal agencies scoured the road for several miles to the north of the house, looking for evidence. At the north end of the crime scene, an SUV with its rear window broken out sat about 50 yards off the road behind a row of squat trees. Border Patrol agents and other investigators picked their way through grass nearby.
FoxNews.com reports authorities believe there may have been two shooters and have collected shell casings as evidence.
Harrison is expected to survive after he was shot in the abdomen at around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. The Monitor reports the agent was rushed to the McAllen Medical Center at speeds as fast as 100 mph.
Hildago County Sheriff Lupe Trevino said his office is assisting the FBI in the investigation. Details surrounding the shooting are still fuzzy.
“We’re developing leads but obviously we cannot discuss them at this time,” he said.
FBI spokesman Erik Vasys said his agency is leading the investigation into the assault on a federal officer, but that any details regarding the incident would likely come from ICE.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
This is a breaking story and will be updated.

Senora (?) Napalitano says that the US border with Mexico is more secure than it has ever been.
This incident must be an episode of “workplace violence” or even an incident of domestic abuse in the sagebrush.
If the Ayatollah Obama is re-annointed, expect him to escalate the violence along the border by drastically reducing our drug interdiction efforts. Go short on real estate along the border and long on food, water, guns and ammo.

Posted on July 4, 2012 at 6:35amDear Blaze; Hildalgo county is located in Southeast Texas not Southwest. Believe me this is Texas and the difference is several hundred miles. This is a concept that is hard for people who live back east to grasp. You can enter Texas near El Paso headed east and when you leave Texas at Orange or near Marshal you will have driven over 800 miles.
The ICE agent getting shot is awful, but being shot at is a daily occurence for the officers who work this border. The Texas Highway Patrol has bought several armored patrol boats equipped with machine guns to patrol the Rio Grande river along this stretch of the border.
The ICE Agent will probably be fired by Epic Holdup for attempting to enforce the law rather than running away.. Holdup can’t have people who do their job, and enforce the law, getting any publicity and disagreeing the policies set forth by Sweet Old Barack.

I read a story today of an english citizen who had married an american lady and they had lived in london for a while but got tired of the b.s. and moved here and how proud he was to be here and becoming a U.S. citizen…and i couldnt help wondering why our loosely termed “leaders” care more about illegal aliens than this guy with his inspiring story….why are we face-palming everyone waiting in line to come here and contribute while welcoming illegal aliens by dictatorial decrees. unconstitutional decrees nullifying laws passed by our elected officials, in essence, stealing your voting rights….what does it matter

In all 3 cases the Bandit(s) got the upper hand and left. In the Brian Terry and Jamie Zapata cases after getting the upper hand they left their weapons behind before leaving. Drug Cartel members and Bandits DO NOT leave their weapons behind unless they are dead and in all 3 cases no Bandits were killed.
Why would they drop their weapons and leave when they had the upper hand? Think about it.

Posted on July 3, 2012 at 2:19pmDoubtful. Obummer doesn’t support the ICE program any more than he has to, as is evident in his suspension of ICE compacts with local law enforcement in Arizona which is the most active state for illegal border crossings. And we are not talking about just poor Mexican peons wanting to better themselves. Now it’s mostly thugs, drug runners and fugitives. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was shot and killed with a gun that the ATF allowed to walk across the border [one of thousands], and neither Holder or Obummer bothered to contact the family to offer condolences. If it had been one of my sons that had been killed, I seriously doubt that I would have been civil to either of them, given their history. HOPE and CHANGE seems to have morphed quickly into SMOKE and CHAINS.

Posted on July 3, 2012 at 2:28pmPerson in question is Kenneth Chamberlain Sr. of White Plains, NY, and it didn’t happen today, it happened on November 18th, 2011. He set off the emergency bracelet in his sleep, and the police arrived. While he told them he was fine, they demanded to be let in, and Chamberlain had armed himself with a knife.
(Which, when it’s the middle of the night in NY and someone demands to be let in, is somewhat reasonable. But I digress).
Chamberlain was shot with a tazer, beanbags, and finally gunshots. Yes, they did call him a “n****er,” which was recorded on tape.
The only new news is that his son sued on Monday for $21 million. This comes after a grand jury decided that no crime had been committed.
