Ice Cream Costume Mistaken for KKK Robe in Florida

Classic mix-up.
Daniel Aviles works for Ice Cream Family Corner & Sandwiches in Ocala, Florida, luring motorists in from a busy intersection dressed in a white-hooded ice cream cone costume. The owners tell Ocala.com that their two-month-old business “is getting creamed” because passers-by have mistaken Aviles for a KKK protester:
“Liza Diaz, who manages the store for Cantres and co-owner Jesus Diaz, said an employee at the bank where she does business told her a co-worker was so frightened by the white dollop patrolling the street corner that she called her husband crying and refused to drive through the intersection.
‘One (customer) told me, ‘I had to think twice before coming in here because I thought it was KKK,‘ ’ Diaz said.”
The store manager is from Puerto Rico and never even heard of the KKK before the controversy, mispronouncing the group as the “Ku Ku Klan” according to Ocala.com.
The owners have remedied the situation by putting the costume in the closet for good. Though the ordeal has cost them business, the owners are trying to make light of the situation.
“We’re a friendly environment, family-oriented,” Liza Diaz told Ocala.com “We’re not (racist). We’re very friendly, very religious.”

Posted on September 28, 2011 at 1:20amOnly in Ocala. I moved from there 2 years ago, lived there for 9. Can people NOT see the ice cream CONE or are they so stupid they can’t read his sign?? That town is so jacked up it is ridiculous. Very political structure. An editor of one of three upscale magazines (yes, they have three huge elitist publications) got caught plagiarizing her articles. Wesley Snipes’ trial was there. John Travolta and Kelly live nearby. Debra LaFave brought her teenage victim there. Melinda Duckett is believed to have disposed of her child’s body in the forest nearby. Ocala is weird. With the exception of my friends and a few select people the town is a conundrum. The people who mistook this guy for a KKK member are complete and utter idiots.

Posted on September 28, 2011 at 9:18amI don’t understand the reaction. I thought it proved the KKK is finally diverse and promoting the touchy feely Hispanic Heritage Month. The hood is vanilla and has sprinkles of all colors…therefore it’s totally Gay and PC, which appeals to most Liberals. Instead we get…Run away it’s the KKK…ya know…we have a freaking country full of morons!!!

Posted on September 27, 2011 at 9:00pmOnce again, assuming people have common sense is becoming more and more of a mistake. Though I think the pink sprinkles would have also helped with the argument, or maybe the fact that you can see his face and he is Puerto Rican. Last time I checked, not too many of them are in the Klan.

Did she think the kkk now wears waffle cones to go with their candy-sprinkled hats, and that they have stopped just cutting out the eye-holes, but are brave enough to now cut out the entire FACE?

It makes you wonder about some of the people now living in Ocala, a town I’ve been to many times, One look and it looks like an ice cream cone to me. Beside if it were a KKK person, their would be a lot more on the corner and they wouldn’t be holding an sign with Ice Cream.
