If Victorious, President Newt Gingrich Plans Day 1 Executive Order Blitz

Not wanting to jinx his chances in 2012, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich announced Friday that IF he secured the Republican presidential nomination and went on to defeat President Barack Obama, his first day in office would be spent issuing hundreds of executive orders. If Victorious, President Newt Gingrich Plans Day 1 Executive Order Blitz

Speaking before a group of religious conservatives gathered at the American Family Association‘s pastors’ policy briefing in Iowa Friday, Gingrich speculated that he could sign as many as 200 executive orders on his first day as president, on issues ranging from abolishing an entire circuit court to restricting federal funding for abortions.

“If we have the right election in 2012 and we elect the right congress and the right president that from day one, we can have executive orders — maybe as many as 150 to 200 of them — on the first day,” Gingrich announced.

Politico reports:

The former House Speaker said that after the inaugural address, there’s a break before the traditional lunch — an opportunity for a newly-elected president to get right to work.

“Walk into a room, have all the documents already prepared, already on the Internet, already reviewed by the American people, already written by people who were in the Bush and Reagan White Houses, so they’re all technically correct,” he told the audience. “And just sign as fast as you can.”

Gingrich called for abolishing the Ninth Circuit Court, which he sees as part of an activist judiciary, abolishing all “czars” created by the Obama administration and ensuring no American money pays for abortion (the Constitution specifically gives Congress the power to “ordain and establish” lower courts).

“This is not hyperbole,” he said.

When asked if he’s definitely running, Gingrich remained coy. But he hinted that in a more appropriate venue, he might have a better answer soon.  “It is conceivable, that for example, that at Steve King’s [conservative principles conference] tomorrow I might be a little closer to answering your question,” Gingirch said.

“We working overtime to be able to give you a yes in the very near future in a venue other than this,” he added. “Because we wouldn’t want to mar up this venue.”

It‘s unclear how conservative Republicans might embrace Gingrich’s gusto and readiness to grab the executive order pen.  Both President Obama and former President George W. Bush have both come under fire from conservatives in recent years for using the presidential executive order privilege to bypass the legislative branch.  Judicial activists would also likely voice heavy objection to a president using his pen to strike away the Ninth Circuit, a court jurisdiction that covers nearly one-fifth of the country’s population.

While many Republicans would likely support Gingrich’s sentiments and sympathize with his distaste for activist judges, many constitutional conservatives would likely balk at such a one-sided course of action that carries considerable consequences for the other two branches of the federal government.

Newt Gingrich is, far and away, the most knowledgeable on domestic and foreign affairs than any of the other president wanna‘be’s. ALL THE CZARS must go! Glad he is pointing that out. These people have been given too much power by Obama, and as long as they exist, our vote for Congressmen means nothing. They have short-circuited our system and anyone who cannot see this are blind. Whoever we vote for also must be capable of beating Obama in the debates. We cannot have someone who just goes for the “emotional” response. We are not children and we need somebody who can stand toe-to-toe with whatever Obama throws out there. Newt Gingrich, in spite of some former “sin?” loves this country and I would trust him to lead us out of this mess. He fears no one.

He’s a duplicitous bastid. He’s a GOP/GOB and he’s so smart he squandered away the last majority the GOP ever saw. He bungled it badly, and fell for every trick the Left has ever used. He may be scholarly and visionary in some areas– I could listen to him talk history for hours– but he’s a feckless leader in the trenches. He proved that. Next.

I find Newt just as frightening as Obama…150-200 EO’s on the 1st day? If Obama did that, what in the world would we all be saying? HE’S BECOME A DICTATOR! So why in God’s name is it ok to let Newt do it? What is wrong with everybody? CHECKS AND BLEEPIN’ BALANCES…not 1 man doing whatever he wants to do. This is America…Republican, Democrat or Independent…I don’t care who you are. There is a Congress there to protect us. Newt is basically saying screw that, I’m not even asking. Isn’t that what we all hate about Obama? Never in a million years would I vote for Newt Gingrich. He‘s proved himself over and over to be a lying sack o’ (bleep). He’s also just as much a part of the New World Order as anybody else on this planet, Not to mention that crazy owl worshiping, bongo playing, sitting around naked with other men stuff that goes on out in California…Newt is a ring leader of that crowd. Follow this guy right to hell if you want…not me. Not ever. And no…I wouldn’t vote for Obama over him. I just wouldn’t be able to vote. I could never do it with a clear mind.

He turned me off when he did that global warming ad…was it with Sharpton or Pelosi (I can’t remember which). A lot of politicians from opposite sides of the aisle were paired in these ads and it disgusted me that Newt was a part of it. I do like his ideas and his ability to convey them, unlike Obama who parses words and needs a teleprompter. And he has a strong record of fiscal responsibility and success. So, although he wouldn’t be my first choice, I’d probably vote for an old boot before I would pull the lever for Obama!

During a book tour, Gingrich told an audience in a speech that was televised on C-SPAN that the Bush administration had been very successful at intercepting terrorists, but had not gotten credit for it, explaining that maybe we should’ve “allowed an attack to get through to remind” Americans about the danger of terrorism.

GINGRICH FLIP-FLOPPED ON THE INDIVIDUAL MANDATE: In 2008, Gingrich suggested “insurance mandates for people who earn more than $75,000 a year.” Yet by 2010, he was blasting the mandate as unconstitutional.

And this is the man that will probably win the Republican nomination.
Obama will win in a landslide.

This guy is worst than a RINO.

WHILE DEMONIZING GOVERNMENT LARGESS, GINGRICH POURED MORE FEDERAL MONEY INTO HIS DISTRICT THAN ALMOST ANY OTHER: The politics of the mid-1990′s was marked by the right’s attempt to decimate the social safety net. As Gingrich waged his campaign to destroy unemployment insurance and aid for needy families, he made his own district the recipient of huge amounts of federal aid. Under Gingrich, his district in Cobb County, GA received more “federal subsidies than any suburban county in the country, with two exceptions: Arlington Virginia, effectively part of the Federal Government, and Brevard County Florida, the home of the Kennedy Space Center.”

GINGRICH ALSO WANTS THE RICH TO DECIDE WHEN THEIR OWN TAX CUTS WOULD END: During last winter’s debate over extending the Bush tax cuts, Gingrich said that we should “have the business leadership of the country describe the number” of months that the cuts for the wealthiest should last.

Gingrich has done some things in the past that disagreed with me,,,,,,,but I must say that what he just said made me feel good. I realize his comments can be considered a ‘campaign promise’,,,,but it did sound like ice water on a hot day. I truely liked what was said. I truely believe that is the kind of controls that must be taken so we can have our country back.

sadly… I have to agree with jz also, a typical career politician, they all get stupid with power eventually
As a Christian I am prone to forgiveness and leaving final judgement to God, but that does not equate to stupidity, he has show the kind of man he is, dishonest and prone to self pleasure, neither of which equates to a good leader.

Newt is a good high quality “candidate”. He’d have my vote. While there are other good high quality (potential) candidates, Newt has a level of comprehension of government and diplomacy only equaled (IMHBLO) by John Bolton.

Newt’s an older man now. Hopefully he’s a wiser man who has learned from his mistakes. Newt’s “baggage” is all out there for everyone to see and ask him about. If he’s a candidate, he will have to be open to answering those questions. Hopefully his answers will reveal him to be a man of integrity who knows where he went wrong and won’t re-visit those errors. Maybe he will even address those concerns without being asked.

The pretender-in-chief is a liar and a cover-up “artist” who twists his stories untl the naive and gullible are sucked in. That’s what got him elected, “baggage” and all. Too many wanted to hear the fiction that he spins so well, rather than the facts, and they were swept up by it all and fell hook line and sinker. One can hope that those naive and gullible folks, mentioned above and who allowed themselves to be seduced by obama, have grown up and become wiser.

Better a gnarly old warhorse who has failed and got to his feet again, than the slippery, socio-path, pseudo-potus who has set up his office in the white house now.

      Jzs,
You’re rehashing a history that has been admitted to and repented of. You also are mischaracterizing Newts stance on Lybia. He would have instituted a nofly zone the week Ghaddafi was bombing civis, but not attacked ground troops the way Obama has.
Newt may be one of the few with the guts to roll enough of the progressive agenda back to make a difference. Sell it somewhere else.

I listened to the speech on C-SPAN, it was a lot of red meat throwing and posturing about his series of past foibles and over statements. These were not promises, just “Suppose that somebody does this -What if? ” to get the crowd excited
1- There is No Way he will campaign on Filling Out Day 1 Executive orders (It would be too easy to embarrass him by asking to see some of them before the election)
2 – He won’t run, he just wants money and the ($$$) added publicity for talking about it

The answer is does not involve continuing the abuses of powers that have brought us to this point. The Founders gave the president the authority to make executive orders for things to get done quickly in time of emergencies, like time of war. The only thing I agree with fully that Newt said was the part about eliminating numerous Czar positions – that indeed is within his authority. Although I have zero respect for the ninth circus court, it is not the president’s task to bring it into line. Two wrongs does not make a right. We cannot make things right by continuing to play the same games. I do not want a president who uses the executive order to get what he wants, while ignoring the Constitution.

Do we really want a President who believes that he has this much power? Executive orders are not a part of the Executive power, and although they have existed since Washington, they cannot be used to effect serious change without risking transforming the President into a pseudo-dictator.

If anything, the best use may simply be to roll back previous executive orders but not issue new ones on new problems.

Sure it “sounds” good, however, ….

“To everything; turn, turn turn. There is a season….” IMO Newt’s sun is setting. There is just too much baggage. (Methinks some of that baggage contains a “horn”, no?)

Rule by Executive Orders? the same thing Obama is doing. so why do we need an overpaid corrupt Congress? No, if he was talking about rescinding all Obama EO’s. Different story.

The President is the head of the Executive branch. The Congress passes the Law and the Executive branch is obliged to carry it out. These Executive Orders have grown into an abuse of the Constitution. An Executive Order was meant to be a directive to the Executive branch to enforce an existing law duly passed by Congress not to allow the President to become a dictator or king.

President Clinton used an Executive Order to declare a war on Kosovo bypassing the Constitution. President Roosevelt used an Executive Order to round up all the Japanese during WWII and place them in internment camps.

President Obama has written 77 Executive Orders to date. One order makes it easier to declare martial law over the state governments. Another order is used to prevent a school kid from eating a candy bar with his school lunch. The latest confiscates the assets of Colonel Muammar Qadhafi and his associates.

Most of Obama’s Executive Orders have been to create a council, committee, or agency that will be headed by one of countless Czars that are not approved by Congress. Just before Christmas Obama signed an Executive Order giving many employees of the Federal Government a pay raise before the stingy Republicans took office.

If Newt wants to write Executive Orders, he should write ones nullifying most of Obama’s orders.
