‘If You Succeed, You Are Using More of Government Services’: Liberal Guest Gives Unbelievable Rant on Megyn Kelly’s Show

Sometimes it‘s difficult not to feel sorry for the Democrats who have to defend President Obama’s recent argument that government is the entity responsible for the success of businesses. That certainly is the case with respect to Christopher Hahn, who offered a series of increasingly implausible excuses and arguments for the President’s demonstrably false statement on a panel with Fox News host Megyn Kelly today.

Hahn, who was tasked with arguing the liberal position opposite conservative radio host David Webb, started off by claiming that the Romney campaign was distorting President Obama’s actual meaning, which was…rather like what Romney has been saying it was, namely that no one succeeds purely on their own and that there has to be an “environment for success” (whatever that means) fostered by the government, and therefore government should get some of the credit. This is a more moderate statement than Obama’s apparent belief that government should get all the credit, but not by much.

Webb fired back using examples of entrepreneurs such as Henry Ford, who still managed to come up with original ideas that made his business possible, regardless of what the government did. It was at this point that Hahn’s argument transformed from dodgy but plausible to outright silly.

“Henry Ford would not have been Henry Ford had there not been roads being built!” Hahn exploded.

“That is a false notion,” Webb fired back.

No kidding. The interstate highway system wasn‘t built until 9 years after Henry Ford’s death, and the model T was originally built and marketed before Woodrow Wilson was even President. If Hahn was trying to make the case that activist government creates an “environment for success,” he was doing a poor job of it.

It was at this point that Megyn Kelly interjected, “If I take risk and take a business and it succeeds and I make over 250 or 200 [thousand], then he wants me to pay more taxes. If I take risk and build a business and it doesn’t succeed, then I get to stay at the same rate. But both people, you know, both people in this hypothetical scenario used the same infrastructure, took the same risk, created the same business, but one has to pay more — why? Because he or she was successful.”

Hahn’s response has to be heard to be believed. “Theoretically, if you succeed, you are using more of government services. You are benefiting more from government services. What separates us from Uganda is we have a functioning government that provides for its citizens, specifically, stability. And I’ve heard conservatives crying for three years now about stability in this country, about the President is not leading to stabilitizing (sic) the tax rates, and certainty, what we have with our government is certainty.”

Now, notice those first two sentences. “If you succeed, you are using more of government services.” How on earth does this follow?  It seems to us that successful people pay more to prop up the government, not the other way round, or is Hahn assuming every business works like Solyndra? Moreover, the argument that if you are successful, you are benefiting more from government services strikes us as rather similar to saying that if a student gets an A, that means they learned more from the teacher. That might be true in some contexts, but the student also could have done independent reading on their own, or might just be so smart that they can infer information without being taught it. In other words, this argument does precisely what Hahn is arguing President Obama didn’t mean to do – that is, obviate individual achievement.

Those libs are spin crazy! All this amounts to redistribution – take from the productive and successful, and give to the non-productive. This creates an incentive to be non-productive and is punishment for being successful. This situation cannot work. The expected result would be far more non-productive demanding ever more from a declining productive people. Libs seem to have some sort of mental impairment that stops rationality.

It’s just another in the long list of examples of the FACT that liberals are not only mentally ill, they average 30 IQ points less than normal, rational people. I don’t think these idiots realize that the railroads built their own lines and roads and bridges were built mostly by contracting companies not the government (at the expense mostly of local governments not the fed. gov.) AND the government has ruined a once great education system. There are aprox. 47%, mostly liberals, that are parasites and don’t even pay taxes, in fact most of them are takers. I guarantee those losers had NOTHING to do with making America great. It is an indisputable fact that anyone who believes business owners didn’t build their own businesses is a MORON. It’s also obvious that liberals are a clear and present danger to America.

This kind of thinking with regards to Gov‘t economic policy is precisely why any nation that has undertook the Marxist experiment and taken it to it’s fullest expression has ended in spectatcular failure (without exception). Punishing success is, to anyone with an ounce common sense, while at the same time rewarding failure is not only a recipe for disaster, but in a nation well versed and founded on solid business principles, monumentally stupid, totally irresponsible and most of all treasonous. Chris Hahn and the other liberal mouthpieces in the MSM are painting themselves into a corner that no amount of spin will allow them to escape from. Nov 6th can’t arrive soon enough……..I have no doubt that if Romney wins and the Hill is populated with enough conservatives that the end of this upside down world the left has created the last 6 years will come to an end.

Some of the largest companies are in DemocRat camp. The reason is that cronyism is alive and well and they use government services with a reckless abandon, by lobbying and “you scratch mine, I scratch yours”. It’s for them a default modus operandi, and for Hahn, this is what he seems to consider “normal”, “doesn’t everybody doing it?”

No. Not everybody is doing it. I myself keep as far from any hint of a government as 20 miles pole. I don’t need anything from it, and would love to see the reciprocal approach from it, though I can’t escape taxes. That is all involvement I’ve got with the government, in toto. Many of the wealthy occupations don’t produce anything and barely use roads, bridges or aqueducts the government so generously provides:

      1. Product liability lawyer. Find a product and sue the manufacturer. This only requires one trip to Mississippi to get the most generous settlement.

      2. Bernie Madoff investment advisor. At it takes is a phone, fax machine, office computer and a laser printer to print off the the false financial statements. This may require using the U.S. Postal system.

      3. Investment Banker. Trade derivatives using other people’s money. Requires internet access. The tax payers will cover your losses.

      4. Personal Injury. Fall down in a casino. Requires a lawyer.

      5. Drug transporter. Walk drugs across the U.S. border. Requires a good pair of shoes.

      6. Get a government grant. Think of a name for a company using the words: solar, renewable, energy or Green. Fill out a grant request on the Department of Energy website. May require internet access and a foreign bank account.

Obviously, the high-income jobs of the future will produce and consume as little as possible.

The people who PAY all the taxes (and don’t tell me the others have payroll taxes, right…and most of them get those back +)… the people who pay all the taxes, employ all the people are not “people using up most of the resources” Incredible. I can’t say I like that guy too much, but now I’m beginning to feel sorry for him. HERE is the solution: What (believe it or not) Clinton came up with when he was President: They don’t get welfare unless they are working. If they can’t find private sector jobs, they must work 40 hours week for City or State. WHY NOT??!! There is no down side to that…except now that the Commie twerp in the WH has ‘gutted’ the welfare laws. Calling massages and dance lessons “work”. All he is doing is making gutless/characterless/enslaved people. I can’t wait until he is kicked out!!! PS: McCain only only provided TWO YEARS of tax returns. JCROOK, Below is the paragraph from 0bama’s speech, this is exactly what he said word for word. Read it then try to tell us that we are making it up.
“If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business. you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.”
To read his entire speech, just tag this link. We do know exactly what he said. By the way, the government in any form owes it’s existence to the taxpayers, especially the successful, and successful business people who pay exponentially more. Still, these governments do not much more than piss away the taxpayer funds in an attempt to buy votes rather than doing what they are supposed to do. Our roads and bridges should not be in the shape they are. They should have been properly maintained all along with the taxes collected for exactly that. But, where did that money go? Take a guess how Democrats spent it.

Treaty, about that sewer under your house. My parent’s house had a perfectly functional septic system that worked well for more than twenty five years. Then the town decided that because it was in a 25 year flood zone, everyone on my parent’s road HAD TO tie into the town sewage system. (Back story, the government was giving the town mondo dollars for each house added to the sewer system.) So, they were forced to tie in and had a sewer installation assessment that just got paid off last year. Now my brother pays the “sewer assessment ” (a.k.a. tax ) for merely having the sewer there. I bet if I went back and looked at the amount of interest they paid over the years on that “assessment” it would be about $25K. So, no, I don‘t buy the idea that they got a free ride on someone else’s back. They paid for that sewer tie in, they paid royally.

Actually Christopher Hahn is partially correct. Under a progressive government, they choose who wins and loses based on which companies support the ones that are in power. Many companies would not be as powerful as they are with bailouts and government buying their stocks to rescue & protect union workers.

However, this is not the case for 95% of all other businesses that a made (whether successful or doomed to failure). It is true capitalism for the small business and crony capitalism for the progressive elites and their friends. They will insure you are not successful if you hold values against them… Hence Gibson Guitars raids or when Bank of America dropped McMillian (a reputable gun manufacturer) for political purposes.

What Obama and Hahn are saying is in their “perfect” America, you will only be successful because the power that be allow you to be. So, you owe it to them.

Not to mention that they are also responsible for the failure of businesses and the inability for new business getting started due to over regulation and government oversight. But Obama will blame the unfairness of the system, which is one that he is perpetuating. We need every American to wake up to their hypocrisy. Keep speaking the truth and keep love in your heart, even for your enemy. They know not what they do.

The interstate highway system wasn‘t built until 9 years after Henry Ford’s death, and the model T was originally built and marketed before Woodrow Wilson was even President.” Interstate highways were not the only and first roads that were built by federal, state and local governments. And yes successful businesses CONTINUE to use infrastructure such as roads, airports, shipping ports, communications, etc. so it follows they should invest in prior, current and future maintenance and improvements. And yes the risk of failure has to be spread across everyone, a fact that is conveyed in the tax code where the individuals who’s businesses fail can apply those loses to gains they have elsewhere and lower the tax burden.

Where you are going wrong is that these roads are for EVERYONE’S use. The are not solely for the purpose of businesses. Nor was their creation solely for business purposes. Nor is the Internet.

The original creation of the Internet was the flow of information should a nuclear blast take out normal means of communication. It was a defense network for the DOD and many universities so they can plan a course of action should an attack happen.

The birth of the internet led to many creations, the birth of roads. However, it didn’t MAKE the business owner use them or even led to their success. If businesses succeed, they also fail based on your claim because of the same issue – government involvement. When the government doesn’t staff a port correctly, does it hurt business? When the Government hires poor administrative overseers, does the business pay?

The roads you claim before the invention of the car, were trails made by heavy usage of wagons, not by the DOT. You are a fool to think that these DIRT roads were created by the government. The Government nor created these as it created the Oregon Trail… People found paths and created them in their expanse to the west. The government did purchase the land, so you could say that they created the trails through pushing a market.

By your logic, Glenn Beck has part ownership of your remarks. This is his website, so your words only exist because he paved the way for you.

      @ JRook

Now, in honesty. All should pay for the roads. All benefit from infrastructure. However, these systems are not responsible for the success of an individual or an individual’s actions. These merits can only be weighed based on the individual. Business know that their employees helped them, their customers. However, unless your GM, GE or any Government backed business (Ahem GM’s sales were up 16% last month due to a 72% increase from government purchases – fitting for a government partially owned business), you can not force people to buy your goods. Only through sales can you be successful. A road does not sell the MP3 player. The road only helps it reach a broader market. However, without a good model and smart business sense a business will fail or succeed based on innovation of the business owners and management.

Businesses owe more of their success to their employees and customers than they do the government. The roads are there regardless of a business’ existence. Trails and dirt roads are made by constant travel of farmers to markets and migration. The roads were initial built over these areas due to the easy of prepping the land.

However, how the moneys acquired for the roads are need before the government can build them. So, without an friendly economy to create successful businesses, the government has no means to build a road or an internet. Sure, they could print money, but that does nothing but makes the population poor.

wolfgang…The best way to illustrate your point is to recall what the city of Berlin, Germany looked like. With a wall down the middle and democracy on one side and socialism on the other. When the wall came down the inhabitants were able to witness the stark contrasts. The western people viewed the still burned out buildings left from ww2 and the eastern citizens were able to stroll through the reconstructed portion of west Berlin. Anyone see the difference between the two? We here are at the crossroads with this election. We can become east Berlin with socialism or get back on the path of democracy. Less Gov’t and more entrepreneurial successes. The choice is as dramatic as that!

I liked the comment about it being the “everybody gets a trophy” argument projected as government policy. But you need to take that further. In college I did a paper on poverty in America and found out something VERY interesting! A two parent household with both parents working full time (making only minimum wage) can have up to two children and still be above the poverty line. Now lets put aside the fact that if you are a grown up and still working a minimum wage job there are other issues at play. But think about that, what causes poverty in America…CHOICES. If you have children without an intact family. If you do not work full time. If you have more than two children. These are all choices. And as we all know the recent Forbes list of BILLIONAIRES found that most of them (I want to say 85% or higher) are self-made (Did not inherit wealth). If you make it or don’t in America is almost 100% your choice. We need to stop shielding people from their bad choices, while punishing others for their good ones. Now I know there are some in poverty, not due to bad choices (those who have lost everyting due to a death or illness). But that is a SMALL percent and surely our society will be glad to help them out. But for most of them; stop making babies without two parents, get a job, get sober, and get off the government dole.

Whoa, hey, whoa! When all of us “Redneck Republicans” were denouncing GATT and NAFTA, all of you “little-c conservatives“ were lecturing down your noses at us about the importance of international ”interdependence”. Why the change? Let me guess: You only enjoyed flirting with Harvard-style elitism when it was MY JOB that was up on the chopping block, right? Now that Harvard is taxing the cr@p out of your businesses and professional partnerships, now you are whistling, once again, for your trusty redneck cousins to get that n-word out of the White House, right?

This reminds me of the time when my ancestor froze his @ss off at Valley Forge (And he got passed up for commission to officer by some French foreigner who was here in the US illegally but was a member of a “trendy minority”) only to have the land and pay promised him in the lean years of the new nation be given to the “proper and noble” elements of society. And his farm was then taxed out from under him and sold to the bankers! In the end, my “cabin trash” relative got zilcho’d when the war was all over and those lawyers all got their way and were able to drink tax-free tea! Oh yeah, but those blue bloods did deign to compromise with the more liberal elements among them by adding some “Bill of Rights” or some such nonsense for us hoi palloi to whine about ad nauseam.

So back in GATT and NAFTA you cried about Longshoremen making “6 figures” and the need for interdependence, and now you want to boy

I bet it would be EASIER to set up a business in almost any semi-civilized place than it is in today’s USA. The permits, the requirements, the employment requirements, Heaven help you if you have to let someone go! The regulations that our GOV. has loaded us down with and then add the 1000 pages of tax (requiring Tax Preparer $$) …. I could open a business in any other tropical place on earth in a day…but not here. I won‘t leave the USA but it’s very sad to see what you faithless DEM/LIBS have done to this country. YOU have no faith so YOU want to make everything perfect now…impossible…and what you can’t make perfect you must control like a 4 year old. You have totally wrecked the AMERICAN DREAM and now we need to fix it. I’m determined that my kids and their kids will have at least as great a life as I have…not less because of you Atheists/Libs/PC nut jobs.
IF you had any faith, you‘d know that things that happen to people are ’obstacles for them to overcome‘ and you’d stop creating a massive pile of marshmallows that you can control. HOW dare you do that to people??? WE (Conservatives) give more $, time and effort helping our fellow man than any of you do…all you want to do is talk about it. LOOK AT THE MESS YOU’VE MADE!!! I hope you grow up. I can’t wait until Nov and we have a MAN in the WH who loves AMERICA and has lived and believes in the AMERICAN DREAM for everyone…not making slaves of people!!!

FoxNews has become more moderate in their presentations and that is why employees are leaving. That is why Glenn left. In fact, I am thinking about cancelling my Cable subscription altogether and just keeping the Internet. I can watch anything there.

FoxNews HAS COMPROMISED ITS ORIGINAL PRINCIPLES. It is no longer FAIR AND BALANCED.
It caters to the liberal left, just so they can keep their standing. When you compromise on the truth, then there is no truth and it becomes a lie.

Really? Where have you been living, Cuba, maybe Russia? If I own property and I find gold on it, I own it, not the ‘people’. It’s called property rights! There are all kinds of laws governing these rights. If you want the gold you’ll have to buy it from me, that is if I want to sell it. This is just one mickey mouse example of zillions. However, if you think me wrong, and you want to prove you are correct, then go onto someones property and tell them the rescources on their property are the people’s and try taking them. To “socialismrocks”:

It is the other way around!! …Without successful taxpaying citizens/entrepreneurs government falls flat on it’s face. In OUR American way of life, WE THE PEOPLE are in charge and control – NOT government. THIS is what our founding fathers fought, died for and gave us a Constitution that guarantees us these rights to freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Take your socialistic (COMMUNISM) and shove it where the sun will NEVER shine! Move to a country that already subscribes to the ideologies you prefer to embrace. I’m sure most of us who still love our country the way it was will be more than happy to buy you a ticket (one way) to Venezuela, Cuba, Russia, China, North Korea or even Iran or Egypt whichever you prefer more???

Then why do the socialist continue to say it would not be possible without government. Government doesn’t produce revenue. They tax the people, so the money comes from us and we should decide where it goes.
The wealthier are in their own right paying more taxes. They pay employees who in turn pay taxes. So the wealthy and corporations not only contribute with their own tax dollars they generate a way and means for others to have income to produce tax dollars for government programs.

The problem with socialist they have the same argument as the Chicken or the Egg, which came first.

The socialist believe we exist to support the government, we believe the government exist to provide those things outlined in the Constitution.

So how about securing our borders.

Better yet, since you like for us to do with less, this is what we are going to do for government. We will cut government by 50% 20% reduction in pay across the board? Why? Because not only do we pay your salaries we pay your pensions. That cost us 50 years of wages. For that you get 80% of your present salaries. Don’t like it, to bad get a private job.
The other 30% reduction will be in headcount and operations budget. Why? Because when a corporation needs to cut back these are the measures they take to right their ship or adjust to the economy. Much of the headcount reduction will come in the dissolving of the Postal Service and the IRS.
Flat tax rate paid when you make purchases. No payroll t

For those who are consumed with petty envy, a successful person is anathema to them. His or her very existence is an insult to their lives, dreams and ambitions. They see a successful person as a spotlight continually illuminating their own fears of being judged.

Do you remember when you were a kid and thought that the world revolved around you? That you were on a vast stage, and the whole world was watching? Then later on you grew up and realized this was just a childish illusion? Well these envious little weasels never grew up, and their numbers are increasing.

These people say to themselves, “I’m a good person. I deserve to be successful just as much as anyone. Why am I a failure and that guy over there a success?”

And they answer their own question as all cowards do, by not examining the condition of their own lives, and their own choices. They instead become convinced that the successful person is a scoundrel who cheated, and using their clever wiles prospered on the backs of innocent and hard working people.

    BECAUSE…

If that’s not true, then these little narcistic weasels must blame themselves and find their dreams, their work lacking.

This guy makes my ears bleed. Liberals are like cult members. They are brainwashed through the education system (which id the main reason they will never allow competetion) and you can show the facts, graphs, videos, audio that PROVES they are wrong and they will still argue the point. We need deprogramming camps. Their reasoning is absolutly mind-numbingly stupid!

If they would stand up and say what they really believe and want, be it socalist, marxism, communist, etc. I could at least respect them. I would never agree, but I can respect a honest person. It’s when they perversely twist the reasoning to their agenda makes me sick that they have no allegance to the greatest nation ever – the first nation designed to NOT be controled by a central gov’t and these asse$ are doing their best to destroy it. That’s treason!!!

My newest question to these malcontents, is to ask them which country would they prefer to live in, granting that the don’t have my permission to change the land and the free and the home of the brave,
      country that I love?

I know what president choom meant. I am not stupid, nor are the majority of us. We do not need a translation. If for some reason our first gay president was off message then he is an ineffective communicator and should get back to school, which by the way, is where he belongs.

Fine. Start confiscating the enormous wealth of Hollywood and the entertainment industry. Then go after the billionaires of Google, Yahoo, Facebook, and others. Then start taxing the unions, the churches, the mosques, charities, soup kitchens and rape shelters. Why not simply tax the crap out of everyone who puts up no resistance? Do it, go ahead. wreck one of the most productive innovative countries on the planet. When the money spigot runs dry the government will shrivel up and blow away. I can’t wait.

What these politicians are forgetting, is they don‘t exist without our tax dollars and it’s time we put our foot down and stop this craziness called big government.

We need to elect the Congress person to ensure they are working to lower federal government wages and also to reduce departmental spending and headcount.

They keep telling the American people to do with less while they continue to give themselves raises and creating new departments to suck us dry. BS! BS! BS! BS!

I’m tired of their constant BS! Every word out of their mouths is BS!

Every single politician in DC better find a hole to crawl into becauuse when this country goes belly up broke, I will be looking for all those so called intelligent AS#%9les who kept running the tab up and growing government faster than the economy.

Harvard and Yale presidents for 24 years and we are 16 trillion in debt. I without a Master’s degree can live within my means and balance my check book. They are doing what they are doing intentially in order to destroy the Republic and they all need to be tried in a Military court martial and sentenced accordingly. Every guilty party should have their execution broadcasted on public television for all of us to justice finally being served to the people.

They are war criminals because they are attempting to destroy this nation and should be held accountable as such. It’s time to fill up Levinworth with tyrants before the streets are covered with the blood of pa

What about home schoolers????? What a fool to think that government would exist without the tax from the governed. Dictators always want to control everything. Getting a cut of the increase. I watched enough of “robin hood” movies to know that the strong arm of government to crush you unless you pay up. America became great because of freedom from God. Government got out of the way with free enterprise. “American Dream” is still alive not the socialist /marxist “utopia.

If we go back to the beginning, nobody helped get a business started, except a person, or people who ventured to do so. Government was not a single part of it!
Likewise, nothing government can do or create is down without a business having made it possible! Government does not make the computers they use, nor the paper, the uniforms for the military, fighter planes……. Nothing! They only make red tape to hold everything back. Without businesses government would not have been able contract the roads, schools, and administrative offices…. They’d have nothing! Government does NOTHING without businesses and the wealth they create through employing workers or selling products.

The one thing government does do well is exploit(tax) all that business has created for their own agenda of vote buying and remaining in power.

There’s work to be done on all levels, starting with your local school board. This too has depressed me for four complete years. Exactly, I can listen to some opposing points of view. Chris Hahn has admitted to lying for his team before & that bald headed grin he has after saying something ridiculously stupid boils my blood. Automatic channel change when they say he is going to be on a show & did not watch the example above.
