Ill-Advised: GOP Sen Responds to Tax Question With ‘Blow Up the Place’

War-like and battlefield language seems to be making its way around Washington. Just yesterday, President Obama compared the American people to “hostages,“ the GOP to ”hostage takers,” and then called John Boehner (R-OH) a “bomb thrower.” Now, come to find out, a day earlier a GOP senator responded to a question on taxes by using the ill-advised analogy “I think we have to blow up the place.”
CNS News reports on the exchange between a questioner and retiring Sen. George Voinovich (R-OH):
“I know you came out in favor of what the debt commission [the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform] did but how do we get from here to there?” Voinovich was asked during a roundtable discussion at the Aspen Institute on Monday.
“Well, I think we have to blow up the place. There’s a big debate going on right now and most people want to work an agreement, they’re going to extend it [the Bush tax cuts], some deal will be made,” said Voinovich.
When later asked if he would vote against “tax extensions” he vowed, “I’m voting against everything. I am”:

Posted on December 8, 2010 at 5:01pmHow utterly stupid & out touch our representatives are! Passing this ignorant extension of Unemployment benefits again, while the elderly are cut again! Honestly I cannot believe that they do not know that half if not more than half the people on Unemployment are working under the table. They are collecting unemployment checks while getting paid cash from employers.. It’s heaven for them, and those not working under the table are laying on their asses not excepting any job that pays them less than they were earning before. I just found out that the Republicans, my representatives blocked a $250. stimulus for those receiving social security. Rents have inceased, heating & cooling cost have increased, groceries have increased gas for autos, increased (none of these are counted in the inflation ratio) but give the lazy asses more free money, and starve the elderly! I’m so done, is everyone ass backwards? Those that cant earn a living, because of health or age, get screwed Those who can, get off your asses, work 2 low paying jobs if you have too. I’ve done it many times. I have 3 neighbors, they worked hard all their life, 2 are elderly 70′s with no help of a COLA this year they might have to give up what independence they have and go to a care home, so they can have heating & food. Shame Shame Shame…I just called my church to see what we can do to keep them in their homes, we are all up against it, but we will try to help them. For my lazy, cheating neighbor that is working under the table and on the 3rd extension of unemployment, I’m turning your ass in!

Posted on December 8, 2010 at 4:27pmThe article is correct that warring words are now the norm in our congress. But it did not start with the Republicans. One must remember Nancy Pelosi calling the Tea party members as “Nazis” “thugs” and other unflattering terms. She even went as far as insinuating her life is threatened by these Tea party members. Democratic congressmen followed her example in calling the American voter and the tea party members in the most ugliest terms, this without any reaction from Obama.
President Obama alone has claimed racism on issues that had nothing to do with racism, and as reported in this article Obama took the words reaction to the GOP senator of his metaphoric statement of “blowing up this place” out of context and was quick in using it to his advantage.
Any sane person would realize that the words “ blowing up this place” was not to be taken literally but in the context of a stubborn and uncorporative President still stuck on dead issues.
Report Post »Yes I too agree with that GOP Senator that the congress and the Senate need to be metaphorically spoken “blown up” or in its translation stand up with stern and vigor against the vicious acts that the Obama government has willfully pushed at the cost of this nation.

Invest in precious metals including brass and lead. stock up on long tern food supplies and all that goes with that – get some organic seeds, sore water etc etc. If possible get like minded people together and form an alliance – Numbers will help share the load and protection. Posted on December 8, 2010 at 4:13pmLook, bottom line is simple.
Obama & Dems have been calling the Republicans hostage takers. Well, they’re the ones threatening to kill the deal right now, despite Obama‘s own economic advisor Larry Summers saying a double dip recession is a vertual certainty if this doesn’t pass.
It’s perfectly clear to me who the hostage takers are.
Interesting thing here? Finally an Obama Administration Dem has cited the correlation between high taxes and low economic growth.
Now all we have to do is to get them to understand that if it’s bad for the economy if the group that only pays 25% of the taxes gets their taxes raised, it’s worse for the economy if the group that pays 70% gets its taxes raised.

This where I disagree the most with conservatives. Local government is even worse than federal government. Look at how the Mormons were treated by local governments in their early days. I have no doubt that if it were up to local governments, Mormons would still be kicked out of town in many places. You’ll have local tyrants that are much worse than big government.

Posted on December 8, 2010 at 3:51pmARMED REBELLION, CERTAINLY NOT:
Recently, some of my Facebook friends have posted messages hinting that armed rebellion might be necessary to free us from the tyrants. Violent revolution might well free us from the current crop of tyrants but would almost certainly mean the end Of the American Revolution. The result would most likely be a new dictator who promised free elections as soon as order could be restored. Look at history. That was Castro’s promise and Cuba is still waiting for him to restore the Constitution and provide free elections.
In all of history is only been one George Washington! There have been many revolutions and without an external intervention all had degenerated into a dictatorship. There has been only one “George Washington” ready, willing and able to create a constitutional republic. If violence erupts in our country, in an attempt to dispose of the tyrants, the result will almost surely be a dictatorship and the world will sink back into the Middle Ages. http://commonsense21c.com/

Sure there might be ten’s of thousands in the military that think a coup would be good but there are hundreds of thousands that will side with the people of the USA and defend them to the death.
i don’t think the senator meant “blow up the place” as a call to killing Congress or attacking the government with armed rebellion…I think from the rest of his comment he was talking about an explosion of political fighting among the parties and within the parties.
the Tea Party 9/12 type movements have essentially “blown up” the business as usual attitude in Washington and they are running scared right now. We just need to keep on the pressure and blow up any further unconstitutional bill until the old guard is completely removed…that includes these deal making WEASEL RINOs like McCain, Graham, and apparently McConnell

He chose the higher path again and again and said (paraphrasing) ‘No, we did not fight only to be placed into a similar situation’. We must work from within the system and find the George Washington’s of our day to place into office. Those that will do the right thing by reducing the ever increasing stranglehold our own government has upon us!

The define of evince is “ To show or demonstrate clearly”.
Now, the ObamaCare individual mandate can be construed as failing to live up to his Constitutionally prescribed oath “…and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”. That is, he failed to preserve and protect the Constitution by signing ObamaCare into law using the Commerce Clause as a rationale and this is an attempt to usurp the peoples rights and to increase the power of Congress.
However, Obama has not yet (IMHO) had a long train of abuses and usurpations. But, give the lose another 2 years.

Posted on December 8, 2010 at 5:14pmConsider Hillary Clinton’s “reset button” for a moment; the one she presented to the Russians. When you “reset” something, you wipe out all that came before it. Essentially then, what’s the difference between the button and the bomb?
In that, the senator chose language to convey a sentiment that wiping the slate clean and starting over is desired; emphasis on the fact that it should be swift and thorough is synonymous with blowing it up . . . or pressing the reset button.
Tell political correctness to go to hell . . . the censorship of ideas, an age old progressive tactic. The attack liberals invented to isolate their ideas as close to the political sunshine as possible and blow all others into the wind as if a bomb has gone off.

Let’s concentrate on keeping our newly elected and incumbent Republicans honest. Follow their votes, let everyone know if they vote the wrong way. Email and call your representatives in the Senate and the House and TELL them how you want them to vote on key issues. If they don’t we have elections in 2012 (remind them of that) and we can replace them. Guns and violence will only give the administration the motivation it needs to declare Martial Law and put troops in the street. NO ONE wants that. Work with your local Tea Party to keep pressure on Congress. Work with Freedomworks too. Stay non-violent and put the pressure on Washington in the only way they understand with your with phone calls, emails and most importantly your VOTE!
