Illegal Alien Arrested While Working Inside Arizona Nuclear Plant

An Illegal alien from Mexico was arrested on Wednesday while working inside an Arizona nuclear plant, KVOA-TV reports. The plant is the largest such facility in the country.

Cruz Loya Alvares was taken into custody after authorities at the Palo Verde plant in Wintersburg, AZ admitted him in, but then later became suspicious of his ID card, believing it to be fraudulent:

MyFoxPhoenix.com reports that Alvares allegedly admitted to being an illegal alien for over a decade and has recently been stopped by police:

Alvares allegedly admitted to being in the U.S. illegally for the better part of the past 15 years.

Alvares was deported in 2000, but paid a human smuggler for re-entry into the U.S., Arpaio says. And last month, Mesa Police cited Alvares for driving on a suspended license.

Illegal Alien Arrested While Working Inside Arizona Nuclear PlantAccording to KVOA, infamous AZ Sheriff Joe Arpaio said that Alvares actually tried to enter the plant on Monday, but was denied because he tried to use an expired Mexican driver’s license as ID. He then came back on Tuesday in a contractor’s vehicle and was let in after showing an AZ identification card.

MyFoxPhoenix.com says “Alvares had been on site over the past two weeks doing remodeling work at an administrative building.”

The plant has tried to downplay the incident, saying that its security procedures worked as planned. It also says Alvares was never granted access to any secure areas of the facility and added, “the safety of the plant and public were never jeopardized.”

But even if that’s true, Arpaio has some concerns.

“To some extent,” Arpaio told KVOA, “security at this nuclear power plant worked. But still, an illegal immigrant was permitted to gain access to this facility. This raises the question: how safe is Palo Verde really if an illegal alien can gain access to this nation’s largest nuclear power facility?

He added: “This suggests to me that sadly, like our nation’s borders, our most critical public utilities/installations are perhaps not nearly as safely guarded as they need to be.”

That may be especially true considering a policy at the plant. Apparently, if a contractor brings a worker with him that doesn’t have proper identification, the contractor can “vouch” for the worker.

“In post 9/11 times, ‘vouching’ for employees who contractor’s know little about is not good practice for a facility as critical as a nuclear power plant,” Arpaio told KVOA.

      Obama stands alone on the world stage. Foreign friends tell me their countries see Obama as a weak President and the United States is no longer seen as the strong leader of the world.
      At the G20 Summit, Obama wanted to keep spending and even Merkel of Germany disagreed strongly with Obama about continuing spending. Merkel said her country had clamped down drastically on spending and the other members of the G20 Summit agreed with Merkel. I was not surprised that Obama wanted to keep spending!

This shows our extreme vulnerability and we don’t HAVE to be this way.     Make getting here so dangerous and the price for being caught here illegally so severe that they will no longer take the chance. They come because they think there is opportunity here make it so they have no opportunities and that being caught is so severe that it is no longer worth trying to get here. If we make it harder on them here than what they‘re leaving there they won’t come, I know it’s harsh, but what else will work? We put up a fence they climb over or tunnel under, we arrest them they come back. If we make so bad to be caught that they fear it then they will not chance it, if the pennalities are so severe for getting caught trying to or being caught here they will stop comming. Word will spread and the idea of comming here will be out of the question. Legally is fine but, caught illegally you don’t want to go there!

      It will never happen. Even if we pass laws now an activist judge blocks the law or a crimmigration group sues to block the law. Our laws aren’t being enforced anymore so it is now up to the American people to enforce our own laws. We need to form militias and track and target these illegals, these activist groups and those that support them. We need to start carrying out secret campaigns that cause them repeated economic damage and intimidation. Strategize and use covert tactics.     shouldn‘t the contractor be held liable for hiring someone that didn’t have the right papers to start with? then vouch for him… seems lame. when we as Americans only hire Americans then we will have less of a crappy economy. every person that knowingly hires a illegal to save money should have there license pulled and a fine of at least $500 per person.

      Fine the contractor $250,000 for knowingly hiring the guy. And don‘t tell me you wouldn’t be suspicious of this guy and it is hard to check his status. How hard is it to have every contractor submit a list of employees with verification of their citizenship. Focus on the employers breaking the law will start moving us in the right direction.

      I work for computer services company and I can tell you some of the places I have been to were much better than others. For one shop south of Houston, they ran a background check for all of us that entered and gave us photo ID‘s in exchange for our driver’s licenses. We were allowed to park 1/4 mile away only and we had an escort 100% of the time. It sounds like this AZ plant has some retraining to do.

      Don’t you realize that we are not talking about farm workers anymore. They have crept into every part of our work force and most of it can be blamed on the employer. Cheap bidding for contracts kicks the legal worker out and relies on the illegal at cheap wages. Then the wages stick for future jobs even for the legal worker. Money talks and the big contributers from the businesses keep the politicians in line. The states are inundated with this plague and it has to be stopped not with immunity but with the law.       Hey they don’t belong here and should be shown the door so to speak ASAP. However, don‘t blame them for the wage rate as I’m sure they would except more if it was offered. Doesn’t appear that overall construction costs have come down either, so where is the difference in the wage rate ending up. Profits for the employers……. Tough to work if employers don’t hire them. Time to fine the employers hiring them until they stop the practice or go into bankruptcy.

      Bush deported him, it doesn’t say when he came back in. The story also doesn’t explain how this illegal was able to be a passenger in a contractor truck. The practice of vouching and the voucher needs to also be arrested. Had Obama not interfered in AZ immigration laws, they could have caught him in June.
      This is the problem with Mexican immigrants. Some do try to become legal, but most don’t. This guy has had 15 years to do so, but never became legal.
      I would venture to guess that they don’t believe they have to become legal, because they believe this is their land. They also do not become legal, because there are no deterrents put in place by this and the previous administration to do so.

      I would rather have a competent security around the facility itself to make it as hard as possible for such a failure to occur again — I know there will almost always be one some time; yet it can still be made reasonably more secure by filling in any loopholes and tightening up the discipline at the place.

    Okay now that it has happened seal up the obvious holes in the security around the place; which hopefully is not a utter joke and failed just this one time…still a failure though that needs to be dealt with swiftly.

    Worst case scenario; a radical band — terrorists, home grown lunatic, eco radicals, etc, — see this matter and attempt to exploit it for their own extreme ends; say to infiltrate a person or group and try, repeat TRY, to cause damage to the nuclear plant.

    Hopefully they will not attempt to do so; and the other question now is, what will the Obama admin do with this matter? How will they use it to their own advantage for even more control being imposed onver the people of America?

      If this is a standard operation; they will react by debriefing the staff and perpetrator, learning the root causes with specific details, and strengthening the site security with the lessons learned.
