In Diversity We Trust? Obama Botches U.S. National Motto

A convenient talking point became the latest source of political fodder for President Barack Obama’s antagonists on Capitol Hill Monday. Members of Congress on Monday called on President Obama to issue a public correction after he incorrectly identified “E pluribus unum” as the official motto of the United States, supplanting the country’s real motto, “In God We Trust.”

The verbal gaffe happened in November as President Obama spoke at the University of Indonesia.  In trying to spell out some similarities between the two countries, Obama compared national mottos.

“In the United States, our motto is ‘E pluribus unum’ — out of many, one,” he said, then compared it to the Indonesian motto, “Bhennika Tunggal Ika — unity in diversity.”

The official motto of the U.S. was established by law in 1956 as “In God We Trust.”

According to the Washington Times, members of the Congressional Prayer Caucus also remarked that President Obama has displayed “a pattern” of dropping references to God in his public addresses, previously leaving out references of the “Creator” in reciting men’s “endowed” rights spelled out in the Declaration of Independence.

“By misrepresenting things as foundational as the Declaration of Independence and our national motto, you are not only doing a disservice to the people you represent you are casting aside an integral part of American society,” the representatives wrote in a letter requesting the correction.

    This bonehead seems to have problems with things like God, Christmas, Judeo-Christian Nation, Pledge of Allegiance, Crossing his heart during the National Anthem, etc. I wish this muslim socialist would just resign and go back to Indonesia. Kenya might even be better, because We the People need a strong Christian leader who believes in God and love America. Impeach Obama now!

      Christian leader my *ss. We need someone who believes in the constituiton…which says nothing about christianity. By the way, the original motto, before it was hijacked by the religious anti commie fervor during the 1950s Red Scare was…..wait for it…..E PLURIBUS UNUM. Adopted in 1780 BEFORE the Constituiton was ratified. You know, the document that says NOTHING about Christianity. Deal with it !!

Tell us please….what was the original national motto at the time our FOUNDING FATHERS were still crafting the US Constitution?? C’mon….you know what it was. Why not fess up and tell us all?       While the DOI is certainly foundational…the current national motto is NOT. It is, after all, not the original motto and has NOTHING to do with the foundation of the US or the founders themselves. To imply otherwise is a cheap shot by the Prayer Breakfast folks (another convention from the 1950s), which is merely regurgitated on the BLAZE to feed an audience that likely doesnt know what the original motto actually was. cheap…cheap…cheap.

      Well ya know, slavery used to be legal here as well. You want to go back to those days even though someone came along and changed the law now making it illegal? What once was and what is now are totally two different things. If this is the best defense you have, well… You’ve simply proven the point of this article. It is NOT a cheap shot and I am SICK to death of being told that God isn’t appropriate and I am even more sick of people trying to exclude him from this country. I am not ashamed of my God and there isn’t a thing anyone will say to me that will ever change that. You want people to wake up? Well, wake up to the fact that it is BECAUSE this nation has turned it’s back on God that the things of today are happening. The founding fathers knew it that is why they based everything on God.     The ORIGINAL motto of the US was, indeed, E Pluribus Unum, established in 1782. You know….when the FOUNDING FATHERS were still working on the US Constitution. So…..Obama is merely espousing the intent of the founders, and not the religious fervor prompted by the red scare of the 1950s.

      Excellent point, Patriot. When I read the story, something clicked about what you posted, but I wasn’t sure if I remembered right or not. Pro or con, it certainly does illustrate that history is easily rewritten for influencing any that have not actually lived it. Look what an easy job our education system has today for indoctrination, what with all the leeway they have been given by the more radical left. The red scare period was just another example from the other side being in charge.

History is real easy for dishonest winners to re-write, especially since the socialist agenda has been doing just that for at least 50 years in the school system. Even my years (50′s-60′s) have shown a lot of what I was taught was slanted (i.e. WIlson, FDR, etc.) that I didn’t realize.

      This statement is very true in the disrespect given to the Declaration of Independence, and to the USA as a integral whole. It is the very diversity of our culture brought together in the ‘great American melting pot’ that enriches the country each and every day – ideals, dreams, culture and languages mixed into the whole. United as one people – American citizens – from a diversity of people of the world.

      In Mr Obama’s case though, he truly seems to feel that only in diversity and division he is able to unify the country. By conflict and class warfare he can keep the nation messed up enough to be the ‘next Lincoln” or the ‘next Washington’ who will make a new America out of the wreckage of those past before him.

      The People of America are her strength, diverse as the land from north to south, east to west, strong as the mountains in our character – for each is a unique hill or mountain embedded to the core of our constitutional strength, and united in the great range of mountains to where together no one will be able to move us unless we chose to be moved.

      We are writing the future of America now, at this time, by what we chose to do or not to do.

      America will not go into the night unless we chose to let her go that way.

      Americans are free
      Americans are strong
      Americans are proud
      Americans are ticked off with the progressives.

      Keep pushing forward, and one step at a time we reclaim the country – family, community, city and state at a time.

      People confuse being a practicing Muslim with being Muslim by birth. Obama is the latter, just like his dad.

      There are a significant number of communist Muslims in Africa. Remember that the Soviet tentacles extended all the way to Africa, back when the USSR could afford to export Cubans to that continent. By contrast, it is rarer to find Marxist Muslims in the Middle East, given that the Arab Muslim world is theocratic, i.e., they have Islamic political regimes from which it is practically impossible to deviate without facing execution.

      We need to stop equating Islam with Christianity. If you are born a Muslim, you remain a Muslim for life. That is how Islam will conquer the world.

      THIS FROM A SUPPOSED CONSTITUTIONAL SCHOLOR! Now more than ever I challange his claim to his educatioal background. Now more than ever I think he has a bought degree and thus no college transcripts. The only other explanation is he is from a different world and is unfamiliar with our Constitution. Is he intentionally tryiong to change the meaning and wording of the Constitution? Sure seems so. Then there is one last argument. It is just plain stupid and ignorant when it comes to the Constitution. Never in the history of this country have we had a POTUS to misquote the Constitution every time he refrences it even with a telepromter. Foreigners know our constitution better than the POTUS and his telepromter writers. This imposter is the biggest embarrasment in the history of the country. He makes Carter a great POTUS.

      Praise the Lord for those politicians who have the courage to stand up for what’s constitutionally right for and in our country. Obama’s omissions of the word “Creator” from the USA Constitution and the substitution of “ E pluribus Unum” for the official USA motto “ In God We Trust” are deliberate attempts to take God out of our American society and government. America demands an apology from the POTUS and a promise that such actions will not be repeated. If President Obama is a Christian ,as he claims to be, he would not try to erase the name or mention of God from his speeches. The USA is not a “Muslim” nation has he has stated previously, but is a Christian nation, established upon Christian Biblical principles by our founding fathers. Mr. President, your apology to the American people is long over due.

      Trusting in God is not convenient to this “Christian” who believes that his individual salvation depends on whatever he defines as the collective foundation. “E pluribus unum” is more convenient since it can be spun into the collectivism he prefers.

      He can’t even utter the word “God” in his quotations because he would prefer to say the other G word: “in GOVERNMENT, we trust” is what he really believes, which is much more to his liking of his fellow progressives.

      I say he’s next in line to being a traitor to THE PEOPLE of The United States of America! Yes WE the PEOPLE he represents! How many times has he made a fool of us? Not bowing to the Queen of Egland giving her a foolish useless gift! Yet giviing a deep bow to the King of Egypt? Why? The King of Egypt is a Muslim. Why bow to a muslim if you are not also a muslim?

      Why leave out God unless you don’t believe in God. There is no other reason. He left out One Nation Under God when he recited the Pledge of Allegance on national TV. Why? He is not Christian.

      This man does not Ever salute the military that serve our country. How can he be the Chief and Commander of Our Military when he Never salutes them? He does not recognize them so he cannot be their leader. Besides he knows nothing about such matters, and has not educated himself nor surrounded himself with good leaders in such matters.

      I say he is on the boarder of impeachment for never saluting the flag or even putting his hand over his heart. His hands are always folded tightly in his crocht while the military salutes him with the flag. He always has a silly grin of some sort on his face. This is unspeakable for a President of the United States to behave in such a way! To Ignore the Flag and the Military! To omit God in everything he does when Our Country was built upon God! Our Fathers built this country upon God, Faith and Hope! I know my Fathers came over on the Mayflower! They fought for Freedom! I have their histories, I know their faith. To have a Godless man in the White House is a disgrace.

      Yes I say he is standing on thin ice! Not so many years ago he would have been impeached for not saluting Our Flag, Our Troops, and for leaving God out of Our Country! What is wrong with this generation? Why don’t we hold the traditions of our Grandfathers?

    @PATRIOT… I agree, but when you consider that this was a main point in his speech he could have at least put the word “original” in front of “motto” and been correct in all terms of the speech, factually and intent. For someone that constantly relies on an army of fact checkers (as they should) Obama has certainly had far more than his fair share of gaffes on this particular subject.
