‘In God We Trust’ Will Be Allowed on New Georgia License Plates — for $1

Georgia drivers will be able to proclaim “In God We Trust” on their new state license plates — for the price of a dollar.

One of three semifinalist license plate designs shown on the Department of Revenue's website with the U.S. motto "In God We Trust."
The new license plate design, which was set to be revealed Friday by Gov. Nathan Deal, will feature a space where motorists can add an optional sticker that says “In God We Trust” in place of where a county’s name would otherwise go.
However, the governor is delaying his announcement of the new design amid some controversy and confusion over the four-word U.S. motto.
The trouble began last month following a contest for best new license plate design. When the Department of Revenue released images of the eight semifinalists for an online vote, three were shown printed with the words “In God We Trust.”
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, atheist groups and others balked at the inclusion of the phrase, calling it a flagrant violation of church and state, and urged people to vote against the designs. Other groups in favor of the phrase, including a church and a website dedicated to preparing for the collapse of American society, urged voters to select one of the three.
The department clarified that the three designs in question were merely shown with an optional “In God We Trust” sticker, available for purchase. If selected, the phrase would not come preprinted.
Nevertheless, the top three designs picked out of more than 400,000 votes cast were all the ones that were shown with “In God We Trust.” As a result, the governor’s office announced Friday that online voting would reopen Monday because of the confusion.
Additionally, in response to the plate controversy, the American Humanist Association called Thursday for an alternative to the optional sticker — “E Pluribus Unum,“ or ”Out Of Many, One” — the original U.S. motto.

Besides that, would the DMV flag a swear word in another language anyway? I doubt it.

Clearly you don’t understand how the American legal system works. Prop. 8 was not ruled invalid because the judge decided the people of CA were wrong. It was invalidated because it was ruled to violate the Constitution. You see, the Constitution places limits on which laws can be passed regardless of the will of the people. If it violates the Constitution, the law is invalid, period.
Your argument is akin to saying that if the will of the people was to re-institute slavery slavery that it should be allowed just because it is the will of the people. If the Mississippi voters approved a referendum legalizing slavery, would you then say that the judge who strikes down the law is going against the will of the people? I’m guessing you would not.
That is not how the American legal system works, deal with it.

Report Post »the ballot proposition was for a constitutional ammendment. The fact that it passed should have ammended the state constitution. Since the Defence of Marriage Act IS decided US law and the Constitution does not prohibit its establishment, Prop 8 was illeaglly hijacked by a liberal homosexual judge, whos bias is astoudingly obvious. Your reply seems as if you understand these things possibly better than I, but this is glaringly a subversion of the will of the people
Godfather.1
Posted on July 15, 2011 at 4:43pmSOUTHERNGAL
A state constitution cannot subvert the US Constitution. Thus, if the amendment to the CA constitution violates the US Constitution, the amendment is invalid. Yes, DOMA, is a federal law but that does not mean that it necessarily Constitutional. The Supreme Court has not ruled on the law so it is not certain that it is Constitutional. In fact, there have been lower courts that have ruled that it is not constitutional.
It is true that the judge who ruled that Prop. 8 unconstitutional is homosexual and a liberal. However, that alone does not make him biased. He would be no more biased than a conservative who is against gay marriage. Also, using that argument is akin to saying that no female could rule on an abortion issue because it affects women and her differently or that a minority judge could not rule on civil rights issues. Everyone has their own personal biases but we trust that judges separate their biases from the their legal decisions and only rely on the rule of law.
Again, it does not matter what the will of the people is if it goes against the Constitution. If a law is unconstitutional, it is unconstitutional, and it does not matter how many people support the law.

Some of them have to infiltrate other parts of the US and sue sue sue til’ they get their way. What a miserable life some of those schmucks live. Living to sue. Living to disprove God. Just a little FYI, a little known atheist named CS Lewis tried to disprove God when he was younger…..needless to say he changed his tune rather abruptly.
However, atheists, like liberals must fan out to force their crap down the majority’s throats. Apparently normal people cannot catch a peace break. Nope, the whiny bitter sniveling little punks have to snipe every chance they get.
