In His Own Words: New Video Shows George Zimmerman Walking Cops Through the Trayvon Martin Shooting

SANFORD, Fla. (The Blaze/AP) — A newly-released video shows Florida neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman at the scene of Trayvon Martin’s fatal shooting a day later giving police a blow-by-blow account of his fight with the teen.

In a video posted on a website by Zimmerman’s defense team, Zimmerman said Martin saw his gun and reached for it as the two scuffled on the sidewalk at a gated apartment community in Sanford. That’s when Zimmerman said he pulled the gun and shot the teenager.

The tape shows two butterfly bandages on the back of Zimmerman’s head and another on his nose. There are red marks on the front of his head.

On the tape, Zimmerman did a reenactment of the scuffle with Martin in the moments before he shot the 17-year-old from Miami. Zimmerman said Martin kept “slamming and slamming” his head on the sidewalk. “It felt like my head was going to explode,” he said.

ABC has more on what Zimmerman recounted:

“I shot him, and I didn’t think I hit him because he sat up and said, ‘Oh you got me. You got me, you got it,’” said Zimmerman during a nearly 20-minute re-enactment shot by investigators at the scene of the shooting the next day.

In the video Zimmerman, 28, gives a blow by blow description of how the fight began and depicts Martin as the aggressor, a key point as his legal team builds his defense on Florida’s controversial “stand your ground” law.

Zimmerman said he was driving to buy groceries when he spotted the unarmed teen walking near a house that he knew Martin did not live in and called police to report a suspicious person.

“I just felt like something was off about him…and there’s been a history of break-ins … so I said you know just better to call. I kept driving and I passed him, and he kept staring at me and staring around,” Zimmerman said.

Zimmerman told police the confrontation began when he saw Martin walking toward him on the evening of Feb. 26.

He had already called 911 after spotting the teen in the neighborhood. Police say Martin was staying at his father‘s girlfriend’s townhome in the Retreat at Twin Lakes, a gated community in Sanford. The teen was walking back to the home after going to a nearby convenience store.

Martin was reported missing by his father, Tracy Martin, the next morning.

The Orlando Sentinel (http://bit.ly/M8ARMg ) reported that Tracy Martin called 911 the morning after the teen’s shooting and said he had been missing since the night before. During the 3-minute call, he gave the dispatcher identifying information about his son. A few minutes later, the dispatcher called back to get more information about the teen and told Martin an officer was on his way for an interview.

Officials released a transcript of the 911 call Wednesday.

Zimmerman’s defense team also posted video of him giving an interview at the police station:

Also Wednesday, Sanford City Manager Norton Bonaparte fired police chief Bill Lee, who had been criticized for his department’s initial investigation into the shooting.

Zimmerman has been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting. He claims he shot the teen in self-defense, under Florida’s “stand your ground” law.

    How about that gash he has on the back of his head? Looks like that thug beat him up pretty good! With those injuries they will never convict and make it stick! I say he acted in self defense plain and simple!

      Amazing isn’t it … the evidence matches the claims of Zimmerman .. they need to release him and his wife (yes she has been charged for perjury .. they knew they would need money to hide . and didn’t want the court to leave them without the ability .. I would feel the same if people were threatening my life and making wanted posters) He should have NOT been arrested .. now the Police Chief (or Sheriff don’t remember the title) has been fired for doing the RIGHT THING .. just because AL, Jesse, The NBPP made a lot of noise … and threats!

      Al, Jesse, the NBPP are the ones who should be arrested …. you can’t put a bounty on the life of another citizen.

      You lie, Zimm. If that young football player had banged your head repeatedly against the SIDEWALK, you would have been carried out of that place half-dead on a stretcher or in a body bag. Where’s the fractured skull; the swollen brain? Instead, you calmly told witnesses to call 911. You were coherent when you spoke to the police, and you walked out of there on your own two feet. Then there’s the audio tape. Unfortunately for you, it doesn’t lie. Why didn’t your cries get weaker with each blow? In fact, dude, they get considerably louder towards the end. It’s not pain that I hear in those cries; it’s sheer terror. Then a shot followed by silence. You killed him out of anger, didn’t you?

      I believe Zimmerman simply because facts and statistics are VERY predominantly in favor of him being the original victim of the violence of that night. Originally I was skeptical because every image of him showed in the media was carefully chosen to show him in a negative light and every one of Trayvon was from when he was a 12 year old kid. It soon became apparent to me that the apologetic media was putting Zimmerman on trial by the public using their control of the airwaves…and also that everyone was trying to forestall riots by blacks a la LA after Rodney King. (I predict there will be riots anyway after Zim is found not guilty…and they will be as bad as the riots white people started after O.J. was acquitted. Oh, wait…….)

      I am dying to hear your imagined version of the events immediately before the shooting. How did Zimmerman end up with so many wounds, while Martin had only the one entry wound and bruised knuckles?

      I do not think Zimms hunted him down and intended to murder him. Nor do I think Trayvon set out to harm Zimms. Zimms was very eager to see what Trayvon was up to, and probably over did it. Did Trayvon get an attitude and say something to him? Probably so. Don’t know exactly what lead up to this, but I don’t think Trayvon was following Zimms. It seems like it was one of those situations where one guy says something (well intended or not) and that lead to another thing, and so on and so forth. I think it’s pretty clear Zimms made a mistake, but I don’t think he should be charged with murder.

      Well, Karl, if you are going by stats then you are biased. Stats should never determine a person’s guilt or innocence. Now, if you go by criminal/juvenile record, respectively, both get a check. And if you go by level of aggression, Zimm’s your guy. He was charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest, although the charges were subsequently dropped because his dad is a retired magistrate judge.

      What facts? That Zimm was probably knocked to the ground and banged his head? The fact that Martin punched him in the face does not imply that he intended to beat Zimm to death. Anyone who looks at this case objectively can see that the guy with the history of verbal and physical violence is NOT Martin. It’s Zimm.

      As for Obama and his state media, that’s a separate issue. I too foresee riots if Zimm goes free, but IMO the witness 911 call will be a decisive piece of evidence against him.

      Come on. The guy has put on some weight since, but all it took was one solid punch to the face.

      My guess is when Martin, who was a tall, athletic young man in his prime saw this little guy come after him, he got cocky. You were once a teenager too. You know teen males get in fights all the time, especially if they are provoked, and almost certainly if they are provoked by a small man of a different race. Personally, I don’t think this was a racial thing for Zimm, but it definitely was for Martin, and you can bet the verbal exchanges became racially charged very quickly.

      Why did he do this? Didn’t the police read him his Maranda warning? This is horrible, he slipped the noose around his own neck. Eric Holder will use every frame of the confession to crucify Zimmerman and his wife. Now the government has his wife in jail. None of this evidence will help him but will be used to find him guilty. Oh, what made him do this?

      The goal is to insure that no white person will ever dare kill a black no matter what what the black is doing. The government will insure that it would be better to die at the hand of a black killer than to shoot in self defense. If you shoot, the government will destroy you, your spouse, and you whole family. You will be so disgraced and destroyed that only suicide would relieve your mental pain.

      What gash on the back of his head?, there were two little scratches on the back of his head, I find it hard to see how Trayvon could get a goo grip on his head, he had no hair to grab and it was raining, plus if your head is being pounded on cement seem like you would be in more pain than he exibited and you would be dizzy and incoherent, I’ve bumped my head before and got dizzy. You caucasians say you’re not racist and love to throw the racist blame on us, but you are racist, you all can’t be this stupid, the only reason you‘re believing GZ’S bulls**t and lies is because TM was Black. GZ is a hot-head cop wannabe who has been in trouble with the law a least three times, and has been shown to be a liar, but yet you call TM who has never been arrested for anything, a thug, some have even called him a drug dealer a burglar,none of these things have any bearings, but in your warped little minds it’s true, just because you said it is.       @CAMRY95 I think you’re grouping everyone together based on a few real racists. Keep in mind GZ is not white. I do not take anyone’s side, I wait until the facts come out and base my decision on that. So the only “side” I take is the truth. Only God, Zimms, and Treyvon know (knew) what actually went down. I do not think it was in self-defense, but I certainly don’t believe he was “hunted down” as some people believe, which I think is ridiculous. It’s even more absurd to think this was based on skin color (by either GZ or TM). If you want to blame anyone blame the media who turns every situation involving people of different ethnicities into some big “racial” matter. Blame our society for being so PC that people can’t even offer a different point of view without being labeled a “racist.” The fact is, the majority of violence is within ones’ own ethnicity, so cases like these are actually on the rare side. But, due to the media these cases are seen as the “norm” and blown up to be something it’s not.

      I whole heartedly believe that all men were created by God, in the image of him and are equal. No man is superior to another man, and if anyone thinks they are due to height, intelligence, good looks, how much you can bench, how many girls you can get with, or the color of ones’ skin (which accounts for 1% difference in DNA I believe) then they are greatly mistaken.       I do not understand why certain “black leaders” and the new black panther party are given a pass on incendiary language and threats to kill a man whom I continue to believe is an innocent man. Does innocent until proven guilty still apply or does it depend on race?

    Reporters keep wanting to talk about Stand Your Ground, even when attorneys point out it has nothing to do with his defense. Whether or not you have a duty to retreat is irrelevant if someone pins you down, bashing your head on a sidewalk. Journalists are just getting stupider and stupider.

      The transcript of the phone conversation was made apart of the the motion to revoke bond, which made it apart of the public record, it was aslo apart of the probable cause statement issued agaisnt Zimmerman’s wife. After its in the public record there would be no reason not to release the entire audio.

      Unfortunately, I have seen people shot and have been myself. It is a shock and what I have heard uttered was everything from swearing, to pleading to God not to let me die, to men calling for their mother. Martin’s words are not surprising. Your statement is ignorant.

      You have been watching far too many movies. When shot, people do not fly backwards, blow through windows, or any myriad of overly dramatic special effects, in real life. The FBI has quite a few stories and statistics about perpetrators being shot multiple times in the chest and still killing the police officer, or escaping on foot. Zimmerman should have emptied his magazine, but the double pull of the weapon he was using is a safety feature that makes that more difficult. The only sure fire way to stop an attacker with a firearm is to sever the nervous system.

      Just a few weeks ago a cop in Philadelphia was attacked by a guy who was bothering someone else. He grabbed the cop’s nightstick and was beating him with it. The cop got his gun out and shot the guy five times, and he still tried to attack him. He wasn’t dead when they took him to the hospital.

      Hauschild: Ignorance is when you say something of which you have no knowledge. I rest my case.

      As to those commenting to empty the magazine. You can legally use only as much force as necessary to stop the aggressor. In Zimmerman’s case he did it absolutely right.

      Hand guns are not efficient killing tools. So, It is true a committed assailant can often take numerous hits in what seemingly would be beyond human ability. If two to center mass doesn’t do the trick, the third is to the ocular cavity.

      Again, who in their right mind would utter such nonsense – even when shocked or in pain??? Does being wounded via a firearm hurt any more than having a finger cut off, or losing a limb? How about being arrowed with a razor-sharp broadhead? Unbearable pain???

      Pavnet makes it seem as though being shot with a firearm is the ultimate and highest level of pain one might reach.

      Hauschild, once again you are interjecting something that is neither on point or factual. I said nothing of pain. In fact, pain is usually absent for a period of time after being shot. The pain level may be the worst one will ever have, or it may be no worse than a sharp stinging sensation. Pain is subjective to the person that has received the injury (i.e., your level of pain may be a 10 and mine may only be a 5 for the same type of injury). If you knew anything about trauma, you would know this.

      I stand by my original comment.

      As to defending Mr. Zimmerman, he was attacked and, in a life threatening moment, he chose to preserve his life over a kid’s who was already heading towards being a street thug. What are you going to say when he is acquitted? I would still rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

    I don’t think any of this stuff should be released to the press until after the trial. That goes for 911 calls too. I just don’t think any of this helps the process in any case, not just this one. All this stuff should be suppressed until there is a conviction or an acquittal.

    All sounds believable to me.. He doesn’t sound or appear like he is lying at all. Normally, someone who is lying seems nervous.. and Zimmerman does look that way at all! He clearly has bandages on the back of his head proof he was assaulted! God help Mr. Zimmerman! I feel sorry for Trayvon the first picture I saw of Trayvon he looked like a average kid.. but that picture was decieving.. pictures later showed an angry youth, sound tapes of Martin proved that.. afer all, this young man came from a broken home which does not help! Why has no one done a voice analysis.. get Zimmermn to scream help like he was.. a voice expert should be able to prove it is Zimmerman’s voice!

      He has already proven himself to be a liar with he and his wife’s attempt at deceiving the Judicial system in terms of how much money they had available to them — that’s not a good way to start a murder defense based soley on your credibility. I don‘t believe any of Zimmerman’s account of what happened because it’s so perfectly not his fault. Trayvon had no criminal record and the only thing he did wrong was be black and wear a hoody — give me a break. Trayvon was supposedly staring at him as he drove by? So he gets out of his car and follows him? Seriously? If I’m Trayvon and I see some guy that was staring at ME from his car while driving by, now out of his car and following me on foot, I would confront that lunatic also and I have a right to — Zimmerman had every opportunity to avoid the situation. He was a paranoid, trigger happy fool looking for some action and when he got it, he finished it by shooting and killing an innocent and unarmed teenager.

      1) You may see racism in any encounter between folks of different races, but there is NO evidence to suggest that Zimmerman has any racist leanings, and particularly not that he dislikes black folks. I don’t know where you get your opinion on this, but it is inconsistent with ALL the available facts that have been published. I refer you especially to the Reuters article of a few weeks ago that was the 1st in-depth look at Zimmerman and his past.
      2) The idea that Trayvon was a kid with a clean record is belied by the fact that he was suspended for having pot in his backpack at school; it was found when the school security officer searched his locker and pack for the materials he used to vandalize lockers (which was caught on the school’s CCTV camera so we know HE did it). His pack also held burglary tools and women’s jewelry (earrings, bracelets and wedding rings), all of which Trayvon said he “found,” when questioned. He was reportedly involved in a violent assault on a bus driver a couple of weeks prior to his death as well. Not the signs of a “good kid;“ a lot more consistent with the thuggish ”Gangsta” image he adopted for his facebook page. Oh, and his Facebook contacts say they think he sold the best dope around too. Zimmerman was carrying a gun on the advice of the cops, following an incident wherein he protected a neighbor lady from a stray pit bull using only a stick.

      countrygirl…………If someone drove by staring at me from their car — whatever. But if I then saw that person get out of his car and come running after me, yes, I would confront the guy — and I think most people would fight after flight didn’t work. And if to you that makes me or Trayvon a thug, so be it — who cares.

      Oldshooter……….. My opinion on his race leanings came from Zimmerman profiling Trayvon as a black, hoody, wearing, up to no good, punk — very simple. Now whether the profiling of Trayvon by zimmerman was done because he looked similar to some burglars is a separate issue — he was in fact racially profiled. The jewelry was never identified as being stolen. The bus driver “incident” is vague, unwitnessed, unproven and centered around a tweet. His graffiti was w.t.f on a locker. And he’s a teenager — news flash — they smoke pot, and I’ll tell you what — millions of kids are doing these same things. So to brand Trayvon as a “thuggish gangsta” over these childish non-violent acts is far-fetched. Most importantly, it has nothing to do with what happened that evening. Trayvon did nothing wrong except be black and be at the wrong place at the wrong time and unfortunately, that led to his tragic and untimely death by way of paranoid looney toon — and thats why lead investigators recommended that he be charged.

    Tracy Martin, the father said he saw his son Trayvon last at about 8 or 8:30 the night before he reported him missing the next day at 8 something a.m., but Trayvon got shot at 7 something….so pops is lying…the money for interviews must be paying off but his defense for Trayvon is hopeless lies. Free Zimmerman Time! We got others to worry about putting behind bars for real crimes, like Holder and Obama.

    Per a personal conversation with a retired state attorney general who knew what the state had from Zimmerman; he will be acquitted after the heat goes down next year. Zimmerman while talking to police dispatch was ask what the address was where he was. He was following Martin in his car and called in the address where Martin was entering. Then Martin turned and came back to Zimmerman who was out of his car at this time. Then as you saw in the video it happened that way. Too bad the state run news networks slanted the story to suit their loopy audience.

      We know now, at the time this all began, Martin was unarmed. It does not suggests Zimmerman knew if the person in question was armed. To accuse the Blaze of incendiary tactics, within this story, is unfair. The Blaze is reporting what it knows to be true. They may be guilty of confusing the issue with this sentence, however they are reporting the facts.

      I think you are misreading this. It was the news article that referred to Martin as an “unarmed teen,” not Zimmerman. The use of quotation marks around things actually said by Zimmerman is instructive here.

    George Zimmerman lost all credibility when he and his wife plotted to conceal from the court, his savings account of over one hundred thousand dollars, when bail was being set.

    His best bet is to plea down to manslaughter, do a few years, then start his life over.
    After all, Zimmerman (armed) followed Martin (unarmed), even after the 9-1-1 operator told him not to.

      Problem with your theory is that Zimmerman said nothing during the bail hearing, nor was he asked to.

      2nd problem is that there is no evidence that Zimmerman followed Martin after the dispatcher said “you don’t need to do that.”

      I don’t think what they said about the money has anything to do with the accuracy of his account of the events.

      He had no idea whether or not Martin was armed. In a case like that, a smart person will assume that they are.

      He was following Martin so he wouldn’t lose track of where he was when the police arrived. After the 911 call ended, he started back to his truck to meet the police.

      Could any of that be inaccurate? Sure, but that‘s the best evidence that’s available and I’ll go with that until something more credible contradicts it.

And that “ savings account” you are referring to was money people sent in for Zimmerman’s defense because they were sick of the media witch hunt and the Lefty media lynching which we were seeing for weeks. This entire affair is a define attempt to stir up riots and race baiting in crucial Florida.     I believe George Zimmerman was not only the victim the night of the shooting but that he is a victim now because of the lies and distortions of the truth by the MSM media and the racist blacks.

    The outcome of the Zimmerman trial, whether he is found guilty or innocent, will be used as a political tool to fuel more racial hatred in America. Well done Obama, Holder, Sharpton and the NBPP.

    I hope the zimmerman family gets justice. trayvon unfortunately got what he deserved. all that testosterone in the young guy he really should have not escalated the situation by being a punk. justice for zimmerman at this point. everyone see they fired the police chief too? sad so many take the fall for this self defense case.
