Inconvenient Photo Taken at Exxon Gas Station Just Outside White House

A picture is worth a thousand words and this one speaks volumes. On March 13, The Weekly Standard posted the following photo of an Exxon gas station’s price marquee. The station is within walking distance — approximately one mile — of the White House and the listed price for its supreme grade is frighteningly pushing $6.

Gas Prices at EXXON Station Exceed $5 Outside White House in Washington D.C.

Washington DC Gas Prices confirms the price for regular grade gasoline at $5.39 on March 13. The station is located at 2708 Virginia Ave NW and Rock Creek Pkwy. — approximately 1.2 miles from the White House.

Some argue that this particular gas station is known for charging far more than other gas stations in the area and beyond, and therefore is not indicative of typical gas prices. However, there is a station in the Los Angeles area that has exceed $6.00 for premium grade. Chevron at 811 Olympic Blvd is charging $5.99 — $6.19 as of March 14. A Mobil station at 201 S. Azusa Ave., in West Covina (also in the L.A. area), is charging $5.31 — $5.59.

The second-highest gas prices to date in DC are located at another Exxon station at 2150 M Street NW, where regular grade costs $4.69 and supreme grade costs $4.99 — in other words, $5.00.

(Related: Obama: Gas Is Expensive Because People Keep Talking About War With Iran)

Click here to read Blaze financial expert Matt McCall’s assessment of rising gas prices and why he believes Americans across the country could soon be paying $5.00-plus at the pump.

Nonetheless, the fact that there is a gas station — any station — charging $5.39 — $5.69 — is indicative of skyrocketing prices across the nation — especially in and around major metropolitan cities — and is a troubling scenario to say the least.

NO president has anything to do with the price of gas. Domestic oil production in the U.S. is at an 8 year high. Could it be the oil millionaires who contribute millions to the republicans PACS are raising the price, so that idiot will believe it is Obama’s fault. Or the fact that republicans still support giving billions in government subsidies to oil companies owned by their big PAC donors.

Jimmy Carter bails on the Shah of Iran (Carter knew that the Shah was such a terrible tyrant, and that Ayatollah Khomeini was “something of a saint”). The new Iranian regime isn’t quite what Jimmy thought it would be, so Jimmy bans imports of Iranian oil. The price of oil goes up. Gasoline comes from oil, so the price of gas goes up. “NO president has anything to do with the price of gas.” — and have you ever heard of something called “The Law of Supply and Demand”?

When Presidents open federal lands for drilling and gas production…when they speed permit processes…when they open off-shore for drilling…when they limit the regulations to only necessary ones, …then oil speculators don’t have a “hay day” with gas. This President accused the former President of not helping the country with gas prices when the price was half of what it is now. This President wants his control to be over all commerce in the country whether by regulation or strangulation. Anyone who can‘t see what’s happening is just stuck on stupid.

2–Oil production may be at an all-time-high—but that is because of the increases in oil derived from Private-Lands—–Public-land production is way down from previous highs…….

3–Government Subsidies of oil should be STOPPED along with ALL other subsidies—including so-called Green-energy………

Bush got prices to drop by removing the Presidential ban on drilling, but when the House tried to follow suit the Democrat majority turned off the light and mics and went on fall recess. So here we sit having the same discussion as 4 years ago. Kinda like the Fannie and Freddy hearings in 2004 where Democrats said nothing was wrong with the financing of the real estate market and here are with ours and other economies in shambles because the Democrats can’t do anything positive. Vote GOP in 2012 and we’ll start from there including getting rid of the establishment.

The 4 billion in tax breaks are the normal deductions that ANY COMPANY in America gets. The left wants people to think it is a special tax break but every company in America gets the SAME tax deductions.

The Oil Industry actually is the 10th highest income making industry. The left’s darling Apple makes much higher percent of profit than the oil industry.

Obama himself went on the war path after George W. Bush in 2008 for the high price of gas which was lower than gas is now. Obama does everything possible to make sure Oil is as high as possible.

Stopped Keystone. Won’t let them drill new site on FEDERAL land. The MORE oil we are getting now comes from PRIVATE land BARRY can’t stop. If it wasn’t for the PRIVATE land drilling we would be down a lot. PUBLIC land DRILLING is DOWN 30% right now.

Gas price at the time of Obama’s inauguration $1.78 national average. Three years in gas prices have more than doubled. My foolish liberal friend, that is directly related to Obama’s policies. I seem to fall into things like this post that shows just superfcial knowledge of the oil industry. so here is a quick lesson.
We here in the USA are sitting on enough oil and natural gas to last the USA 1000 years at the rate we are using it now. Plus Canada and the North slope. One field of crude is 40 specific gravity sweet, this means no sulfur to crack out at super heated refineries of 2000 plus degrees. This field runs from Albert Canada to Tampeko Mexico, from the Appalachians to the Rockies 5 miles deep.
We actually export oil, to Japan and china etc. because they have the super crackers that we here in the USA are not allowed to build, Why? because the Government makes hundreds of millions of dollars on these exports.
The Green Jobs program is very nice. Good and clean. Sure. The Volt is touted by the Gov. as the all for the future. $40,000.00 price tag, OK but the upkeep will kill you. New batteries for this thing will cost an arm and a leg. The cost of recharging means you plug it in. So where do you get the power from, nuke, oil, coal, hydro.
Now when we look at solar its quite nice, I have used it in the past, not very efficient, cloudy days are a killer. My pool got cold and I had to switch over to Gas.
Wind is good also, but too many inefficient mills are spinning or are shut down much of the time, just drive by and look. The mills they are using are about 10% efficient Why? so we can spend money over seas.
More space is needed for nukes and the clean up

@BERNBART – can you name one thing this President or his administration have done to bring oil prices down?

      Gulf drilling sharply curtailed.

      Off-shore drilling promised, then rescinded.

Loaned money to Peteobas to fund THEIR off-shore oil drilling. Said we wanted to be first to BUY from them.

Decreased number of drilling permits on federal lands.

Vilified oil companies, wants to raise extra ‘penalty’ taxes on them by denying them common business deductions that EVERY OTHER INDUSTRY enjoys.

Refuses to tap strategic oil reserves.

Refuses to allow drilling in ANWAR.

      Rejected Keystone XL pipeline.

None of the above lowered the cost of oil – period.

Fact: 100% of all the plastic on the planet comes from 10% of the oil. Fact: There is no such thing as an oil subsidy. There are tax incentives that all corporations take advantage of. By that logic there is a Target subsidy, a Bennigan’s subsidy, and a 7-11 subsidy. Fact: Corporations do not pay taxes, they are pass through entities. Were you to develop and sell an product to make a profit and did not account for the taxes you owe and build that into your price (thus, charging your customers), you would be Solyndra or any other failed businesses. Familiarize yourself with EBITDA. Gee, wonder what the T stands for?

Gas prices in 2007 (before the Dem. took control of congress) $1.87, now $4.80. We are mostly out of the middle east, so you can’t blame it on the “wars”. How about that the pres. has stopped drilling on federal owned land, dumped billions of tax dollars in his friends/donors green companies. “Yes Virginia” the “buck does stop with the Pres.”

The U.S oil production is at an all time high because president Bush granted the permits while in office and they’re coming online now dummy. Barry could announce drilling everywhere possible and announce new exploration, that alone would lower the price of oil but like I said you‘re an idiot so you won’t understand that. Our Marxist POS president needs high gas prices to further his ‘green’ BS agenda, and the trick for the Marxist POS is not to raise it to fast prior to the election, after the election and God forbid the Marxist heathen wins he won‘t care how high or how fast the price goes up because he’ll have four more years to end our republic and capitalism.

The president can do everything about the oil price, he can put sanctions on opac, he can impose tariffs on exporting oil to other countries, he can threaten to raise taxes so high the oil industry won’t make any money, if he wants to stop energy production in this country he has the power to make the oil companies pack up and leave this country. so for you to say obama has nothing to with the gas prices shows that you know nothing about our government.

If they ever get electric cars going and they don’t have the tax infastructure set up for taxing road use the loos of the fuel tax will cause many citiys and states to fail. So most of this money for solor equipment and electric cars has to be used to attract the bright minds to figure a way to tax these types of energy devices or they will lose control of thier goverment without have the controlas alread in place like they have for oil. Sir, you are either ignorant, stupid, a liar, or a combination. I work in the oilfields of West Texas. Drilling on government land is greatly reduced from what it was four years ago. Drilling in the gulf has been cut in half due to the moratorium Obama put on offshore drilling after the BP spill. Where drilling has greatly increased is on privately/leased lands. I know what I am talking about and can prove it. I hate to make you look really stupid, but go to the Texas Railroad Commission website and check out the drilling permits issued to private companies for private land. It is all right there in black and white. I am not one of those guys that just goes along to get alone. Wow! You’re a complete chuckle-head! So much of what you posted is completely wrong! I don’t know where to start!

First, OPEC controls the price of oil. You got at least one correct.

Second, Domestic oil production in the U.S. is at an 8 year high. But this is because of what Bush did, not Obama.

Third, oil companies get no government subsidies. They do get tax breaks, semantics for sure but, lower than tech companies, entertainment, and many others.

Fourth, the profits from each gallon of gas gained by the oil companies, pales in comparison to what the government takes in taxes from each of those gallons…

You are spewing the liberal line…..it is only half true…the part that “no president can control the price of gasoline fuel”……but you intentionally leave out the large and definite aspect that the “president” can certainly do many things to encourage lower domestic prices……you are co-mingling the notion that production is at an all time high….and then masking the fact that consumption is down in the USA but other countries for example China….are buying up our under consumed domestically produced gasoline at commensurate record rates as well. The President runs the executive branches of government which includes all the regulatory agencies like the EPA, Fish and Wildlife, and of course the never discussed federal excise tax on gasoline. There are many many things that an American president can do to nurture and promote lower domestic fuels prices. You don’t expect Big Oil to stop selling fuel to willing buyers overseas do you? Yes the market dictates gasoline per gallon prices….and although production is at a near record high….Obama’s recent “what do you want me to do about it” moment is patently weak and flaccid. There’s lots of things Obama could do…but chooses NOT to do….and so there is no more fitting place for 6 dollar gasoline than the gas stations right outside Obama’s house. Suspend the federal excise tax and see what that does…and that’s just for starters.

The Democrats “Blamed Bush” for this leading up to the 2008 elections, promising that they would lower gas prices. They hauled “Big Oil executives” to Capitol Hill to pillory them publicly. The Democrats “Led us to believe” they would fix the problems of high fuel prices. Could it be they misspoke? Could it be they just didn’t get it? Or, could it be they lied? Steven Chu is backpedaling furiously on his earlier statements that he wanted gas prices to hit $9.00 a gallon here. If the big oil companies are still funneling millions to the Republicans, could it be that Team Obama hasn’t sufficiently terrorized them yet? Make no mistake about this, economic liberty is everything, and when the government can control the price of everything, they control you. So what if the gas prices are nearing $6.00 a gallon in DC. The unemployment rate is a paltry 3% there, and they are living high off the hog on your tax dollars. This country is in deep trouble, and neither party seems to give a hoot about the citizens, only about the power they have over us. It’s time to trim the fat off the DC hog, and make them feel the pain.

They shouldn’t be allowed any deductions for their HIGHLY expensive R % D and the above. ‘someone’ has invested more money than you can dream of to find, pull and refine that oil. I’d hate to see the cost for the guys who drive those big trucks that take up twice as much space as My car does.

Something that I learned about politics is that anything can happen in eight months. In August, President Obama might approve the pipeline and steal the GOP thunder. Speculators drive down oil prices and gas prices could be under three bucks by November. Israel might attack Iraq and we could be in the middle of a world war driving up prices to $10 a gallon.

Oblamer cares about gas prices becausse it is costing him votes. He couldn’t care less about the poor and middle classes, because his entire term has been about helping out billionaires like Soros. The class war is over…. Oblamer loses.

First, define subsidy. Then, when you understand the meaning of the word, maybe you‘ll realize that oil companies that make billions in profit and are taxed out the wazoo by the Govt don’t get subsidies, they get tax breaks so they are incentivized to research and develop other products.
Companies that don’t have profits receive “subsidies”.

from the article: Obama ” is the top recipient of BP PAC and individual money over the past 20 years.”

That’s right. With a national political career of just a few years, Barack Obama was the TOP recipient of BP cash over the last 20 year period. Not even one evil republican who has been in office for all those 20 years could top him.

What about those creeping prices at Walmart? I notice each week prices increasing since 2009. It use to be I bought all my groceries at Walmart Super center but now the grocery stores sale prices beat them hands down. I know they price match but that can be a real time consumer and pain too. Does anybody have a receipt from March 2008 and compare it to March 2012? I betcha the Food Stamps department could tell you or WIC. Milk allone has doubled in price. I hope those cows are at least getting better grain. Probably not, because the trucks are consuming the $$$ trying to get to market!
