If you thought the computer-graphics animation in the 1999 blockbuster on the sinking of the unsinkable RMS Titanic was good, the director of that film, James Cameron, and National Geographic have released an even better CGI of the tragic event that lost 1,500 souls.
The animation shows Titanic hitting the iceberg; the flooding that followed; its floundering and the path it took as it sank; and how exactly it landed on the ocean floor. Watch how analysts think it all went down:
Here’s a play-by-play in images:

Titanic sideswipes the iceberg.

Ship is flooded.

Stern of the ship beings to go up.

Ship cracks in half under peak pressure.

Bow of the ship goes straight down "like a torpedo."

Stern follows breaking apart and spiraling as it falls.

Bow hits floor "breaking its back" and there is a hydraulic outburst from the downblast effect. The stern falls further away like at scene of an airplane crash.
This effort by NatGeo are one of many it has been rolling out to honor the 100th anniversary of the ship’s tragic sinking. Here are a few other features NatGeo has on the ship right now:
- Become a virtual passenger on the ship here.
- Go inside the Titanic with an artist’s cross sections of the ship here.
- Check out the stunningly haunting images that new technology has allowed experts to capture of the ship here.
The National Geographic channel premiers its special series on the RMS Titanic this Sunday.

Posted on April 7, 2012 at 6:03pmThe fourth funnel was a “dummy” – it was placed for esthetic purposes to give the image of a “safe” ship. The original plans for the ship only had three funnels. The fourth funnel provided air ventilation for the galleys as well as a chimney flue for the First Class smoking room. Smoke and/or steam would emit

Posted on April 7, 2012 at 1:45amThis is totally fascinating to me as I had a distant ancestor, I believe he would be considered a cousin so many times removed who perished; I haven’t finished plugging in all my relatives to my database yet to know exactly. He was a famous short story science fiction and mystery writer in his day. His name was Jacques Futrelle. His wife was saved.
“Returning from Europe aboard the RMS Titanic, Futrelle, a first-cabin passenger, refused to board a lifeboat insisting his wife board instead until the point of forcing her in. His wife remembered the last she saw of him, he was smoking a cigarette with John J. Astor. He perished in the Atlantic. Futrelle’s last work, “My Lady’s Garter”, was published posthumously later in 1912. His wife inscribed in the book, “To the heroes of the Titanic, I dedicate this my husband’s book” under a photo of her late husband. On 29 July 1912 his mother, Linnie Futrelle, died in her Georgia home; her death was attributed to grief over her son’s death.”

Posted on April 7, 2012 at 1:25amThat right there is what is happening to America right now. Romney will not save it as he is backed by Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse, Chase and all the rest that were pulled out of (crisis?) with the stimulous package (The Iceburg). We are sinking fast and everyone is looking to the MSM; MSNBC, CNN, Fox, AP, Rassmussen, The Networks, New York Times, etc…. We will not make it past the next four years, whether Obama is re-elected or Romney is elected. Neither are going to do what is necessary to stop the coming insurrection. Paul is not going to be able to stop the insurrection from happening. We are too far into it to stop it’s forward progress. I just want a man as POTUS that I can count on to stand up to the IMF and U.N. to say NO! We will not take part in the One World Economic Order. We will stand on our own and put us back to Constitutional principles, instead of giving in to the World Bank and become their slaves.
I do not think that Romney or Santorum would do the same thing. I can see either of them going on Fox and declaring it is the only hope of saving the country. Do not think that this could not happen. We are very close now.
