Incredible Okla. Tornado Video Catches Telephone Pole Hovering in Mid-Air

Local station KFOR-TV in Oklahoma captured some incredible footage of a tornado that ripped through Oklahoma City last night. While doing a live report, the crew found itself in the middle of the twister. At one point in its coverage, the cameraman films telephone poles being ripped out of the ground, and as the news van turns to flee, one such pole appears to hover in mid-air over the road, barely missing the vehicle:
The entire video is worth watching, but the telephone poles start flying around 1:30 into it:

They still haven’t found the 3 year old boy was sucked out of the bath tub.Very sad. We should pray and help. Lets not argue, speculate and joke. And for those of you thinking of moving to OK. Don’t move to Moore!!

Posted on May 25, 2011 at 11:58amActually, alot of Sheriffs have begun to prevent these loose cannons from driving into the danger of these storms on purpose. I don’t agree with that way of thinking, but I suppose it is akin to letting someone go into a burning house or transit a forest fire in their car. Yes, likely more of these people will be killed or injured. I live in tornado alley and have been in dozens of tornados and I don’t see the facination! These are dangerous, unpredictable storms and they will kill you if you don’t respect them.

I live in tornado alley and have been at home during a tornado.They are dangerous and all should take the watches and warnings very seriously. May God be with the survivors and with the ones that are grieving for the loss of loved ones. My thoughts and prayers are with all.

Posted on May 25, 2011 at 11:17amThe live coverage from Channel 4 in Oklahoma City, was the most incredible coverage I’ve ever seen. Their helicopter was in the air taping a tornado moving through south of Oklahoma City near Norman. You could see the tornado level, then clean the slab foundation of a home. Later on, the chopper went back and found the occupants of the house who had moved to their storm shelter. Incredible. Way to go Channel 4!

It was just the curve of the path of the electrical service, which “straightened out” at that moment, which broke the top of the pole off, instead of tearing the “T” part loose, as you saw happen when the ‘nado crossed NW Expressway area.

Electric wires? Most definitely. They drove right under it and it wasn’t spinning. That tells me the pole snapped and was hanging by its wires.
Otherwise, a wind strong enough to suspend a telephone pole in midair (in a tornado it would tumble in midair) would also flip the car at best or drop it several miles away at worst.
