In a time of crisis the bravest individual can be the community itself, acting at a second’s notice as a single, well-orchestrated entity on the move to save one of it’s own. Check out this daring rescue by villagers of a four-year-old boy from probable death during flash floods in India’s Madhya Pradesh state Saturday:
Chiku Banvasi went to have a bath on the banks of river Narmada with his uncle at about 10 a.m. Saturday. When flash floods suddenly consumed the river, Chiku was left behind. Relatives and villagers jumped into the vicious floods, swimming down river to miraculously rescue the young boy from the treacherous waters. The Telegraph reports that Chiku lost consciousness after swallowing water in the river, but received medical treatment and is now in stable condition at a local hospital.

Report Post »It is amazing that when articles cover India there are always an overwhelming number of negative comments, filled with hate and ignorance.
When Katrina hit New Orleans there were similar heroic acts but they were far outnumbered by thuggish brutal acts. I guess it is fine for the rest of the world but when it comes to India the amount of venom is incredible. I believe that the BLAZE is filled with bigots who just cannot stand the idea of a nation like India. Thank God India is going to surge past the USA with 60% of her population being 35 years and under and her 8% growth making her the second fastest nation in the world, India has the luxury to ignore the idiots of this nation.

Posted on July 18, 2011 at 4:36pmThe state of Madhya Pradesh is around 72 million people. The most populous is the state of Utter Pradesh which has a population close to 200 million. The reason for these statistics that even in an over populated state compassion is alive.

Posted on July 18, 2011 at 3:39pmWhy doesn’t anyone see this for what it is, people putting themselves in harm’s way and when harm comes – we all see the rescue as an heroic effort…what idiot would be his children at risk? any child at risk? Another testament to how incredibly ignorant, uncaring and stupid some people are. these people should be ashamed to have others see this as demonstration of how stupid and ignorant they are…and they think this heroic.

Posted on July 18, 2011 at 2:56pmI am surprised more of you aren’t decrying this kind of act, while very inspirational, it doesn’t fit within the philosophical mantra of the new Ayn Rand TP.
Report Post »JDComments
Posted on July 18, 2011 at 3:33pmAyn Rand attempted to create a moral philosophy to counter the Leftist argument that the Many are always more important than the One, which is the ultimate justification for Collectivism. Rand felt the Individual was the true unit of value, and that any attempt to browbeat or subsume anyone with the rationale “For the Public Good” was not just stupid, it was morally wrong.
Having said that however, an Individual, using reason, can decide for himself what is in his best interests. However, that doesn’t mean the selfish or uncharitable course has to be taken, just that the justification for the action cannot be the absolute greater value of the many demanding it.
I think over time Rand has been co-opted or misinterpreted [intentionally by the Left] to the detriment of Rational Objectivism.

Posted on July 18, 2011 at 10:37pmYou did see the government pointing guns at those people and forcing them into the water to save the child, right? Perhaps they were just out of range of the camera, but they must have been there! People need to be told where, when and who to save! We can’t have people make such decisions on their own, as individuals! People, being inherently selfish would let the boy drown! But wait, he didn’t drown?
See the reason individualism works is because we, on our own, without an all-caring government, expand our own sense of self-preservation to include our family, friends, community and country. There is nothing wrong with this, each sphere is centered on an individual and is overlapped by the spheres of those around them, creating a very powerful, redundant shield. The overlapping spheres provide stability even amidst the occasional phsyco and calamity.
The shield is weakened/destroyed, only when a big government tells people that it will take over caring for the poor, and does so by forced charity through the tax code. Then you get cities like California and Chicago, where Liberals demonstrate forced charity in living color… the results speak for themselves: if you can find any improvement in the lives of the poor or a reduction in their ranks, let me know.
But, it is a good thing that you simply misunderstand individualism because it means perhaps someday a lightbulb might go off inside that dark hole in your head and you will find yourself converted by common se

Posted on July 18, 2011 at 11:20amMy first question: Why and who was videotaping in the first place? It seems a little strange to me because bathing at the river doesn’t seem to be a significant event to record for posterity. And why was the little kid down there all by himself? None of this makes any sense. Makes me wonder.

Posted on July 18, 2011 at 2:42amThere was one thing that sort of bothered me about that video….There were plenty of people on the shore, very close, while the boy was standing there, surrounded by those rushing waters. Now, if the boy slips, he is not going to float upstream– he is going to get swept downstream.
One might think, if one were into problem solving, that some of those people should have positioned themselves a little ways downstream, in the event the boy slipped. But, many were just milling around up on the bank, and some appeared to be police (?) or some sort of government (?)
I am glad the boy was saved, but what the heck was a kid that age doing out there, and why couldn’t the adults think ahead just a little bit ?

Posted on July 18, 2011 at 8:49amYou ask where the police or some sort of government are? They are on the shore watching because it’s too dangerous to save the lad. Oh, wait, that’s what happens in the USA. If this were the US, those who did jump in to save him would be fined because what they did was so unsafe.
Report Post »Twaddlefree
Posted on July 18, 2011 at 11:28amLooseyloo’s post was not asking about government or police control or protection. The issue is why ADULTS would allow a small child to stand alone in a raging river, which it obviously was raging. In America, the parents would have been arrested for child neglect. In our country, you can murder a two year old and claim child abuse to walk free. You can abort your babies until the moment they are born. But, if you make a mistake, as all parents do, and cause your child injury, especially one that is unborn in a situation where you aren’t getting an abortion, you’re arrested.
What is the most interesteing, here, is that someone in this most basic of all civilizations is FILMING all of this? Who and why?

The person that you should make hate comments about are the ones that breed out of control, then the kids go hungry, suffer and die of starvation. This year alone in Africa they are looking at about 8 to 12 million to die of hunger, yet they keep breeding THAT’S CRUELTY !

Reason, lack of funds.
Do you get it ! We don’t have the money !
You Lilly White people that want to feed the world are missing that part of economics, or just aloof, blinded by the political correct indoctrination, do you liberals just want us to keep printing money? So America can end up like Greece, who will pay for all this goody goody stuff, come on answer me, say it !!! say it !!!
Without birth control the famines will continue, children will die, and a very few of the people that run those donations will get rich. That’s the bottom line, money.

It is definitely cruel, but, even worse, it’s criminal. Over population causes much suffering.
China and India are going to be in utter chaos if we have the food shortages that a lot of experts are expecting. Water resources are dwindling, too. Already both countries are losing ground water at rapid rates and could be candidates for water wars in the near future.
So is the US, but our population isn’t out of control………YET.
