Indian Security Officials Work to Protect Obama From Falling Coconuts

If you thought paying a whopping $200 million per dayIndian Security Officials Work to Protect Obama From Falling Coconuts for the president and his entourage to visit India was crazy, wait until you hear the latest news out of Mumbai.

According to the BBC, security officials in the capital city have ordered that all coconuts be removed from trees which could potential fall on the American president’s head. (h/t Weasel Zippers)

Officials in the Indian city of Mumbai (Bombay) have taken extraordinary measures to protect US President Barack Obama ahead of his visit. In their effort to provide maximum security in the run-up to his visit on Friday, they have removed coconuts which may fall on his head from trees.

All coconuts around the city’s Gandhi museum have now been cut down, an official told the BBC.

Every year in India people are injured or even killed by falling coconuts.

Mani Bhavan, where Mahatma Gandhi stayed during his freedom struggle against the British, is among five places the US president is visiting apart from a school, college and hotels attacked by Islamic militants in 2008.

“We told the authorities to remove the dry coconuts from trees near the building. Why take a chance?” Mani Bhavan’s executive secretary, Meghshyam Ajgaonkar, told the BBC.

Mahatma Gandhi has been cited by the president as an inspiration to him – he has [sic] a portrait of the independence leader in his senate office.

President Obama once famously said that he would like to have had dinner with Mr. Gandhi.

No stone has been left unturned by the authorities to guarantee Mr Obama’s safety.

Okay, I am having a Vince Flynn/24 moment. As I choked on my dinner a thought came to mind (keep in mind this is a 24 type moment), what if there were an attack on D.C. and that’s why the prez is leaving town with 3000 of his closest friends. There certainly have been pre-emptive tries recently and no good crisis goes to waste. We have been waiting for the other shoe to fall and the timing would certainly be appropriate. Told you it was a 24 moment – just saying.

As long as you have the proper permit and you do not conceal it while carrying it. Of course, conceal carry of a coconut might also get you in trouble with the fashion police, better stick to lower caliber produce such as rice or tomatoes.

Why not just let the President wear a crash helmet or a steel pot over his head, and that will save a fair amount of labor and expenses on the part of India. Or even better yet, why spend 200 million each day when he could just stay here in America and do some real work instead of a second or twentieth vacation in just two years.

How long until in america we will have security built around the expected “coconut terrorist attack” scenario someone will claim is going to happen. Also the fact the coconuts are found to be able to kill someone in a fall, does this mean the administrations next move will be to outlaw coconuts? and coconut trees? I mean, if they could kill or hurt someone then for ‘public safety and health’ they just might have to?

The sarcasm above is very deliberately intended.

How about we transplant coconut trees about the whitehouse.

SNOW LEOPARD 3200 muses, “coconut terrorist attack”

Well, coconuts are tan on the outside and white on the inside. Have to be conservative domestic terrorists. Homeland Security told us so.

News is reporting the Obama family will be staying at the luxurious “Hotel de Cocoanut” which, as you know if older, is owned and operated by the infamous Marx brothers. Bound to be an entertaining stay for our presidential family.

I crunched some numbers. At 200-million dollars per day to have Barack and Michelle sip pina colada drinks at the Hotel de Cocoanut, based on my coconut calculations, we could send Barack and Michelle to the planet Mars for half the cost and, of course, at twice the benefit for America.

I am reminded of a song written for “Cocoanuts” by Irving Berlin back in 1913, “Monkey-Doodle-Doo”

How about this for a little perspective on the amount of money he will spend. In 9 days, that adds up to $1.8 billion. Say the medain average income in America is around $50k/yr. right now. For that amount of money, you could employ 36,000 people at median salary for a full year!

At the very least, Obama should send every unemployed person in America a post card from his vacation, just to show he really does care.
