‘Indoctrination’: Did These Elementary School Students Just Sing ‘Boycott Big Business’ in Earth Day Rap?

Aw, it’s enough to make the erstwhile Green Jobs czar Van Jones proud.

From Fox Nation comes this video of young students singing an earth day song at the Riverwood Elementary School in Tennessee. The song contains lyrics like “Recycle, bicycle, don’t drive by yourself / don’t buy those plastic products on the supermarket shelf“ and ”Boycott, petition, let the big business know / that if we mess it up here, there’s no else we can go.”

It’s unclear when this video is from, but many blogs have posted it today.

The Fox Nation headline asks if this is indoctrination. You be the judge:

PHN, I really don’t understand why you would post such about the RCC. Because the vatican has been quoted many times that it doesn’t believe in the Word of God. You say how? Without writing a paperback to prove why I’m stating that, I’ll just say they have been quoted saying they believe in evolution, not creation.

Even the children’s show are teaching “green” gobbledygoock. My 6 year old son told me today I was wasting electricity by vacuuming our minivan after our trip to the beach. I told him next time he can pick out the grains of sand piece by piece and see if he changes his mind.

Okay, forgive me, but I’m as conservative as they come, but I just can’t take it anymore! I am sick to death of everyone badmouthing teachers. I am an out of work high school English teacher and my wife is an extremely hardworking, conservative elementary school teacher. We hate the liberal unions and big government as much as the next person. We don’t approve of this Marxist type of indoctrination, but we also don’t approve of the teacher-bashing going on here. Whatever happened to PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY? Is it entirely my job to ensure that your child does well in school? If I provide a classroom where your child can learn and your child fails, whose fault is it? Is it completely mine? Does your child bear no blame? Do you bear no blame? Must we always fall back to blaming the teachers?

At some point, parents must take personal responsibility for raising their own progeny. It is not my duty to go into your home and oversee your child’s homework performance, or is it? Do you expect me to give up my entire life for the sake of each and every child who attends my class? Why don’t I get a life outside of grading 210 student essays (that’s 30 students in seven classes per day), as well as grading daily work, writing lesson plans and developing lessons that will educate and hold the ever shrinking attention span of my students? I have heard about all I can stand of this teacher-bashing. Give me a break!

Get involved in your students’ lives; help them with their homework, or at least look at what they are being asked to do; volunteer to help in the classroom sometime, because it’s not only your right to do so but your responsibility as a responsible parent and taxpaying citizen; keep tabs on your kids, and help them stay out of gangs; don’t let your children spend all evening watching TV and playing video games – get them involved in a team sport; finally, LEARN TO LIVE SELFLESSLY! Do everything you can to help your child be successful – that is the responsibility of every parent!

      @ Armymedic

Your points are well made and to answer your questions…IT IS TOTALLY THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PARENTS FOR THE EDUCATION OF ONE’S CHILDREN!

As for myself, my two boys go to Catholic grade school. One of my boys has ADD and my wife or I tutor him for approx. 1 hr per night with homework, and he is in 2nd grade. Out other boy, in kindergarten, is intellectually gifted and already knows how to read and add well – he takes much less effort on our part. At any rate, my wife and I know that their education is OUR responsibility and the teachers are there to assist.

I believe much of the venom (some undeserved) is targeted against the Teacher’s Unions, and the teachers who are more concerned about pay and hours. I believe Blazers’ concerns stem from the question, “Where does all the county taxes, state aid, and federal aid go?????” Taxpayers pour more and more money into education and we get C-RAP like this!!! And with all of this money going into education, teachers protest for more money for their pocketbooks. Teachers are paid well considering they get 3 months off, all holidays paid, and additional days off; plus, their hours are generally 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. I know that there is some grading done at home, but geeez, they are paid well and are not burining the midnight oil too often.

I’m sure you and your wife, especially since you are conservative and have good values, are very fine teachers. Teaching is a true profession, but there are an awful lot who do not treat as it as a profession and should seek another career.

I believe much of us just want to know WHERE IS ALL OF THE TAX MONEY GOING, before we flush more money at teachers!

Look up Rita White Principal at this school and you will find a link with a story that says a lot about why you might see such a display at this school.

Referring to Rita White – Her campaigning in Washington D.C., talking to congressional leaders about education reform, her advocacy for the children and her strategy to develop successful students, put her on the map.

“We are not just teaching reading and math,” says Principal White. “We’re not teaching science and social studies. We are teaching them how to be good citizens and interact with each other.”

White follows a philosophy called “responsive classroom”. It includes team building for teachers and social skills embedded in the curriculum for the students.

Homeschooling is one way to intellectual independence. Many programs use the same textbooks as regular schools. Most of these have liberal bias, but you (or someone you trust) are there to moderate. This can be very enriching because the child is exposed to bias, AND THEN shown that there are other points of view. This can inspire young people to look into things for themselves, and that gives them a sense of power. In a typical school, the textbook represents a corps of knowledge to be “learned.” In homeschooling, it can be just a point of departure.

I have yet to see anyone post anywhere a SIMPLE solution to these problems..using the same words against them.. be it GLOBAL WARMING or EARTH DAY.. Kids have NO idea what they are being taught about..SHOW THEM.. an almost EMPTY Easter Basket with a note from the EASTER BUNNY stating that knowing how they feel about such things excluded all plastic (remember that that would include any candy that was packaged in plastic and even stuffed Easter Bunnies which have PLASTIC eyes/whiskers.. Listen.. most kids DO NOT connect a song with anything in their lives.. to them it’s a song to the PROGRESSIVES.. HOWEVER.. it’s BRAIN WASHING.. so it’s up to each of us to TEACH them what the words they are sing really MEAN.. and they are NEVER to young to learn.. So IF your kids were taught that song SHOW them what it means..The lesson YOU give them will DROWN OUT anything they try to teach them from that point on.. REMEMBER even BARBIE is made by BIG BUSINESS and OUT OF PLASTIC..

Why do we allow these un American liberals to have jobs that put them in contact with children. Liberalism is a mental disorder and they should not be near children. If we don’t face the core problem, we can never fix it. The core problem = liberals.

Yes, I just loathe rap. These left wing teachers are indoctrinating their students into the pagan, Cult of Liberalism. If one of those kids were mine, I would be steaming mad at the teacher.

      @CATB

“Waiting for Superman” has some valuable information in it. However, I got the feeling that the makers’ of the movie are attempting to persuade the audience that the fifty different state systems in place need to be replaced by one centrally planned system. After all, they do talk extensively about how the standards in one state are not necessarily the same as in other states. It seemed to me that the remedy for disparate standards, according to the filmmakers, would be one standard.

Maybe I was missing something…or maybe not.

It’s rap because that requires no musical ability, no rhyming, no meter, and just a smattering of rhythmic beat.

Stupid; is a disease. It can’t be fixed. And if it can be fixed; it takes effort. The ‘cure’ is something idiots can’t stomach. It causes a revulsion, a self cleansing that is ‘introspective’ and ‘intellectually critical’. We are talking about almost no chance for recovery.

I see in Barrack Obama all the same great thinking that allowed Adolf Hitler to gain power over Germany. Obama will, if allowed to, bring destruction upon the United States of America as Adolf Hitler brought upon Germany.

Hay Ya’all; It was a long way to the bottom of this page. A lot has been said. I lived in Tennessee for 40 years. Not much seems to have changed since I left. I think I saw one little white boy in the choir. The first thing I wondered was; How much time was spent writing and having these kids memorize the words, and I wonder how many of them could recite the pledge of allegiance. Just wondering.
