Indonesian Muslims Continue to Forbid Christians From Building Church on Street with Islamic Name

In what is being called a national test of religious tolerance, Muslims in Indonesia’s West Java province are continuing to block Christian worshipers from building a church, namely because the future edifice would stand on a street with an Islamic name.
As The Blaze reported last month, local mayor Diani Budiarto is refusing to comply with a supreme court ruling to allow the congregation to build its church, choosing to defer to the wishes of the Muslim majority.
The national ombudsman has reportedly given the mayor two weeks to implement the supreme court’s decision and allow the church to be built, a move that has not stopped protestors from decrying the Christian worshipers’ plans.
“Why does a church need to build in a street with an Islamic name? Why do they need to build a church in an Islamic neighborhood?” one protester asked.
However, in a country where the dominant religion is Islam such as Indonesia, there are bound to be more neighborhoods and streets are bound to bear Islamic names than not.
Meanwhile, the province’s Christians still must resort to hold services in the open air, protected by police.
Step Vaessen with Al Jazeera delivers the report from West Java:

While it may be true that Indonesia doesn‘t yet abide by complete Sharia law the fact of the matter is like the churches in Egypt where the goverment doesn’t restrict churches (Yet) churches are attacked and set afire. It’s congregation falls prey to false accusations and physical attacks. As in Iran or Saudi Arabia where the Christian Church…. O thats right Christian Churches are non existent.
So while you may defend The goverment who doesn’t deny the Church access to the physical site to build their house of worship. The ideology both politically will devour the goverment as it’s prophet stated goal and destroy the Church as soon as construction begins.

@Steve, how much time have you spent in Indonesia? I’m curious what makes you such an authority. Indonesia has a population nearly the same size as the USA (240 million) spread across about 14,000 islands and 30+ states, each of which has their own various laws and culture. I’ve never been to Indonesia, but I know enough to not try and armchair quarterback their decisions, especially ones that have no effect on me whatsoever.
What I do know though, as Pencilman points out, is that the same exact thing happens here in the USA. Every heard of zoning laws? Heck, what about the Mormons that were driven west, state after state after state? It is extremely common for a community or church to protest and restrict the construction of another. Evangelicals prevent Mormon temples from being built. Catholics prevent Baptist curches from being built. Atheists and liberals prevent any churches from being built. Mormons restrict alcohol in Utah. Radical Christians protest any mosque being built. And frankly there is nothing wrong with any of this per se. We were not originally meant to have religious and cultural homogeneity from sea to sea. States and cities were meant to be unique and independent. If the community in New York doesn’t want a mosque at ground zero, I have no problem with this, that’s their right. Likewise, I couldn’t care less about some Muslims in a particular neighborhood on a particular island of Indonesia.

Posted on September 4, 2011 at 3:49pm@4truth2all, what does that have to do with the price of tea in China? The point, again, is that 1) We do the same thing here in the USA, so it’s rather hypocritical to criticise, and 2) We’re not Indonesian, it’s not our business, and that makes us even more hypocritical.
BTW: I served as a Christian missionary for over 2 years overseas. It wasn’t a Muslim country, but Christians were in an extreme minority. I often saw missionaries from other Christian faiths make absolute arses out of themselves by doing things like driving around in a neighborhood and screaming from a loudspeaker mounted on a vehicle, telling people they‘re going to hell if they don’t repent, find Christ, yada, yada. These moonbats acheived little more than irritating the heck out of the locals and generating a lot of deep anti-Christian sentiment.
After my missionary service I’ve lived extensively in the Middle East and come across Christian missionaries there as well. And the vast majority of the time I’ve seen these people lie and enter countries under very false pretenses so they could then blatantly disobey local laws and customs. By definition how can they be doing anything else? When it’s illegal to prosthelytize and they do it anyway, what do you expect? These self-righteous busy bodies do far more harm than good. Jefferson would perhaps have been just as eager to send a squadron to put down any Christian piracy that was restraining commerce. But one cannot get around what Jefferson heard when he went with John Adams to wait upon Tripoli’s ambassador to London in March 1785. When they inquired by what right the Barbary states preyed upon American shipping, enslaving both crews and passengers, America’s two foremost envoys were informed that
“it was written in the Koran, that all Nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon whoever they could find and to make Slaves of all they could take as prisoners, and that every Mussulman who should be slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise.”

Omar Ahmad, the cofounder and longtime Board chairman of the influential Hamas-linked Muslim Brotherhood front group known as the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), has said that “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth.”
“If only Muslims were clever politically, they could take over the United States and replace its constitutional government with a caliphate.” — prominent American Muslim leader Siraj Wahhaj, 2002
The Muslim Brotherhood differs only in means, not in goal, from al-Qaeda. Its core beliefs center just as much around the establishment of a global caliphate. It works within existing Muslim nations so as to establish Islamic states, but ultimately hopes that those new Islamic states will unite into one large Islamic caliphate.

Krekar: “It doesn’t matter. Things are born, and then they grow bigger. The essential thing is Islamic rule. That was why the West destroyed the Taliban’s rule in Afghanistan. They feared the Islamic state.”
Interviewer: “Who should rule the new Caliphate?”
Krekar: “It doesn’t have to be a cleric. A good human being is enough.”
Interviewer: “Is bin Laden such a person?”
Krekar: “Osama bin Laden and Ayman Al-Zawahiri are among several good people. Weren’t Jewish leaders also terrorists before they had their own state?”

Posted on September 6, 2011 at 5:07amMay 10, 2006 update: James Brandon provides a fine overview in the Christian Science Monitor today of Hizb ut-Tahrir’s drive to re-establish the caliphate. Some excerpts:
Hizb ut-Tahrir says that Muslims should abolish national boundaries within the Islamic world and return to a single Islamic state, known as “the Caliphate,” that would stretch from Indonesia to Morocco and contain more than 1.5 billion people. It’s a simple and seductive idea that analysts believe may someday allow the group to rival existing Islamic movements, topple the rulers of Middle Eastern nations, and undermine those seeking to reconcile democracy and Islam and build bridges between East and West.
“A few years ago people laughed at them,” says Zeyno Baran, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute and the leading expert on Hizb ut-Tahrir. “But now that [Osama] bin Laden, [Abu Musab al-] Zarqawi, and other Islamic groups are saying they want to recreate the Caliphate, people are taking them seriously.”

Posted on September 6, 2011 at 5:08amEven more moderate Muslim groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt pay lip-service to the ideal of reestablishing the Caliphate, leaving less ideological space for Muslims who want to move toward Western models of democracy. “The Caliphate is a rallying point between the radicals and the more moderate Islamists,” says Stephen Ulph, a senior fellow at the Jamestown Foundation. “The idea of a government based on the Caliphate has a historical pedigree and Islamic legitimacy that Western systems of government by their very nature do not have.”
But unlike Al Qaeda, Hizb ut-Tahrir believes it can recreate the Caliphate peacefully. Its activists aim to persuade Muslim political and military leaders that reestablishing the Caliphate is their Islamic duty. Once these leaders invite Hizb ut-Tahrir to take power – effectively staging a military coup – the party would then repeat the process in other countries before linking them up to form a revived Caliphate. …

Posted on September 6, 2011 at 5:09amHizb ut-Tahrir promises that a revived Caliphate will end corruption and bring prosperity – though the group doesn’t say how. It will let Muslims challenge, and ultimately conquer, the West, its followers say. “The Muslim world has resources like oil but it lacks the leadership that will rule us by Islamic law and make this jihad that the whole world is afraid of,” says [Abdullah] Shakr, a Jordanian member of the group, who says the success of the Caliphate will also encourage more converts to Islam – eventually making the whole world Islamic. …
“Islam obliges Muslims to possess power so that they can intimidate – I would not say terrorize – the enemies of Islam,” says Abu Mohammed, a Hizb ut-Tahrir activist. “In the beginning, the Caliphate would strengthen itself internally and it wouldn’t initiate jihad.”

Posted on September 6, 2011 at 5:10am“But after that we would carry Islam as an intellectual call to all the world,” says Abu Mohammed, a pseudonym. “And we will make people bordering the Caliphate believe in Islam. Or if they refuse then we’ll ask them to be ruled by Islam.” And after that? Abu Mohammed pauses and fiddles with his Pepsi before replying. “And if after all discussions and negotiations they still refuse, then the last resort will be a jihad to spread the spirit of Islam and the rule of Islam,” he says, smiling. “This is done in the interests of all people to get them out of darkness and into light.”

Why is the god of the old testament so warlike and so vengeful and then turned into this loving and kind and turn the other cheek god in the new testament. It’s seems like schizophrenic god to me.
The bible is a book of fiction. Allegorical stories taken literally. Take the story of King Solomon, archaeologists with all their modern equipment and gadgets to this day still cannot find his temple. You know why they cannot find it? Because it’s a fictitious story. The temple simply is not there. Now, I know a lot of you want the sky fairy to invite you up to the big house so you blindly support Israel and can’t wait for Armageddon to begin, but a lot of us don‘t want to cremated in a nuclear war that’s been started over religious fiction. The only thing holy in Israel are the stories. Religion has been the biggest mind control creation ever created so you don’t need to tell me about cults. I‘d rather have a mind that’s open to wonder than one that’s is closed by blind faith. Religion is arbitrary…religious beliefs are arbitrary. So spare me the bible quotes. WOW! I don’t even know where to start with this immature and completely ludicrous post. I mean the entire post is left wing talking points, atheist propaganda and Islamic useful idiot standards. And of course you start advertising for Ron Paul. Besides the fact that Paul said “”Those who hate us and would like to kill us, they are motivated by our invasion of their land”
(Based on factual historical evidence is incorrect.)
Or this little tidbit ““I don’t see Islam as our enemy,” Paul said. “I see that motivation is occupation and those who hate us and would like to kill us, they are motivated by our invasion of their land, the support of their dictators that they hate.”
(I wonder how Paul would react to Islam killing, enslaving and torturing our citizens in the 1780′s. All in the name of Mohammad.)
And my favorite Paul cited a University of Chicago professor, Robert Pape, whose research argues that most of the suicide terrorism in the past 30 years was caused by military occupation. Pape’s research, funded by the Defense Department, shows that suicide bombings in Afghanistan went up one third after the Obama administration surged 30,000 troops into the country.
Not only is Pape wrong; he’s on the dole of Hamas-linked CAIR.
Ron Paul is a good man but truly ignorant on Islam and it’s designs not just on the United States (As they further multiply and immigrate illegally here) but it’s entire political ideology of a world wide ca
