International Olympic Committee Rules Out Minute of Silence for 1972 Munich Killings…Again

International Olympic Committee Says No Minute of Silence for Anniversary of Munich Killings| Bob Costas Responds

(Photo: AP)

(The Blaze/AP) — Jacques Rogge, the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has rejected the latest calls for a minute of silence to be observed at the opening of the London Olympics for the 11 Israeli team members killed by Palestinian gunmen at the 1972 Munich Games.

The IOC has come under pressure from politicians in the United States, Israel, and Germany to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Munich massacre at next Friday’s opening ceremony, even receiving a call from President Obama, according to reports.

Rogge maintains that the IOC will pay homage to the slain Israeli athletes and coaches at a reception in London and will attend a ceremony in Germany on Sept. 5., but there will be no public commemoration at the Opening Ceremony.

“We feel that the Opening Ceremony is an atmosphere that is not fit to remember such a tragic incident,” he explained.

Yahoo has a “look back” at the horrifying events:

Rogge’s comments have not gone over well with, among others, Bob Costas of NBC, whose network has paid billions for the broadcast rights for the Olympics.

“I intend to note that the IOC denied the request,” Costas told the Hollywood Reporter.

“Many people find that denial more than puzzling but insensitive. Here’s a minute of silence right now,” he continued.

Yahoo Sports relates:

Costas appears to be joining the efforts of Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon and Ankie Spitzer, whose husband was among the Munich victims. Ayalon said the IOC refusal of his request to commemorate the victims was “unacceptable.” Spitzer, meanwhile, has been petitioning to have a moment of silence during the Opening Ceremony, to no avail.

“The IOC’s refusal is pure discrimination,” she said.

Spitzer added, according to the New York Post, that the IOC was concerned “the Arab delegations will get up and leave.”

She responded: “It’s OK; if they don’t understand what the Olympics are all about, let them leave.”

Forget discrimination for a sec…this goes deeper than that. This shows a lack of understanding for their own event. The Olympics are supposed to be a symbol of peace among nations, isn’t it? It’s supposed to be sort of a replacement for war. Instead of killing each other, you compete in sporting events. To ignore the violence and murder that took place at this SYMBOL OF PEACE, disrespects much more than the Jewish people…it disrespects the event and the world as a whole. Why? I think I know…they’re afraid to upset those who would do such things…those whose “holy book” commands them to kill those who don’t believe in their “god”. That’s the truth. Stop letting these thugs, these animals bully us all. Stop letting them bully their women and children.

So this is what the Olympics has come to? If you console the Jews the Muslims will blow something up. Seems like the Olympics has run it’s course. Look at the past sites in places such as Bejing & Sarajevo. The venues are ruins. With the efforts now to keep the games safe, why would any country want to host the games? How could you ever turn a profit? There’s enough international competitions out there to where the Olympics and IOC are no longer needed. IMO

Using American built weapons isn‘t the same as Americans fighting Israel’s wars. Israel buys from many countries including the US and produces some weapons of their own. True there is a lot of US aid going to Israel but in my opinion that‘s primarily a means to get Israel dependent on the US government’s support (with scoring political being a secondary goal). I have no problem with the US lending Israel money if she desperately needs it but I don’t like the idea of a US President having that much influence over a foreign nation, especially Israel.

“Had this been any other nation” – what happened 40 years ago would have been forgotten, but since it was Israel we have to hear about it almost daily.

Great example, ask anyone what they know about WW2, and you will get the same answer “6 million Jews” “Jesse Owens” and the men that won the war “Tuskegee Airmen”

You will never hear about the 10+ million that died of starvation in the Ukraine, thx to Stalin taking all their wheat and this was before Hitler even became unser Fuhrer. After 1930 that number got much higher, too 30+ million
You will never hear what country in the 1936 Olympic’s got the most gold or total medals, not PC to say, I won’t write it if I did my comment gets removed.
And about the Tuskegee Airmen, WOW ! its like a day doesn’t go by without that story not getting shoved down our throat, its like they won the war by themselves.
Take a look at this report from “ABC News” “biggest uprising within the US military” its about a mutiny by 600 black’s on a few white officers, I’ll bet any liberal $100. Reichsmark that this report has never been talked about in any school.
Here is the link to that never talked about report.

You forget something major, those people Stalin allowed to starve, most were Jews. The difference lies in the fact that one was rounding up and marching into a death chamber while the other was mostly shipping to a desolate area. Both evil. But you also forget that it is the MSM that supports the Stalin-esque style so of course they cover it up. There was also very little in the way of media in the Ukraine or USSR where as large chunks of American GI’s had cameras with them during the war.

Deceive yourself all you want, I will not. I am under no illusion that the Jews in or out of Israel are in any way perfect. I also realize that “Palestine” is an invented people, they are the Biblical Philistines, they are Arabs just like In Jordan or Kuwait. I also realize that there are more “Palestine” Arabs now than there were in ‘48 or ’67, that the only place they are free to vote or even own property (in the Middle/Near East) is in Israel. None of this is the case in Jordan, Syria or Egypt, where they are treated as 3rd class citizens and refugees.

No, as for me and mine, we will follow the Lord and he as said those that bless Israel will be blessed and those that curse Israel will be cursed. I don’t think he lies on that part.

You could do it when Jacque steps up to the mike. Feel free to preface it with an announcement that the IOC couldn’t see fit to do it at the venue. That would put a twist in the IOC’s knickers. What you dont get is that is has happened, or at least they tried to get it happen several times over at virtually every games. It’s those evil stateists cops and intelligence agencies that have continually kept the games mostly safe. Most plots are broken up long before they get to the jumping off point. Situations like Munich are the very reason why the rafters of Cowboy Stadium were full of snipers during the Superbowl. Yet, those that “Hate the State” (Libertarians/anarchists) decried those actions. You can’t have it both ways, it‘s either protect the event and catch flak for it or don’t and another Munich and get blamed for being inept.

I am reading The Communist: Frank Marshall Davis: The Untold Story of Barack Obama’s Mentor by Paul Kengor and all I can say is pray for our country… This info was in the book: Iran‘s Supreme Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Mahmoud Abbas are alumni’s of People’s Friendship University better know as the Patrice Lumumba Friendship University in Russia. Another alumni includes Mohamed Boudia, a former top figure in the PFLP, one of the core branches of the PLO. Among Boudia’s most dastardly acts-which involved Mahmoud Abbas-was the murder of the Jewish Olympians in the 72 Munich massacre. Communist and radical Islamists have had a cozy relationship and common goal for a very long time: Destroy the western way of life and destroy their common enemies, America and Israel. By reading this book their is no doubt in my mind today’s Democrats/Progressives/Liberals are Communists. The enemy is within the gates…

Think I know why the Russian spy, Mikhail Vasenkov , who was teaching at CUNY and using the alias Juan Lazaro and his Communist Peruvian journalist wife, were so swiftly and quietly escorted back to Mother Russia. Was that an earlier sign of that “ flexibility” Mr. Obama has promised to Mr. Putin…” after the election ?” Hmmmmm…reminds me of those “ hidden school records” and the fact that Obama attended Occidental College, nick-named ” the Moscow of southern California .” Hmmmmm….So many “Hmmmmms” regarding the Obama Administration…
