Interpol Issues Global Arrest Warrant for WikiLeaks’ Founder

Bad news for Wikileaks’ founder Julian Assange.  Interpol, the international police agency, added Assange to its “most wanted” list Tuesday as the activist’s website continued its leak of U.S. diplomatic cables.  But the charges are reportedly not related at all to the information leak.  Rather, the Wikileaks founder is being sought to answer charges of sexual assault in Sweden.

According to CNN, the Stockholm Criminal Court last week issued an international arrest warrant for Assange on probable cause, saying he is suspected of “rape, sexual molestation and illegal use of force.”  Sweden had then asked Interpol to issue a “Red Notice” after a judge ordered he be brought into custody.

PC Magazine has more:

The arrest warrant is actually being issued by the International Public Prosecution Office in Gothenberg, Sweden. Under the “Categories of Offenses” section, Interpol has listed “Sex Crimes”.

Sweden has previously sought to prosecute Assange.

In August, the Swedish courts issued another arrest warrant after indicting Assange of raping two women. However a judge threw out the ruling within the same week due to insufficient evidence. …

On Nov. 18, a district court in Stockholm approved another a request from the alleged victims’ prosecutor, Marianne Ny, to detain Assange in his absence. He was indicted for “rape, sexual molestation and unlawful coercion,” the statement said. “To execute the court’s decision, the next step is to issue an international arrest warrant,” the court added.

Assange’s London counsel, Mark Stephens, has said in a letter that Ny has repeatedly turned down Assange’s attempts to either meet in person or discuss the accusations over the phone.

Stephens added that the rape charges were insubstantial to begin with.

“As various media outlets have reported ‘the basis for the rape charge’ purely seems to constitute a post-facto dispute over consensual, but unprotected sex days after the event,” he wrote. “Both women have declared that they had consensual sexual relations with our client and that they continued to instigate friendly contact well after the alleged incidents. Only after the women became aware of each other’s relationships with Mr. Assange did they make their allegations against him.”

In the midst of all the controversy surrounding the Australian native, Assange has officially been offered no-questions-asked residency in Ecuador

“We are open to giving [Assange] residency in Ecuador, without any problem and without any conditions,” Kintto Lucas, the country’s Deputy Foreign Minister, said in a statement this week. “We are going to try and invite him to Ecuador to freely present, not only via the Internet, but also through different public forums, the information and documentation that he has.”

No one seems to know exactly where Assange is hiding out or whether he’s currently living in a country that would extradite him to Sweden, but many believe Assange may be living in or near London.  The Australian attorney general is reportedly currently considering revoking Assange’s Australian passport.

To identify in any manner those that co-operate with anti-terror within their Iraqi and Afghan communities is to sentence them to beheadings. It is to send the message that working with the alliance in identifying threats is as good as surrendering their family to the enemy. It is a threat to the ‘surge’ and to every troop on the ground who will have to contend with the consequence, which includes all our NATO allies on the ground.

This cannot be unknown to assange and any linkage to Soros, or soros funded group should put soros on the top of the most wanted list (as a self-confessed anti-American insurgent he is long overdue). This close connection to obama should lead to his impeachment along with all the soros ba’czars who orchestrate the anti-American Soros/Obama agenda!

Wow usual liberal/progressive way to shut people up drag them to court wether real or trumped up charges of rape seems very coinciendential. I don’t support or condone rape there is no punishment severe enough for a rapist. but this seems very very fishy and it wouldn’t surprise me once jailed that they find him hanging in jail just saying. these liberal/progressives/socialists do not play and when they play the play for keeps if you know what i mean…..wikileaks were fine when it was to hurt Bush and republicans but not for dems or liberals or socialists….what’s good for the goose is not good for the gander in this case

I admire the action, but I really doubt this’ll stick. The laws of modern, Western democratic society are simply not designed to deal with well-funded, “principled” anarchists masquerading as free-speech and “sunshine” advocates who are unaffiiliated with any single regime or state. If Assante’s smart (and I have no doubt he is, megalomaniacal and wantonly destructive though he may be) he’ll give himself up voluntarily and spend the next five years assembling an army of like-minded thugs culled from the WTO and G20 protest highlight reels. He’ll demand to be heard at The Hague and attempt to usher in a global, youth-led insurrection against ALL authority. Meanwhile Soros and his toadies (including Obamarama) will sit back and watch the tinder spark into conflagration. Then they’ll have their “tipping point”, and the post-national era may just be swept into actuality.

This is the way the world ends. This is the way the world ends. This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang, but a Twitter.

I don’t know… these kinds of forces consume their own. I was home and saw the live breaking news when John Huang was arrested on the plane that landed in the United States. More on the story at noon….

So I sat at the television waiting. The breaking news had nothing to do with John Huang. Instead the breaking story was that the President had an affair with one of his White House interns.

So I would not be surprised if somebody goes down, as the powers that be must protect themselves. There will be loud and obnoxious news, but not this story. Something else will break soon to be louder than this story.

I guarantee China’s not happy with the release of the docs proving they gave uranium to Iran, or that we‘ve been told by high ranking Chinese officials that China’s government wouldn’t be adverse to a reunited Korea, under the South’s regime, not the North’s.

MY GUT says there are thing in it we SHOULD be aware of… I don’t understand anyone on this board NOT being interested in what those facts are.. those are the ones they plan on using/or have used on us..

with apologies to my friends on site….The clipping of assange’s wings is NOT a good thing for us. The administrations’ press has turned a very valuable whistleblower into a first class villain. I believe we can’t get enough truth these days and if the truth hurts…well, that’s the way the cookie crumbles. I also believe that our government has been criminally involved in the worlds’ business for a long time now. Republicans as well as democrats. The unvarnished truth is all we really have that is worth anything. Don’t be deceived. There has always been something wrong with our involvement in the middle east and arabia. We sell weapons to everyone. we support democracies and dictatorships alike….and all for fiscal advantage. Our society is not blameless in the worlds’ troubles. Progressivism has been alive and well in this country for over 100 years. Our elites are the driving force behind the new world order. There are others, to be sure, but if you follow the money, it will lead to home-grown evil-doers.in numbers we probably could not fathom.
I don’t want to believe that any Christian conservative would want to be part of what has been going on behind the curtains in this country.
“The truth will set you free”…Do you believe that? Really believe that?
It is that old“slippery slope” thing again!! Let’s expose it all…let’s publish it! Let the chips fall where they may. The soul of this nation is at stake. Get back to God and HIS will. Not politics. Liberate yourself from the SINS of our leaders and our government. Delve into every nook and cranny. Turn every stone. Question with boldness. Do not fear to look ANYONE right in the eye and GET THE TRUTH.

Before he gets arrested, (if he gets arrested) I‘m hoping he’ll get the chance to release the info on the wallstreet banks he’s planning to release. I’m sure a lot of us Americans would like to know what these bankers are up to, especially since we gave them so many billions of our dollars and they are a great cause for our current situation.

Makes one wonder what we are not intended to know. I know this is way out there with major conspiracy theories; but, what financial information from Wall Street would most upset the White House if revealed to the American public.

I am with many of you on this board- it is way too coincidental that this guy be brought up on charges of sex crimes only hours after he announces he will release a major leak regarding Wall Street.

@SILENTWATCHER That’s great. Let‘s black bag anyone we can’t control or steps over the line.

HAVE WE TURNED INTO A TOTALITARIAN REGIME?! WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO US AMERICA?!?!?!

And you all cheer for this, give the Fed this power. Don’t worry, they’ll be coming after YOU one day. By then, there won’t be anyone left to speak out against your detention and execution though because you allowed them all to be executed prior!

You are all unbelievable. This whole incident makes me ashamed that I sacrificed my life, my family, my principles for YOU people.

Did anyone hear what Robert Gibbs said about this on Fox News this morning? He said we should not be afraid of one guy with a laptop and a website.

Maybe that it why Holder is out messing arround with soccer instead of worrying about a guy with a laptop.

I’m not particularly fond of coming to his defense, however it must be noted that these “sexual assault” charges appeared exactly the day after he released the first barrage of leaks against the U.S., and were dismissed shortly thereafter. He kept up with the leaks and suddenly Sweden is turning coat and saying “gosh, let’s reopen them”.

This is a game folks. Like him or don’t like him, he’s being set up to be shut up. When you get so many big player progressive and one worlder types after you like this, you have to be doing something right.

Julian Assange is in Iceland. They unlike us have balls. An example being guys like Beck saying we should pay The Banksters illegitimate fiat Debt back to them or they’ll implode the economy. Instead of saying we should arrest them for their Derivatives Ponzi Scheme.

      @leftfighter

      Oh please, drama much guy?

He doesn’t have blood on his hands. He released no specific life endangering information. Not one iota. You’re being led by the nose and repeating words told to you by, well, Hillary Clinton and many Obama cut outs. Additionally, even if he did (and he didn’t), the people killing are the ones with the guns and knives. Freedom of speech and information is just that, and it is just as absolute as our right to bear arms.

Fact is, we haven’t been legally at war since 1945. What we’re doing now in Afghanistan, and Iran, is unconstitutional. Light needs to be shined on all of this crap, and lots of it. I strongly urge you, and others here, to consider walking outside of the National Security State programming you’ve been raised with your entire life, and move closer to the original Constitutional Republic thinking most of us were never taught.

I believe this is a wich hunt toward the publisher unless someone can tell me what law was broken. Offending Obama or other politicians is not against the law. The only thing that keeps us away from a dictatorship is a free press.

The boy that stole the documents is the perpetrator and needs to punished to the max. I would get him the death penalty if I could. That would put a stop to this madness.

Oilman I thought the Military guy gave them all the info ?
Am I wrong ? If WIKI did the hack , then I agree that is a crime.
But just reporting what info you are given is not.
Hence if you hacked me and gave the news paper my info
say I was out drinking with a Monsato executive .
Do you think the news paper that prints it would get in trouble
How many stories have you seen ( the Jon Benet Ramsey case)
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Benet_Ramsey
      THE RAMSEY’S were INNOCENT !
Every News paper and TV editor that reported they were guilty should
be hunted down like a dog and shot
. Right ?and maybe they should be.
      but you see my point.
