‘Iowa Nice’: Filmmakers Release Bold Video With Some Surprising Facts

It’s Iowa Day.
Most of the political focus in America is on Iowa as that state’s caucuses will happen tonight, kicking off the 2012 Election season. But what do we know about the state?
For all hours of media time spent on covering Iowa’s caucuses, how much do we know about the state and the three million people who call it home?
When you hear “Iowa” do you automatically think, farming? Or are you like MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell and think Iowa is “too white, too evangelical, too rural… .”
You might be surprised to know that the largest source for personal income for Iowans is manufacturing. The state does have a healthy farming community, but it also has more golf courses per capita than any other state.
Some folks in the Hawkeye State have taken exception to how the rest of the country perceives them. Paul Benedict, Scott Siepker and a group of young filmmakers have just released a short YouTube clip to explain the real facts about Iowa.

I grew up in Iowa (then left as soon as i graduated from HS) and the farmers where told by the government, what they can plant, how much they can plant, and what they will get paid for the crops. They receive billions in subsidies (tax payer dollars) so the cost of food and gas will stay low for the rest of America. The farmers have no control over whta the government does with the crops after they harvest.

Food grade crops are raised by contract only, for a premium, because of the special handling envolved. If it weren’t for grain based fuel in this country, under the current policies, fuel prices would be even higher. This would make groceries even more expensive, as most of the cost involved is transporting them is the fuel required to get them to the store. Your welcome!

Posted on January 4, 2012 at 1:06amWe don’t receive as many subsidies as we used to due to prices going up. However, 15 years ago an acre of corn could be planted for $120. Today that same acre which produces about 40 to 50 more bushels of corn costs almost $400 to plant. Instead of subsidies it now has more to do with conservation programs.

Report Post »I live next to Iowa good people in the western and southern parts. Liberals in the cities and east. The vidoe explains it when they say the have elected the last five times democrats. The east part of the state is populated heavier.

There are lots of fine people in CA, OR, WA, PA, CO, etc. but unfortunately in the small geographical areas that are dominated by left wingers, they represent the big populations of those states, which means they can screw over the smaller populated areas all they want.

Part of the problem is you don’t see career conservative activists like you do lib-tards. You only hear from the likes of this gas bag. Or the actions of our former Gov NutSack (Vilsak) now the Secretary of Department of Agriculture. His great act of signing a bill (on the 4th of July) that allowed felons the right to vote. BTW, there was already a process in place if a felon wanted to restore their right to vote.
Iowa City is a breeding ground for this type of crap. This guy is just a lib trying to get Iowa labeled as a lib state. Focusing on the intellectual aspect of Iowa (which is great), but he did fail to mention Rockwell Collins (aviation science and communications) who‘s hardware and software keeps most of today’s military aircraft from dropping out of the sky. But as a lib he probably didn’t want to draw attention to our impact on military assets. He also neglected the fact that when they legalized gay marriage we voted the judges out who were responsible.
The guy is a douche plain and simple.

Heard that last night on Bill O’s program, and I agree with Bill, Paul will lose to Obama by a large margin if he is the nominee! By the way, his ideas of Statism, pulling inward and isolating America might sound intriguing, but that is exactly what Hitler promised the Germans at the very beginning, we all know how that turned out.

Posted on January 3, 2012 at 9:51amHold your nose while driving through Cedar Rapids and Clinton, too. Don’t know what those plants are, but they do put out an odor once in a while. That being said, I grew up in California, but I genuinely enjoy watching the seasons change watching the cornfields. Iowa has four seasons (five if you live in Cedar Rapids, but I haven’t figured out what they fifth season is supposed to be) and they are beautiful. California is so dull compared to it.
