iPhone 4S Finally Gets Consumer Reports Recommendation, But Doesn’t Beat Android

Even though Apple products — and users — may throw around an air of superiority, the iPhone 4 never received the Consumer Reports seal of approval due to a “death grip” problem associated with the antenna. But this problem has since been fixed with the iPhone 4S, allowing the product to make it onto the coveted list.
The Huffington Post reports that the iPhone 4 was initially on the list but was “unrecommended” when the antenna issue that caused a low signal and poor call quality came to light. The iPhone 4 still exhibits this flaw and remains unrecommended.
According to the Consumer Reports press release, the iPhone 4S underwent the same tests as iPhone 4 and “the newer phone did not display the same reception flaw, which involves a loss of signal strength when you touch a spot on the phone’s lower left side while you’re in an area with a weak signal.”
Consumer Reports notes many of iPhones positive attributes, but states that even still, they aren’t enough to help it outscore Android phones, such as the Samsung Galaxy S II phones and the Motorola Droid Bionic.

Posted on November 14, 2011 at 2:40amWhat I like about my Iphone 4S is that, well it works! I can not think of a single friend that has had a droid that has not had issues with it. And most usually go to the Iphone and don’t look back.

Posted on November 9, 2011 at 8:20pmMy take on this is that if you like flexibility and the ability to customize most aspects of the phone, Android is a good choice. If you put a higher value on refinement and ease of use, then the Apple iPhone might be a better choice.
While I see the benefits of both, i own an iPhone 4s (and an iPad 2) because Android can‘t yet match iPhone’s refinement and battery life. New Android phones seem to come out every week, yet they all (to me) seem designed more to compete in “spec wars” than to create a well thought out seamless user experience. Android is a little like a tricked-out hot rod while iPhone is more like a Ferrari. The hot rod might have more horsepower or sound louder when it’s revved, but it ain’t no Ferrari.
My friends who own Android phones are constantly swapping them out for new models, usually because of something (bulk, weight, poor battery life, etc.) they dislike about their previous phone. One of them was really proud of his 4G Droid until he realized that 4G killed his battery life and he consequently had to keep it in 3G mode all the time. By contrast, my 3G iPhone 4s has excellent battery life and is fast enough for now. Once 4G chipsets come along that offer battery life comparable to 3G, Apple will incorporate the feature. That’s the smart way to progress.
After all, what good does it do to have the fastest phone on the planet if it is dead in half a day?

Posted on November 9, 2011 at 11:52amIt’s time for me to upgrade. I bought the original droid when it came out two years ago on a two year contract. I bought it when it FIRST CAME OUT and it wasn’t even supported with updates for the length of a single contract initiated on the day the phone launched. I was waiting for the Bionic to go on sale and then I saw the ad for the new Droid Razor and I realized that I was gonna get the same treatment unless I buy an iphone which Apple supports for more than a year. Screw you motorola.
