Iran and Al Qaeda Teaming Up for Attack on West?

Osama bin Laden may be dead, but Al Qaeda isn’t resting in peace. Intelligence reports suggest that Ayman al-Zawahiri, al Qaeda’s most visible leader, is working with Iran to plan an attack on the West. The New York Post has the details on the plot:

Intelligence sources said Iran has been supplying al Qaeda with training in the use of advanced explosives, “some funding and a safe haven” as part of a deal first worked out in 2009 which has now led to “operational capacity.”[...]

Zawahiri is believed to be planning a “classic” al Qaeda attack, simultaneously on multiple locations, which would confirm the mantle he has assumed as the leader of the global jihad.

A source said, “Iran is the main route through which funding for the organizations is made, the main route for operatives to travel to Pakistan for training, and it is the only real way by which al Zawahiri can control and order a major attack.”

Al Qaeda’s main contact in Iran is a Syrian named Yasin al Suri, who the United States has offered a $10 million reward for if captured. This price ranks him just beneath Zawahiri in the pantheon of threats to the United States.

Al-Suri’s Syrian origins also could make him a serious threat to United States interests, given the turmoil-ridden current environment in Syria. Zawahiri himself recently taped a message to Syrian Islamists in which he derided Bashar al-Assad’s embattled government as a “sectarian, secular regime.”

“The brave, jihadi Syrian people rose and will never accept anything less than victory over the criminal butchers,” al-Zawahiri said.

      I 100% agree with End on this one. Iranians and Al-Queda have two different philosophies. The only commonality is dislike of the West but I doubt that dislike is enough to harbor and fund terrorists in Iran. This “blanket approach” that we need to see all Arab speaking people as one in the same lot is ignorant and offensive.

      Clinton ignored Bin Laden. He made the transition in December hell for Bush. until late December there was no transition. The Democrats said all bushes political appointees were DOA. Yes things get off to a good start when the 1st 6 or 7 months of a presidency are spent trying to get a team in place. Can’t really keep your eye in the ball.

      What happened under Clinton. Trade Center Bombing., Cole Bombing & Twin embassy bombings. The latter 2 were Al Qaeda & Clinton did what exactly?

      President Clinton‘s administration set up President Bush’s for failure, but President Bush had NO experts on the region, mostly just those who dealt with the mujahideen (TALIBAN precursors, few and far between could/would join AQ) against the commies. They viewed Pakistan as an ally which turned out so well. And Lumbar Spine, no President, ESPECIALLY not one with as little experience as our current one, could organize, mobilize and fund operations in a MONTH to catch this guy. Regardless, our current President will conduct himself as he has for the last few foreign policy situations. With speed, efficiency and gusto. Please figure out the sarcasm there before you respond.

      WRONG Sir: IMHO: Many believe that WE are Al Qaeda. Many believe that We started Al Qaeda in Afghanistan to fight the Russians, Al Qaeda members visited the pentagon, WE assisted the ‘Underwear Bomber’ into the country, there is no doubt that we supported Al Qaeda against the Libyan Government in their revolution, Many believe that Al Qaeda forces at the behest on NATO are behind the Syrian Revolt and Al Qaeda is not WITH Iran, they are performing insurgent activities in Iran at the behest of the U.S. Remember, Al Qaeda is basically a Sunni branch of Wahabi sect whereas Iran is Sheite, a deadly enemy of the Sunni(you need look no further then them slaughtering each other in Bagdad). If there is an attack by Al Qaeda OR “Iran”(false flag) then it is only to spur us to was against Iran and/or to justify further erosion of our freedoms and liberties.

      We supported the Afghans (and other violence-thirsty young men from Arab countries, who were typically laughed at by the Afghans) because they were against the Russians. It was spun as assistance to freedom fighters. It isn‘t that hard to convince people to support ’fellow Muslims,’ regardless of their sect. Iraq and what is the Persian and Afghan portion are totally different areas. It would be like saying Russians and Fins are the same because they are next to each other. Totally different people.

      As much as I hate the idea of war and killing etc., I reluctantly have to agree with you on this one. Al Qaeda is still a threat. Ayman al-Zawahiri is now the poster boy for terrorism (and maybe Clearasil) and he needs to be silenced. The best way to kill a snake is to cut off it’s head. I’m not at all in favor of sending Troops and equipment to foreign countries to fight and die. The idea of specially trained Navy Seals is the way to go. Find these creeps, get in there, do the job and get out. Shoot and Scoot. We have to show these evil bastards that they can not hide from us. We can not let up on them. Ever.       It was communism before this. It has nothing to do with religion and ideology and EVERYTHING to do with someone who would FORCE that ideology on someone else. We may not have handled Iraq and Afghanistan well, but that is the President we elected and the people he put in place. This President has done the same in different ways. Why we seem to worry too much about things besides foreign policy is beyond me. It should be beside economics as the most important pillars of an administrations strengths.       Correct. It’s a war against Islam. Because Islam was/is in war with everything else since its inception. It’s not a war against muslims, per se. The war can be fought by different means and if lives are saved, and these means bring the desired result I am all for it.

      But if we stand by, from reasons of cowardice, willful blindness or based on imports into christianinty that someone my have convinced us they belong there (hinduism–karma, buddhism–absolute non-violence) , we’ll allow darkness to take a hold for untold centuries, assigning our children and grandchildren into life of slavery.

      Allow me to remind you that President Obama is the Commander in Chief. These operations do not occur without his direct order. Within a month after Obama took office he mobilized, reorganized and funded our intelligence efforts to get Osama Bin Laden…and it worked. But I‘ll bet you didn’t hear that on FOX News. Give credit where credit is due…

      Allow me to remind you that Obama (commander in chief) has authorized the killing of several Americans including a 16 year old boy who were never charged with any crime. Congratulations!       @Lumbar You are obviously ignorant of the process if you think one man could catch THAT man on his own gumption. We tried to find him since the LAST administration wouldn’t devote themselves to killing him around Tora Bora. What changes and funding or organizational changes did he make? You seem to have the inside track, please enlighten us. Don‘t give credit where credit ISN’T due either.

      No, the military and intelligence agency operatives were chasing him in the winter after 9/11, but someone, somewhere in the chain told them to back off and wouldn’t commit the troops to seal the Pakistani border. More than likely someone on President Bush‘s staff didn’t want to upset Pakistan and told the generals they couldn’t do it. President Clinton had him at Tarnak Farm and other places. Missile strikes causing civilian casualties and Monica distracted him.
